My flight left SJ at 6am the next morning so I didn't feel like getting a hotel was worth it. I actually considered just hanging out in a bar until 2 am and then going to the airport but decided it was probably a better...More
Frightening! Horrendous experience. Staff member pulled a taser and a fake gun on me and my girlfriend after we used the toilet but decided not to stay there based on his attitude. He threatened us with the taster, took money from us and chased us...More

There's a bus that goes to San Jose downtown. It's safe and easy. It goes from the International airport to downtown in around 30 min (but depends on the traffic). The bus station, the last stop, is a few blocks walking from the hostel. I did during the day and took me no more than 20 min. The only point is that these blocks on downtown is quite busy during the day but may seem a bit dodgy at night. If so just take a cab from the bus station to the hostel.
