Fantastic hotel with good location. Staff were super friendly and helpful with changing our dates when our flight was delayed. Rooms clean and comfy with a good shower.

Breakfast was fantastic - the best papaya we have ever had!

Thanks for a great trip.

Can’t recommend Casa 69 enough. Don't be put off by the outside appearance of Casa 69 because once you step through the gate you enter a spacious and cooling interior with plants, a fountain and colorful artwork. Our online reservation was easy to make and Angel was quick to respond to any questions that we had..we received nothing but polite, friendly, and efficient service. Reception service was excellent along with the magnificent breakfast arrangement. Fresh fruit, juice, eggs and bread all inclusive though you could order more if you wanted. Our room was on second floor with easy access to views on the roof. The bed was very comfortable which is important to me!
I noticed someone complained about lack of local restaurants. I don't understand this- Angel pointed us to the ‘gastronomic’ area which was just a very short walk from the Casa. Wonderful choice of places to eat and drink. The location was also an easy walk into the downtown area to see museums and markets. San Jose is noisy and bustling so being slightly away from this made it a more restful ,place to stay.
You can park your car on the street or squeeze your vehicle into one of their parking spots that may be available. Most of the whole place is smoke-free, except for the balcony areas outside rooms. I am sure this is to accommodate smokers. As a nonsmoker i would prefer it to be 100% smoke free.
Thanks to everyone there for a wonderful experience. I would certainly opt to stay here again. .

This is a charming B&B about 20 minutes east of the airport. Don't be deceived by outside, inside it is an oasis of visual delight. From the courtyard full of plants and koi, to the beautiful artwork on the walls. We stayed on the top floor, and the view from the rooftop patio of San Jose at night was gorgeous. There was no air conditioning in our room but the breezes coming through the patio doors was delightful. The hosts are very welcoming and friendly. The breakfast, which was included with the stay, was fresh and presented with professional arrangement.

We are early risers, so before breakfast we walked the busy streets, this is truly in the city, and we found a little bakery with coffee. We got a few meat pastries to have later in the day.

The best hotel in San Jose. The indoor garden and koi pond are a delight to sit by during their incredible complimentary breakfast of poached eggs, fruit, fresh made toast, and jam. Other items also available they will cook up for you individually for a small fee. The darling dog Violetta calmly keeps watch over the lobby and is delighted to take pets from passerbys (but is even more delighted when you bring home your leftovers). See that? I just used the word home, because it felt like home. We were stranded for 5 extra days in San Jose after the DHL plane crashed in the one tarmac available at the airport. The owner of Casa 69 took great care of us as we sorted out what we wanted to do, allowing us early check in, and easing our anxieties. He is a brilliant and delightful man, who is well traveled and probably speaks more languages than I can count, I am just guessing! Haha. The rooms were impeccable spotless and fresh, with king sized beds, large mirrors, and excellent bathrooms. The staff were so attentive and kind. There is even a great rooftop to hang out on, and little balconies outside the rooms along the way up. I would probably not only enjoy staying here but working here as well. Thank you for saving us Casa 69! We appreciate you so much and would come back in a heartbeat.

Casa 69 is more than a hotel, it is an experience. The owner’s love of art is evident on each and every wall through the common areas to the rooms. The rooms are well-appointed and comfortable. The interior common spaces of the hotel have obviously received a great deal of thought. there are a couple of chairs and a cafe table outside most rooms for a read, cup of tea or glass of wine. Also there is a rooftop ares providing wonderful views of San Jose.

The owner and staff are fantastic individuals and are always keen to share a jest or provide local advice. The included breakfast was wonderful and featured some of the best fresh bread I’ve ever tasted. It lured us down from two floors above each morning. The hotel is located half a block off the eastern end of Avenue 0 and provided an absolutely ideal base for visiting most of the things in San Jose that a person would like to see. A must stay in San Jose as far as we are concerned.

My son and I stayed here 2 nights Our plane was delayed 2 hours so we arrived just before 10 pm. I was a little concerned at first as there was no place to park and the very narrow street was full of people from the nearby pub and we were so late. However, Cindy was very kind and gracious and we were quickly checked in. I was very impressed with the security and never worried about our safety while we were there. Our room was clean and comfortable with a semi-private patio. Wi-fi worked well. We had a lovely breakfast the next morning, prepared by our host Angel. (Continental breakfast is included, full breakfast is an additional very reasonable charge.) The freshly baked bread rolls with guava (guayaba) and pineapple jams were delicious! Angel makes a traditional Costa Rican breakfast or there are American style omelettes, scrambled or fried eggs, or pancakes. He and Cindy also directed us to the local museums, parks, etc., all within walking distance, and recommended an excellent restaurant for dinner, La Esquina de Buenos Aires. The food there was excellent and great service! Make a reservation though as they are very popular.

We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others. Don't be put off by the surroundings as this hotel is a gem!

Kurt, Angel and the team (including Violetta the dog 😊) are exceptionally friendly and genuinely want to ensure that their guests have the best possible stay. The location is great - an easy walk from the museums/sights downtown and the local restaurant district and my room was very comfortable and super clean. I also appreciated the black-out curtains as I was a bit jet-lagged when I arrived. Yummy breakfast in a peaceful garden.

We loved this place. We were taking classes in Heredia but wanted to stay in San Jose and this ended up being a great fit for us. We stayed for 9 nights and were very impressed with the staff, the service, the nice big room, and the location. The location itself can seem a bit odd at first, but it's short walk to Barrio Escalante which features many good and affordable restaurants. The people who work at Casa 69 are kind and helpful and very pleasant to be around. A few notes: As a rule, San Jose is very loud, and you will likely near earplugs anywhere you stay. Take advantage of the $30 airport pick-up as it's got to be cheaper and safer than using a random taxi. If you want to do laundry, ask if they can fit it in and I think they charge $15 for a load. If you are kind of a jerk who likes to find fault with everything around you I would not recommend Casa 69.

This little hotel is filled with art, beautiful light, textures and gorgeous music. Our room was elegant and so very comfortable! The staff are warm, friendly and knowledgeable. Angel is a terrific host whose English is excellent. Breakfasts there were delicious. We walked easily to the city center, to parks, art, museums and markets. Good restaurants are very close to the hotel and to our surprise, a fantastic Irish pub is just around the corner. We will certainly return there on future trips through San José!

We spent 2 nights at this sweet boutique hotel that is so different from any other hotel. The rooms are spacious and clean and the hotel feels like a little jungle lodge when you get inside. A gentle dog greets you in the lobby that feels like you’ve been invited into someone’s living room. The breakfast includes fresh fruit, eggs, coffee/tea and fresh bread right out of the oven. The staff is friendly and helpful. We were a little nervous parking our rental on the street so opted for the $10/nt private parking.

Hola! Casa 69 is located in San José, i.e. not close to any beach. Will take you at least 1,5 hours, if you don't get stuck in the city. Personally, San José offers activities for one day but not more, rather boring town. Two or three nice museums and a shopping area downtown, that's pretty much it. Why don't you stay by the sea directly? Guanacaste or Tortuguera? Saludos!
