Next time you will have to try the Moose Caboose pullman rail car conversion if you value preservation.

How far to town and is is walkable?
To town is about a 5 min drive or less. But I think you want to go to the Homer Spit, that's about a 10min drive. I wouldn't walk it. Mapquest it and see.
