Apparently the majority of people who go are very happy with everything. I was in Sitka last year (!st visit to Alaska) and want to try something different this year. The 4 of us are going and looking forward to catching some fish, relaxing, eating good and just having a great time with my son. We have a cabin booked for the week of the 18th. How long is the drive from Anchorage? We will be in no rush as we plan on stopping and hopefully seeing some good views and some wildlife. I received an answer already and that response was very helpful, so thank you.

I am heading to Crooked Creek in mid-July 2015 with my son (29 year old) and a friend with his son. We have booked 2 salmon trips and a halibut trip. Wanting to see some bears, moose and other wild life. We are driving from Anchorage to the lodge. Any suggestions on gear to bring, or just use the lodges? On days that were are not being guided, can you with-in reasonable driving distance fish on your own? Looking for kings and sockeye as I was told mid July was prime season for both as well as a good time for halibut. Most of all we are looking to relax and have a great time. Any suggestions as to what to bring clothing wise for July? Appreciate any and all responses. Thank you in advance.
