We had the privilege of spending 5 days with the Randall family on Afognak Island in late June of 2016. Shannon, Josh and Luke Randall own and operate Afognak Wilderness Lodge (AWL). Everything about there operation is 5 star. Their facility, the fishing and sightseeing, the guides, the food and last but certainly not least their hospitality is second to... More

My husband and I planned a 12-day Alaskan Adventure for ourselves and our two teen-age granddaughters. We stayed two nights at Afognak Wilderness Lodge, and the only negative is that we wish we had planned a longer stay! The girls voted overwhelming that AWL was the best part of our entire trip. Luke made our time on Afognak magical. He... More

We came here photogprahjng Kodiak bears but end up seeing none (early July) except a small female with her cub in a distance. Instead we trekked around the wilderness, did some not so serious fishing (compared to others with loads of catch). The hospitality and services provided by Shannon and her family (the Randall) more than compensated for the lack of... Comfortable lodge, great food, fishing was spectacular--we spent 4 days and shipped home 150 lbs of fish filets! The lodge setting is simply beautiful--remote, yet all the comforts of home (including wifi). Outstanding staff and guides--we had Jordan as our guide and he was great. Perfect lodge for our family (2 adults and 12 year old twins). Bear and whale... More

My daughter and I just finished our 4 night stay and we could not be happier. So much to do including: fishing, otter, seal and eagle watching, hikes to view the bears, and time at the archery range and skeet shooting. All were truly enjoyable but it was the people there that really made the difference. Luke, our guide who... More

Tipping is not mandatory, but is a gift. If asked what the normal gratuity is, the American standard has been 10% for decades. If not otherwise specifically directed, the guides always received the bulk of any tips. More

Our party of 9 arrived on a Friday evening just in time to enjoy one of Brian's perfectly prepared meals, the selection and taste was second to none! The next morning, after another hearty meal prepared by Brian, we headed out on the boats with Luke and Garret. We have been to several establishments who were more than happy to... More

It is very hard for me not to give Afognak Wilderness Lodge five stars. However, certain events and issues can't be ignored, hence the four star rating. Let me explain, starting with the good. My husband, daughter and I spent four magical days at Afognak Wilderness Lodge, and I must admit it is one of the most enchanting destinations to... More

After a slow start in the competition against my two friends who already had several large ling cod and halibut in the boat, I finally hooked the big one! My first halibut, weighing in at a modest 100 pounds and with a fight that you can't imagine, you must experience it! After a twenty minute tug of war with this... More

I have had the good fortune of being able to visit Alaska many times due to the fact that my brother lives on the Kenai river. Needless to say I have enjoyed many great memories with my family and friends fishing the Kenai. This year two of my friends and I decided spend a couple days on the Kenai then... More

We sat in the living room in the morning and evening looking out on the water inhaling the majesty, beauty and serenity of the landscape. There is a double swing located the garden outside the room in which we sat, listened and meditated.”
