Stayed at The Grosvenor for one night in a Superior Room. The old building certainly is striking, with lovely architecture and loads of history, including the distinction of having once been accommodation for HRH Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip during a visit to New Zealand. The lobby and hallways have been updated with colourful, geometric designs; some walls have...

what a lovely old building externally-lots of character. After a very friendly and quick check in we used the lift-a taste of bygone days which is i think partly what this hotel is about. The corridors are quirky decorated but the room was lovely-very mute colours, comfy bed with crisp sheets, lovely bathroom with fluffy white towels. This hotel is very handy for the shops...

Greetings malcTorbay Thank you for taking the time to write a positive review on The Grosvenor. We appreciate your kind words. That meant the world to us. I recently booked in to The Grosvenor for two nights. I was very happy. It is a great old hotel and a landmark in Timaru. The rooms are clean. Bathroom was immaculate. I was there for two relatively cold evenings and the room was heated well. This hotel provides true value for money as it is not an expensive place...

Greetings Sideshow Bob Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We appreciate your positivity. It is refreshing to get compliments for things that we do well and not merely hearing complaints for things that we could have done better. We send you positive vibe. Stay safe. Booked on line and all looked satisfactory until we were given our room. Rooms, corridors etc old, dated and had that stale smell. Absolutely nothing like the pictures in the web site. Another couple walked out just prior to us as well.Very disappointing and totally false advertising.

Greetings jollyr57 How are we supposed to have false advertising in New Zealand? The Law is there to protect consumers. All photos on Booking.com were taken by its own manager. Photos on Tripadvisor were posted by guests. We have Suites, Superior Rooms and Standard Rooms. If you were to book Standard room and expecting the world, naturally you will be...

Located in the center of Timaru, this hotel surprises with a colorful decor, which in our case culminated in a pop-art like painting of a cigar-smoking goose that loomed above the double bed, and a blue disco-light stripe along the panorama window onto the parking lot. The above said, the bed was very comfortable (and in the end that is...

Greetings martinrummel Thank you for taking the time to write a review on our King Suite 215. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. There are a lot of cafes within walking distance away from The Grosvenor. While we provide coffee, it's not our bread and butter. We can't be good in all things, yes? We send...

We stopped in for a quick lunch on our way through Timaru. The staff were very friendly and gave advice on things to do in town. We had fish for lunch (both battered and grilled) which were both cooked beautifully.

An older hotel with a certain charm and quaintness about it. The room was large, the shower was fine, and the staff was very friendly. The hotel could be great with some refurbishing. For now it looks alittle run down. The location is excellent, with many nearby restaurants and things to see.

Greetings Kennsplace Thank you for taking the time to write a review spelling out the features of The Grosvenor. We have been continuously improving our facilities here at the hotel. The challenge is to have the least disruption to the guests while we run a hotel that's at full capacity on a daily basis. Safe travels. Faithfully Ping LIM The...

Stayed here for one night and while we loved the location and the spacious room - we couldn't help but notice the room really needed a makeover/upgrade. The staff were exceptional though so with a bit of a renovation this would quickly go from three to five star!

Greetings CSchmidtke Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Our refurbishment program has been ongoing for the past twelve years and it's still continuing to these days. You might have noticed how busy the Grosvenor is, and the challenge is to renovate the hotel room whilst the place is full to the brim most of the time....

Our room had been recently refreshed but there was a large gap under the door. We had a good meal in the restaurant with very friendly staff. Greetings Freddiemon Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us. Yes, certain rooms have large gaps under the doors. Afterall, the hotel was built in the 19th century and there wasn't a concrete floor then. Being timber floor, this is an unavoidable part of life. We plead for your understanding. We appreciate you raising two points...

Unfortunately we stayed at this hotel for 3 nights on a trip around New Zealand. We knew it was a 3 star hotel so didn’t expect The Ritz but this hotel is worse than some no star budget hotels we have stayed in. We were originally given room 203. When we got to the room we discovered that the small...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Grosvenor has a penchant for authentic and unique design. Although we have been called a boutique hotel and a hip hotel, we're not sure what that really means. We're a little modern, and a little bohemian. Featuring an on-site restaurant and bar, The Grosvenor Hotel Timaru offers boutique & funky accommodation. Our accommodation offers feature art by local and international artists, throughout the hotel. You might stay that The Grosvenor is Timaru's Home of Modern Art (HoMA). With 44 rooms which are eco-friendly, sustainable and have green elements, like vintage furniture, low-VOC paints and recycled materials throughout. All accommodation has an ensuite with hairdryer, ironing board & iron, tea & coffee making facilities, complimentary unlimited Wi-Fi and TV. Fridges are available on request. Guests can enjoy dining in our fantastic restaurant which is now a Timaru institution, TGB (The Grosvenor Bar) is located in a one of a kind historical building with dramatic high ceilings, nostalgic exposed brick and modern touches. Whet your appetite with local, regional and international beers and cider. Then enjoy innovative tavern fare including traditional roasts, urban burgers, fresh salads, wrap, artisanal sandwiches and many other Kiwi favorites. ... more   less
