We first got a flat for 5 persons, wich was not that great. It was located close to the street, so there was a lot of sound and the interior wasn't that clean too. But in the evening we could switch to 3 rooms for 2 persons each and these were much better. It was much cleaner, much more peaceful.... More

Enjoyed the 'motel' style room that lead onto the garden. Was a chilly night but I was warm as toast with the oil heater on and a hot cup of tea. Staff luckily checked on me in the morning when I overslept and nearly missed a delicious breakfast. Lovely old world style & friendly staff. Secure parking a bonus. Only... More

Booked in for two nights - we thought we would be visiting a quaint, historic town with much to see. After an excursion into town, and inspecting the rooms, we're out of here ASAP. The place is shamefully dilapidated, run down and not a place to visit - anymore. I'm heartbroken by the decay, the filth, and the general lack... More

We were booked into the out back newer add on to the old hotel. While the room was quiet it could use a good tidy up. Nothing special just a convenient place to stay a few blocks from the town center and the university. The plus would be the restaurant located in the hotel. The food was excellent. Maybe some... It actually pains me to write this review where the outcome of the chronic neglect the owner clearly has exhibited may adversely affect the employees in a country where unemployment and poverty are rife. Nonetheless, dear traveler, this place is to be avoided at all costs. Yes, Grahamstown has few options, but there are better than this. Our two days... More

We spent a warm, comfortable night at The Cock House, despite the chilly weather and load - shedding! The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. It was a treat to be surrounded by the history of the place, the lovely art in the dining room and the antique pieces. The bar is a cosy space for a drink or two... More

This was our tenth visit in six years to The Cock House. The reason we keep going back is because we get great service, pleasant, helpful staff and a consistency. Add to that, a great kitchen that delivers superb food. Its a winner!!

This is a very old and historical hotel...from the outside it really does not look like much and area make one a bit nervous. But once our car was parked in very secure lock up area, we discovered a very pleasant bar man on duty that was so helpful! The room was very spacious and clean but must say old... More
