The place is ok, but the dorms too exploited… too many beds. Breakfast is bad, only bread and margarine The place is far from everything The owner accepts not only backpackers but also local preachers starting making noise at 5 am There are better places in joburg!

The lodge is very cozy and made for a great couple nights as we arrived in Jo-Burg. My buddy and I felt very safe here. We were even able to leave our surfboard bag outside with no fear of theft and no issue at all. Patrick spent time with us talking through our travel plans. He was very helpful and...

I stayed here two nights, once before my tour with Selous, and once during the 11-day tour (in between Kruger Park and our trip up to Victorica Falls). There is no security here. The front gate is never locked. We went on a tour of Soweto while there and we were returned by our guide after dark. Our guide locked...

Met at the airport by friendly man who offers transport to hostel guests for reasonable charge. Hostel itself very clean, electric blankets on beds in winter (which you will be very grateful for!) free tea and coffee, wifi small charge. Lovely bar with sport showing on the big screen and cheap drinks. Patrick keen to offer advice to his guests,...

This was where we stayed for our first night and Patrick helped us out with all our needs. The rooms and bathrooms are basic but the electric blanket on the cold South African nights were much appreciated. Great location for the airport as well. A good place to find your feet but renting a car is essential if you're staying...

The place is lovely, nice communal area with loads of movies to watch. Fully stocked kitchen to use for cooking and complimentary tea, coffee and toast in the morning. Electric blankets keep you warm at night. Clean, hot showers and a beautiful big backyard. The owner of this place, Patrick, and his brother, Matthew, made our stay so enjoyable! We...

Stayed in September 2013 with my girlfriend, and despite having traveled for over 5 months around the world, I have not yet felt compelled to write a review of a lodging until now. Why Mbizi is the top-rated hostel in Johannesburg (on TripAdvisor and Hostelworld) either speaks to systemic, massive grade inflation on the part of the typical reviewer or...
