My husband and I have absolutely loved our stay here. The vibe, setting, decor - and kitty cats - all combined to make this the perfect place to relax... Not to mention the hearty home cooked breakfast and blissful bath tub! The recently renovated Fossil Suite has met all of our needs for luxury and comfort. Thanks guys, we've had... More

Stayed in the aloe room, which was well appointed, comfortable and clean. Management/staff presence was pretty low key, but always helpful upon request. Breakfast was nothing special, but great that they have a fancy coffee machine that makes espressos, cappuccinos, etc., which are available all day.

Delightful visit to a hidden gem in the city. Located well within reach of most amenities of Melville (7th avenue, the heart of the modern day contemporary culture of Johannesburg) I will definitely pay Sleepy Gecko another visit

In July 2016 I booked in with almost 20 teenagers for 4 nights and we were treated to an amazing time at The Sleepy Gecko! It is located ideally in Melville, a vibrant suburb with lots to do. For me, it was convenient because it was close to any amenities I could need, as well as both UJ and Wits.... More

Sleepy Gecko Guest House turned out to be poorly maintained and a disappointment. ? the 4 star rating We paid full fee deposits for bookings in March 2016. On arrival we were informed that the automatic sliding gate for the vehicle entrance was not working as a result of previous heavy rains and was pending repair. In the meantime we... More

Hi, Thanks for your response. Over the last decade of operating we have noted that a revamp has been due. We have commenced this since March 2016 and are thankful for the many comments regarding the state of the guest house. We have been incrementally revamping the interior and exterior of the main guest house. We learnt the lesson that... More

Host very good, marvellous tasty breakfast. Fair price value for money if you are on a tight budget. The only let down is the loitering by some homeless people in the surrounding- although seemed harmless but make the guest feel insecure

Thanks very much for your feedback. It is completely safe in the area, unfortunately cars are every evening found alongside the roads of Melville. We have car guards who watch these vehicles. I am sorry for the inconvenience. Kind regards Greg More

I loved the comfortable, homey feel of this colourful, comfortable guesthouse. The location was perfect for me as it was close to the office, and seconds away from 7th Street in Melville - a few blocks of great bars, restaurants and shops. I was told the area is relatively safe - I never felt unsafe during my stay, but then... More

We have stayed several days at Gecko's. It was really fantastic! A very spacious room with nice bathroom. No effort is to much for this host. A special demand is taken care of before you finish the sentence. Good wifi, also in the bedroom. Very happy and relaxing to sit outside by the little pool. One night we got food... More
