There are many hotels in the area of Sandton city and the price is very different depending on where you select. I stayed in the larger room that allowed access to the 23rd floor lounge. The booking claimed the breakfast would be different and better but if anything food at the lounge was the same if not worse. I had breakfast the at the restaurant and the lounge but the food was the same at both locations, I have had better selections and quality at 3 star hotels before. The staff at breakfast didn't start attending to people until customers called them from the kitchen for attention. At check-in the staff did not explain anything about the facilities such as the pool, lounge, fitness etc etc; had to go to back to the lobby to check myself. The hotel sent me an email after the booking for a bottle of wine in the room at check-in and other services for a fee, I requested a bottle of wine for about 300 rands extra. The lady at check-in actually asked me what the service was and was not sure if the wine was ready and she even asked if it was a once off charge; seems odd they would ask me about how their own service worked. The room itself was very big with a tub and a shower and the view was very good. The best was comfortable but there was not complementary water at check-in, it was only delivered later in the evening. Overall I would have rather saved my money and stayed at another location for the price, the hotel is only reasonable if you stay at the most basic room as paying 3.5K zar a night and such poor service is just ridiculous. Save your money and pick another location unless you want to pay a bit more to stay at the other 5 star hotels.…
We had two nights here then went to the Kruger and then returned for a further two nights before returning to the UK. Having overcome our amazement of the reception being on the 13th floor and then being given an upgrade to a business room we really enjoyed our time here. We only used the hotel shuttle to get to Nelson Mandela Square once then walked it. We felt safe but we were not out later than about 8.30pm. Any later and we would have used the shuttle. Breakfast was very comprehensive, good choice of cereals, yoghurt, fresh fruit. Eggs done anyway you wanted, many different breads, pastries, fruit juice and you could squeeze your own orange juice if you felt inclined. Service was excellent in the restaurant, bar, reception and the concierge. We left two of our cases with the hotel when we went to the Kruger, no problem. There is a very safe park opposite for a walk in the day time. Not advisable at night. Nelson Mandela Square is about a 10 minute walk away with many restaurants and shops. If you stay business or get an up grade then use the business lounge on the 23rd floor it is excellent.…
I’ve stayed at this hotel before a couple of years ago and thought it was great. It remains a good hotel but the service has gone a couple of notches down and it’s age is starting to show with some nips and tucks required. The room is cookie cup: standard chain fair with basic mod-cons. The location is good and breakfast was satisfactory. Comparing my previous experience vs most recent stay I don’t think it is great value anymore. Definitely not bad but definitely not best in class…
this hotel is an absolute establishment, processes and quick and efficient, everything happens effortlessly and always a smile. and to add, the guest always look like they are at home and having a good time
Location further out from Mandela Square, not advisable to walk but free shuttle runs every half an hour. Staff friendliness and helpfulness very variable. Average nights sleep, room decor dated. Nice bathroom but shower lukewarm. Business lounge disappointing, main restaurant much nicer.…
