Detailed Reviews
We won a free weekend and stayed there this weekend in the Casino Hotel. The resort is fairly old but the room we were given was very comfortable. It overlooked the veldt at the back of the hotel and so was lovely and quiet. The deal was bed and breakfast and I must say the breakfasts were really good with a wide choice of hot freshly cooked food and plenty of cold cuts and cheese and fruit if you were not so hungry. There is a gymnasium with fairly rudimentary but new equipment. I used the exercise bike and rowing machine both with air braking and therefore accurate readings of calories used.

Your cleaning staff need to be taught manners, one of the ladies was very rude and pushed my daughter with me in full view - I let it go for the sake of my kids but if I see her again on my next trip she better act right or I'll knock her teeth out.
Awesome place, we will return because we couldn't enjoy most of the facilities due to Covid-19. We plan on returning towards the end of the year.

Hello tmokoe394879 Thank you for your review and 5 star rating. We appreciate all the feedback. As the premier leisure and business destination in the Vaal we certainly cater to the entire family and you'll always be treated as royalty. Thank you too for the compliments, we really appreciate it and we'll definitely pass them along to the management and team, although we will definitely have a word with the management of the cleaning staff as that is not how our VIP guests are ever treated! We look forward to seeing the entire family again soon! Adventure Awaits! Laurent Pacariz Emerald Resort & Casino Operations Manager

The property is beautiful and well maintained until you enter one of the self catering units. The place is infested with flies and everyone was rushing to the onsite kiosk to purchase Doom. The furniture and decor is outdated, kitchen was not hygienic to prepare meals. What was supposed to be a self catering unit turned out to us spending money at the restaurants. The bedding had a damp smell and we had to cover our pillows with towels in order to sleep. Very bad experience with the self catering chalet. the only good thing about our stay was the Aquadome which kept the kids entertained for most of our stay.

Don't go!
1. My experiences starting with trying to get information about the camping facilities. With no rates on the website and the online booking claiming that the campsites were fully booked.
2. I then tried to call the reservations desk, after hours (literally) of waiting on the line and dropped calls, I eventually got hold of the person doing the bookings. They claimed that the campsites were full, however couldn't tell me what the booking process was and that I had to book. She then emailed me a "reservation confirmation". This did not confirm gate times or office hours for camping. Many calls later I still had not spoken to the bookings desk again.
3. Out of frustration I decided to just go and see what I find. On arrival, the queue at the reception took longer than the drive there, literally. Several people pushed in front at the counter and this was totally ignored by the reception desk and they were helped first. After about an hour someone came from the back and asked if they could assist me. I was then led to the counter where I was told by the counter staff that they were "fully booked". After checking in and paying for my stay which was expensive, I asked where the pool and entertainment area for the kids was and I was told "You'll find it". By this time my 3yr son was very irritated as he was bored with all the waiting and the rain was approaching fast and we still had to erect the tent.
4. The campsites are sparse to be frank and very open and exposed for camping and only one (1) campsite occupied! The bathrooms and kitchen area were neglected and dirty. The grass was up to calf height in places.
5. The river is certainly not in walking distance for a 3yr old and neither is the pool, which is hidden away and there were no "lifeguards" on duty and the posted signed indicated. This is no surprise as nobody was there.
6. The jungle gym was full of water and inaccessible to kids.
7. Then came the shocker, it appears that the industrial generator for the complex is situated in the centre of the camping area. This is excessively loud and it's impossible to communicate at the camp sites while this is running, never mind getting a 3yr old to sleep.

Saturday (04/09/2021) - No soap, no face cloth to wipe the water that continuously spills all over the wash area. Reported to guy at reception, he advised his out of stock and I should wait till 07:30 when the cleaning staff starts. I told him that I have a spa booking at 07:45 and no soap to bath (the cleaner even removed the open soap that was in the bathroom the previous day). He said his shift ends in 5 minutes and I got to wait till 07:30 so I asked him to leave a note for the manager to contact me then 5 minutes later, he comes knocking at the door with the soap
We booked 4 nights and entire stay, the room smelt like a sewerage dam. It was unhealthy! We called maintenance twice during the trip, the staff as well could not breath when they were called as well yet we were not even offered to be moved or received any feedback since maintenance did their investigation. Apart from this, the shower water kept stalling however that was livable but not the smell that we had to pay to live with!

Wouldn’t recommend this resort to anyone, what we saw online didn’t meet our expectation, firstly upon arrival I encountered a very rude patrol guard, whilst seated by the swing by the main reception, staff don’t even even direct you to your respective chalet, the chalet wasn’t entirely clean, the worst is the shower that floods(bad drainage). When you call main reception no one answers. I travel all over the world this place is the worst, guest services, next to none.

If this place doubles as a museum then it’s on point. But for a modern accommodation it’s is so bad to point where I personally feel that the owners don’t value guests money. The resort itself have more money than an average boutique hotel but those hotels feels like owners made an effort to make guests feel welcomed.

The chalets get 1 star and other facilities around the resort get 4 stars. Averaging at 2 stars.
The chalets were quite disappointing. The living room had comfortable seating places for 3 adults in a 4 sleeper (2 bedroom) chalet. The kitchen was dirty with permanent dirt marks on the cream tiles. The fridge barely worked and pests were the order of the day. The beds were however comfortable and that was the only pro in the chalet.
The pool on the other hand was quite lovely, we also gained access to the main hotel's pool, the resort's shuttle service and the game drive which was lovely.
