This Hotel is looking good and clean but I found the staff are quite rude, and the buffet is not much of buffet hardly much choice for vegetarian. The room had air-con which was not controllable by remove it kept going on, and no water in the room was left. Also the mosquito plug had nothing in it, further more the water for the shower was nearly cold. As we were there on tour and staying 1night only did complain but no apology from Manager. Manager seems full of praise but did not deliver.

Anew hotel I rate them 5 star ⭐️ because of the service rendered during our stay and the hotel itself. It's a place where you can go for family, personal or work purposes. The food was scrumptious, thanks to the chefs. The rooms are clean and comfortable

Very conveniently located to explore the Imfolozi Reserve, generously sized family rooms and decent dinner buffets, having friendly and eager to help staff and management, Anew Hluhluwe ticks some of the boxes. Unfortunately charm needs to be reinforced with comfort to make for a complete pleasant stay. The physical defects of this establishment is immediately felt. Carpets are old and mouldy, rough cast plaster walls with old paint work is unsightly, the bathroom (in the room we occupied) has poor ventilation with a noisy extractor fan that does little to keep the sewer stench away, tiles get sticky with moisture & the heavy rains pre & during our stay gave the entire place a swampy feel. Also not thoroughly impressed with the linen & towels, rain may’ve affected laundry.. the towels & linen felt damp & dusty. I do believe the hotel has potential & a bit of TLC will make it a great place.

Our stay was the best from the time we arrived, Nkosi and Thami made sure we understand and kept abreast with all the details including advising on activities, Gugu and Lindie from the Housekeeping team made our stay most comfortable ensuring our room is decorated nicely, Bethuel in the Dinning Hall accommodated all our requests and we are great full..all other staff played their role to their best of ability, thank you!

I've personally known and stayed in this hotel since a child in the Seventies staying there right up to last Christmas and this year too. It seems to have just always been there, even the same fever trees tower at the entrance, in the bird filled gardens and next to the pool. The only true hotel in town besides many B&Bs now. Locals, farmers and conservation stalwarts would congregate here to discuss issues of the week, swop stories, wildlife encounters and life in general over a sundowner or meal. Visitors to the Park too, wide eyed and excited soaking up the buzzing atmosphere. Full of memories of the good old days of Rhino conservation where there was a collective interest in conservation which is also a bit of days gone by scenario. A short ten minute drive to Memorial Gate of the Hluhluwe park itself. Unfortunately both the Park (sadly) and the Hotel have seen better days. The foyer entrance and lounge have been upgraded since the hotel was just the Hluhluwe Hotel but the lovely big rooms on the ground floor where we always stay are looking and feeling dated. The beds are comfortable but I was relieved I had brought my own down pillow as foam gives me a neck ache. Our curtains were past their best and the netting yellow and brown from age, the carpet a bit stained etc. There's seating outside the rooms which is very pleasant for bird watching as are the gardens. Birds flock to this hotel as it's something an oasis with the pretty ponds and flowers along the outside corridor, here you can see relative rarities close up. The food is by no means spectacular anymore, in fact disappointing, this has of course varied over the years but I've never seen it so bad. Basically buffet style though there is also à la carte. Bulk definitely wins over quality and selection on the buffet, given the spectacular produce available in that country it's also unforgivable. The food is also not the freshest nor kept very hot and misses the good old South African favourites, or if present lacking any authenticity what so ever or the correct flavours. Dont expect a real sumptuous Durban lamb curry with all the fresh chutneys or even a fabulous boerewors "braai" for example. Desserts are mostly custardy and melted ice cream* flopped Malva pudding style. Breakfast is just so so, lacking fresh fruit to eat with cereals and the coffee machine was broken. The "waiter" however was happy to keep running to fetch more fresh cappuccinos/lattes for everyone which meant there was hardly ever anyone at reception to seat anyone. This wasn't free. There was also pre-made in a dispenser which was suitably nasty. Unfortunately I had a very severe bought of food poisoning the second night in the hotel after dinner. Initially we went into the Hluhluwe park entrance the last morning of our stay but my condition worsened after vomiting all night. I became feverish and had terrible attacks of diarrhoea. As it was our last night in ANEW I had to book into a resort nearby as I couldn't much face booking another night like the last in ANEW. We spent two nights recovering there with a doctor visiting. I became incredibly weak and couldn't much enjoy what was a rather nice resort or the Hluhluwe Park nearby. It was still rather charming convalescing with a view of impala flitting amongst the grass around our chalet on stilts. At least it wasn't ANEW. Basically I wouldn't say ANEW Hluhluwe hotel is anywhere near a "world class hotel" or experience, and I'm a seasoned globe trotter, it is though very much worse than THEveryOLD Hluhluwe hotel from it's fame and glory days gone by. If I had to give it the international hotel star rating I would give it a generous two star with maybe four star pricing. Location alone is still the reason I keep staying there and that hasn't changed from the old days luckily. The staff are friendly and someone looks after the kids in the pool area, though I wouldn't rely on it 100% as it's always basically your own responsibility. The pool is right outside the lounge area so also a bit noisy so doesn't make for a very good place to sit outdoors and have a meal or conversation but there are a few tables and umbrellas to sit and watch the children from there. There are Zulu dancers that you can go and watch outside every evening or inside the lounge if it's raining. The drumming is excellent. The bar is Ok however when we visited in the evening before dinner a couple of already drunk ladies loudly soliciting their ample wares arrived shortly after which definitely was a turn off. The barmen seeing our growing displeasure and mounting anger eventually sent them packing by having someone escort them out of the hotel. Why they were tolerated there in the first place I'm just not exactly sure or why he took so long getting rid of them Im also not so sure but as a family hotel it was a bit of a nasty surprise. The hotel is well situated as far as game drives go into Hluhluwe Reserve, also off the main highway on the way to or from Durban North or South. You can get the safari drives through the hotel but basically most visitors self-drive through the Park in rental cars or their own cars. Rentals you get from the airport in Durban. Not sure if the hotel arranges cars or pick ups from the airport but it is some distance, three hours if you're lucky on a dangerous mostly two lane highway with not many safe stops after the last fuelling stop nearer Durban, the last of the better bit of the highway. Take it easy and you should be OK, though. People tend to speed badly and there are big trucks but you can drive on the hard shoulder, many do and safely as its wide. For your own safety it is inadvisable to stop along the way so take drinks and snacks for the drive. You can refuel perfectly safely in Hluhluwe near the hotel. The situation at Hluhluwe reserve itself has become dire. But that's for a different conversation. It is still very much worth driving through but no longer to stay which is indeed terribly terribly sad. For sure with just a bit of luck you can still see the big five. At least for now.

Very pleasant stay at the Anew Hotel in Hluhluwe. On arrival we were greeted by very friendly reception staff with a refresher towel upon check in. We stayed in a Standard room which was spacious, clean and the shower has great pressure. The in room mini bar fridge was stocked with still water. At 8pm there was a Zulu dancing show in the boma area, lovely entertainment. Only fault for this property is the drinks at the bar are very expensive; the food at the restaurant is also overpriced and the meals definitely do not fit the budget. The portions are of great size however; one example was a R95 breakfast wrap that needed to be sent back as description included avocado and a tomato chilli jam which was not present on the plate. The property is conveniently located as you enter the town of Hluhluwe, making a good option to stop overnight en route elsewhere.

Two nights stay during our group tour (17 pax) in SA. When we arrived we felt very welcome, a drink and refreshing towels were served. The room was on the ground floor in, what I would call a "transit" corridor...many other guest from group tours were allocated here that resulted in much traffic and noise here. Room was large but we found a major cleaning problem here...told reception and was solved after we had diner but we kept wondering whether the rest of the room would have been properly cleaned or not. Bathroom was very small, "one person each", luckily there was a separate toilet. Diner (buffet) was OK. When we go to sleep there was a tremendous noise from a bunch of guests laughing and shouting in the room next to ours. We waited about 30 min. but the noise was only increasing so we asked housekeeping to ask them to be more quiet, which hey dit and it was quiet the whole night. Breakfast was just OK, no cheeses available and the live cooking stand for eggs took too long to prepare an egg, only one person to do the job was way to few, coffee or tea was self service. Prices for drinks in the restaurant and the bar were good but service, again, very slow, even chaotic when we ordered a bottle of wine during diner. During our two days stay we had three times a problem with our key card and two times a problem with the safe who wouldn't open with the correct code ! Each time we had to go to reception desk and stand in line to resolve this. Regarding the safari part, we had a lovely time, saw many animals, great 4x4 truck with an excellent driver/guide.
