Detailed Reviews
This was a wonderful venue as we were in The Lodge which sleeps 12 and there was ample room for us all plus a large lounge and a lovely deck overlooking the Umzimkulu River and hills with the occasional deer around, too. One of our problems was that there were hundreds of flies which really bothered us. The restaurant, too, was good although the menu wasn't very innovative. Our host was very helpful as were all the rest of the staff and went out of their way to make us comfortable. The double beds were very small and we could have done with a King size one. However, we all enjoyed ourselves and the adults and youngsters had great fun on the river with kayaks and rubber tubes. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Good getaway outside the city but still got everything I needed. Service is great, loads of activities plus the blanket warmer was helpful when it was cold. Hire a car so you can go around. Owners are very helpful if you need yours to Lesoto

Umzimkulu River Lodge, is, as the name implies, situated on right on the river. The frost in the morning combining with the steam from the warmer water was magical.
I stayed in Pygmy Cottage. I can safely say it was unique with a comfortable living area and kitchen in a single space downstairs, and bathroom and bedroom upstairs including a small balcony with river views.
The property is quite narrow so the staircase to the upper floor is very steep, which, for me, added to the charm of the cottage.
I would happily stay there again.

Amazing place to stay. We stayed in the Giant Cabin which had more than enough space to 12 people. 3 showers and bathrooms. Incredible views from the deck with the river right in front of you and the gorge about 700 M. Also very private and away from everyone else. The house is well equipped with ice machine, washing machine, microwave etc. (Even has a potjie pot) The owners are super friendly and helpful and really go out their way. It is also pet friendly and our All in all we will definitely be back there again

My 6 year old son and I spent to fun filled two days at the Lodge. The river views are spectacular and loved our fishing from the bank and from the boats supplied by Umzimkulu. Many other activities kept my son busy. Steve was a wonderful, friendly host and we hope to spend some more time there in the future.

whether you are a walker, fisherman or just wanting a break from the hustle and bustle of the city I would highly recommend Umzumkulu Lodge. The cottages are lovely, clean and very well equipped. The owners are most accommodating. The cherry on top for me was, as they new I was coming on a fishing trip, the river was in total flood, they even gave me the opportunity to postpone! Wonderful people, wonderful place. If you have never been, I would highly recommend it!

Relaxing getaway with friends. Enjoyed a river walk, sundowners on the deck, soothing massage and listening to the birds .Restaurant is closed, take all you need for your stay. Chalet has a fireplace, enjoyed reading, eating, relaxing and being welcomed by the owners cat, Cloe and dog, Jack. Lovely place.

We stayed in the comfortable Pet Friendly two-bed-room cottage. Securely fenced, plenty space for the dogs. Serviced daily by friendly and helpful staff. Verandah and lounge great spots for sitting still, reading. For us the main attraction were the walks and fantastic swimming opportunities in the river. Hosts Steve and Lyn were helpful when asked - just a whatsapp message away. No hesitation in recommending.
