The Vuyani Safari Lodge is located in the Blue Canyon Private Game Reserve which is more than 36,000 acres in size and part of the Greater Kruger National Park area. At the foot of the Drakensberg mountain range, Vuyani Safari Lodge is one of South Africa's premier safari lodges, in the country's most famous area for African wildlife. The Vuyani Safari Lodge is one of only a handful of licensed lodges on this reserve, and with only 10 rooms, it offers an exceptional safari experience in South Africa. The reserve offers a unique opportunity to observe all of Africa's large game such as the lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, hippo and crocodile as well as some of the very rarest species, amongst others the wild dog, the brown hyena, the ground hornbill, cheetahs and several other highly endangered animals. Almost 400 various species of birds have been counted. Some of the rarest European migratory birds visit the reserve in the European winter months.

My wife and I honeymooned at Vuyani Safari Lodge last year. As we celebrate our first anniversary, all we can think about is going back. It was a wonderful experience of serenity, beauty, and adventure.

My wife found Vuyani from an ad on Instagram. I was a little skeptical but she looked into it more and convinced me. Whatever expectations we had going in, they were met and then exceeded throughout our stay.

Game drives are what you go to a place like Vuyani for. Ours were amazing. There are two per day (one at dawn and one at dusk). You get to see sunrise and sunset in the bush everyday. The guides and drivers who led our game drives were so knowledgeable and professional but also welcoming and friendly. Our driver, John, and our guide, Clarence, made sure to help us see all the animals we could dream of. We saw giraffes, cheetahs, lions, elephants, and many more. They also made sure we noticed interesting plants and landscapes and pointed out constellations in the sea of stars we saw at night. While out on a drive, they also stopped to have a snack and a drink which was an underrated part of the experience. Standing there in the bush, having a beer with my wife as the sun set is maybe the most at peace I’ve ever felt.

Back at the lodge, the amazing staff saw to our every need to make sure we were always comfortable. The rooms are well-appointed and cozy. There’s no TV or phone in the room (you won’t miss them and there is WiFi). Our suite had a plunge pool outside which was fun because impala and kudu would sometimes come drink out of it. There was also a mini-fridge which would be stocked with whatever you want and refilled by the staff daily. In the evenings, dinner became a cultural event where people from around the globe ate, drank, and enjoyed meeting each other. In between all of this, Vuyani offers excursions you can do between the morning and evening game drives. We did a different excursion everyday and the staff took care of us, making sure we got where we needed to go and were well fed on our way.

One of our favorite parts of the stay was the wake up calls. Since there’s no phone, they do it in person. Before dawn, a man would come knock on our door and say “Good Morning!” in the happiest tone as if he were smiling ear to ear the whole time. Once we told him we were up, we’d get a happy “Thank you!” This is but one example of the happy memories we made during our stay.

We had the most amazing stay at Vuyani and would highly recommend the experience to everyone.

Just came back from a 5 day safari with my girlfriend. It was great to experience the wilderness with all the luxury that is provided by the Vuyani Safari Lodge especially after almost a full year of lockdowns here in Germany.
The room was excellent, very clean and well serviced. There was a free minibar and free wifi. The staff was very nice, accommodating & respectful over our whole stay. They were available to us 24/7.
The food on the lodge was amazing, really clean, tasty & varied. We could help ourselves to an open buffet 3 times a day. The staff wore masks and gloves and respected health practices at every step.
The safari game drives were by far the best part of our trip! We got to see a lot of animals in their natural habitat, cheetahs, hippos, zebras, lions and giraffes! We would often stop to take pictures. The view and the scenery were incredible and the guides really made the effort to have us make the best out of our trip. The weather was also great!

Everything about Vuyani is excellent. The rooms are beautiful and kept exceptionally clean. The staff are professional, gracious and knew our names upon arrival. The food is excellent and the kitchen graciously accommodates dietary preferences and requirements.
The game drivers and trackers are very knowledgeable and are great at finding and getting close to the animals. Because you have the same driver and tracker during your stay you get to know them and vice versa. There is a great social vibe... meals are taken at common tables which promotes camaraderie.

Inspired by Nature . serene beauty , ultimate getaway for a holidays. various wildlife to see every where. Peaceful place with a great host & staff. I stayed 6 nights night on a trip with my friends and will definitely be staying here in future longer trips. The host was really great and helped us as a first time visitors with all the info about the area from restaurants, tourist attractions etc.

Dinner each night was absolutely top notch - the best food we had during our trip to South Africa. we had several types of meat each evening on the braai, beef, chicken, all cooked to perfection.

The rooms had everything you needed and sitting on your patio watching a kudu stroll by not few feet away is something you won't forget. The room was clean with lots of thought put into the needs of a guest. The hosts were very professional and went all out to make our stay comfortable.

this place is simply exceptional & highly recommended!!

From the moment Gerry picked us up from the airport, with his friendliness and advice we knew we were on to a winner even before we arrived at the Vuyani Lodge. A warm and very inviting welcome awaited us and we were treated to a cocktail on arrival before we even checked in!
We had booked a luxury suite and somehow this is the lowest grade room and felt like there had been a mistake! it was sheer palatialness! All the mod cons with the highlights being his and hers sinks, bed mozzy nets and of course a fully stocked mini bar!
Gerry and Steven were our game guides and there knowledge and personalities shone through immediately. The unforgettable 5;30am wake calls were all worth after a vat full of coffee as the jaw-dropping sunrises made it all worth it. Upon our game drives, Gerry and Stephen would off-road more than Colin McRae and took us up close and personal with all the Big 5. For us, the highlight being an evening one on one with the Alpha male lion! Each drive (10 of them on our 5 night stay) is 3 hours long but flies by and is also assisted by great lashings of coffee in the morning sun and whatever your tipple is come sundown. All set in the sensational landscape of the Blue Canyon in the distance.
Back at the lodge you are pretty much treated like royalty. The staff address you by your name which a nice touch and with only a capacity of about 16, everything feels like it has a personal touch added. The range of food at both lunch and dinner was beyond expectation. Wilde-beest, Kudu and beef fillet were top of the tree for us but if that wasnt to your liking for dinner then there were alternatives. We were treated to a superb variety of lunches too including homemade quiches and a lovely veggie curry pot amongst others.
All areas inside and out are spotless with the army of staff always on hand whatever the request. The pool (a bit cold!) and the patio area are set with the Blue Canyon as a breathtaking backdrop and is an ideal place to chill out and do zilch.
Special mentions again to Gerry and Stephen for the fountain of knowledge and wisdom on the game drives. KG, Lani and Justine were just some of the names we remember for making our trip feel like it was on another level. All the staff deserve the highest of praise but we just cannot recall your names!
We are already missing the hot flannels and are currently plotting a return to this fabulous place!

Every single thing about the stay was exceptional, we have never felt so welcomed and looked after on any trip before.
From the moment we got picked up at the airport by Harrod, who’s amazing knowledge and friendly personality we were made to feel so welcome.
As we arrived at the lodge we were overwhelmed with how beautiful it was. The pictures do not do justice to how amazing it really is. We were greeted by homoto who went above and beyond to ensure we had the most perfect stay. The attention to detail with everything is amazing.
The upgrade to the honeymoon lodge was worth the money; we enjoyed having our private whirlpool space to chill out and the room was fantastic.
All the staff remembered our names, our drinks we liked, everything felt so personal and special.
The game drives were amazing. Paul was our game ranger for the first half of the week- and there was nothing that he didn’t know. His knowledge and passion for his work was unbelievable. He made our drives so special and we were lucky enough to see the big 5 on our first drive with him. Every question we had Paul answered with such detail and every day we saw new and amazing things.
The chefs and the food are to an extremely high standard. The choice, the quality, the presentation, absolutely beautiful. Everything was cooked to perfection and there is so much choice you certainly never go hungry.
Overall we can’t say enough positive about this place. We would love to be able to come back again one day.

My recent stay in the presidential suit was amazing. The accommodations were clean, spacious and well attended to by Vuyani staff.
The two daily game drives were peaceful, exciting, reflective and extremely informative. Uyai and Chris, our guide and tracker, were amazing and never disappointed us. We tracked elephants, lions, leopards and cheetah and their persistence and knowledge of the bush never disappointed!
The staff at Vuyani are amazing! They take professionalism to the next level! The chefs, waiters, night watchman, maintenance and housekeeping staff are friendly and went above and beyond to make our time there unforgettable. I truly miss their smiling faces!
The front of house staff are an amazing team who operate as a well oiled machine. They were instrumental in making my stay memorable. I appreciate their knowledge of Hoedspruit, making our trips to town successful. Tip- They know some great shopping spots so don’t forget to ask them!
You will not be disappointed if you stay here! I certainly have no regrets!

My friends and and I had the absolute pleasure of staying at Vuyani, and wow we will never forget the experience! Janni (our driver/comedian) and Aggy (our tracker/the kindest man alive) were the absolute highlight and made sure we saw everything!- on our 1st out of 8 drives we had ticked off the big 5. Their knowledge and respect for the wildlife was outstanding and customer service was like no other. Janni went out of his way exhibiting incredible off road skills to ensure we didn’t miss a thing and we absolutely trusted his and Aggy’s read of the animals and felt so safe. The lodge staff were also fantastic, every meal was absolutely delicious with lots of variety, and house keeping were on point, servicing the room 3/4 times per day to ensure our stay was comfortable. One to remember forever and we are extremely grateful- will certainly be back. Thank you so so much- love Lou, Emma and G

We spent 6 nights at Vuyani and from the moment we arrived to the moment we left it was truely amazing. All staff are fantastic, friendly and will help you with anything you may need.
The food and drink is amazing and cater for all tastes and dietary requirements.
The drivers and trackers go over and above to make sure the guests see the BIG 5, whilst nothing is guaranteed you can be assured they will do their best. We were very lucky to see the Big 5 and so much more, in fact we did a Kruga excursion day trip (Optional extra) and we saw less than the Vuyani reserve. John and Peace were our driver and tracker, they are full of knowledge and go off road to give you the extra close up shots everyone wants.
We had 2 safaris a day, one in morning and one in evening, giving you time to relax back at the lodge or go on one of the excursions they offer.
It is fairly small lodge keeping it very personal.
Every member of staff will introduce themselves.
Front of house Divine, James ,Vlak and KG gtest hosts.
Duncan and the kitchen team cater for everyone's needs. Often checking everything is satisfactory.

Expect to see wild animals roaming freely around the lodges. But once it gets dark the staff assist you to the meal areas offering more light.
At meal times the groups are mixed, so you get to meet other people and share your safari sightings, really useful and a great way to meet people from around the globe.
If you are out for the day on a excursion they will make you a packed lunch and they are always conscious you are returned for lunch or dinner.
You'll see reviews about clothing, we went towards the end of september and whilst we hadhot weather, once the sun disappears on a drive, its chilly, so a warm hat and outer wear needed.

If you fly into Johannesburg there are 2 options of transport. One offered by Vyani is a 5 1/2 hour taxi ride charged to you. This is nice to see more of the country.
Alternatively you can book yourself a short flight (40minutes) from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit from where you can get a free transfer to the lodge.

I really can't recommend vuyani enough. This was our first safari and will definitely be returning.

Louise & Jason Moody

The Vuyani Lodge Resort was everything we expected and more. From the minute we arrived everyone made us feel like royalty. The front of house team greeted you warmly whether you had just arrived or simply returned from a game drive. Lets start there…….Each day you one of the security team wakes you at 04.45 and allows about 30 minutes for you to get ready for the morning game drive. When it is dark you have to be escorted everywhere, after all you are in the bush, so at 05.15 you are picked up and taken to have some tea/coffee before leaving. It can be a little chilly in the mornings when the vehicle is moving so think it through. Out for about 3 hours including a coffee stop in the bush you get to see the sun come up and the animals more active than when it starts to get hot. Back for breakfast then you can do what you like……….. until lunch at 13.30 except walk outside the resort of course. Then the evening game drive at 16.00. Comfortable clothing makes sense and no bright colours. This was our favourite as it’s nice and warm. Being up close to that many wild animals is an experience you’ll never forget. Our guide Jerry and tracker Stevan were special and we learnt much about the animals and plants. Usually back for dinner around 19.00 for dinner at 20.00. You should have time to get ready for dinner but it won’t be more than 45 minutes.
The room was spacious and clean and very private. A patio and plunge pool served two purposes. Firstly we enjoyed cooling down in it but also experienced Impala and Nyala drinking from it. There’s a small swimming pool by the main lodge but be aware beyond that there’s not much else to do unless you pay to go on trips to for example animal rescue centres or a boat trip in Blyde River Canyon……which is highly recommended. The food is excellent and varied and the Vuyani team work hard to make your stay special……………….We weren’t disappointed.

Hi Leonie, Always go with your doctor's advice. In the area the lodge is located, and the areas in Kruger Park our extra excursions go to, we never had any issues with malaria. If you decide to take malaria medication please make sure to get the one best suited to you. There are several choices and some tablets can develop side-effects which can impact your stay. (fatigue, nausea, headaches, you doctor will know much better) If you choose to take tablets just make sure you get the ones that wont spoil your holiday with us :)
