Detailed Reviews
Me and my husband stayed at the Bateleurs teresa for three nights (5-7 February) to celebrate our 40th anniversary. We have enjoyed every minute we have spent in these three days. The fantastic and breathtaking views with the most quiet and safe surroundings and the most beautiful arranged breakfast any one would dream of. Most importantly, we have been overwhelmed with the kind hospitality of Zonia, the owner/manager and her sister Trix. We felt their warm welcome and friendship as if we knew them for a long time. What attracted and admired us most are their neat and beautiful touches all over the place. We had the African room. It was marvellous and makes you get the feel of the African life.
Thank you Zonia for taking care of us and definitley we will come back.

We had a wonderful three nights here. The location is truly stunning, set high on Camps Bay with the ocean below and the Twelve Apostles behind. To maximise the benefits of staying here, we had a braai (barbeque) on two of our three nights, enjoying the wonderful landscape. The other memorable feature of our stay was the welcome from Zania and Jasper who could not have been more hospitable and helpful. Our room was very comfortable and we had our own outside area with jacussi and small garden. Highly recommended.

This venue is stunning and the hosts had an amazingly personal touch to make our trip very special. We found the facilities very good, and the rooms are airconditioned and well maintained. It is pretty much the last house up at the top of Camps Bay, so it required that you have a rental car to really ensure you get the best out of it. There was a personal letter to us when we arrived, with a fruit basket, wishing us a pleasant stay. The hosts are very attentive, yet totally unobtrusive. It is genuinely self catering, so we typically had a small breakfast at the location, and the rest of the time we ate out. Top benefit here is the view from way up high overlooking Camps Bay - it is very special and I highly recommend it.

It's important to say that this place is not all bad. The view is great and the food is OK.
But the bottom line is that any system which grades this at 5*s (as the SA Authority seems to have done) is just not credible: it is a perfectly OK 2* place, perhaps with some elements of 3*s.
The staff have no real idea of what service means. They are not unpleasant, but they don't really seem to have any idea what to do, and they are never there when you want to go and find them. And you will need to be going to find them quite a lot, because a lot of things seem to break! From air conditioning that doesn't work, to shutter/doors not that don't close, various little things don't work. The rooms have a "safe" but although it looks like one, if the lock on its door is broken, and it isn't bolted to the wall (you could just take it off the shelf) is this really a safe....
Geoffrey has no real idea. He is quite pleasant, but ask yourself, in a "5 star" place do you really expect to have to spend 5 minutes explaining the concept of "still" and "sparkling" water? And perhaps it would be good if you could get some of either.
The "self catering" facilities are not really self catering: you could certainly boil the kettle and make some toast fine, but if you were actually think of doing some self catering, you would be very disappointed. A sink and some crockery is not really self catering.
And I don't understand why they don't have some information in the room on the basics, like what time breakfast is, and that kind of thing. Pretty much every hotel I have ever stayed in round the world has this.
The view is great and definitely a high point - but this is because it is half way up the mountain, miles from anywhere and at the end of an enormous and extremely confusing road system above Camps Bay. If you were planning to go to Camps Bay to enjoy the beach, it is the best part of an hour's walk to the beach. And generally, if you don't have a car, then this is definitely not the place to go to.
It's perfectly clean and pleasant enough. But other places we stayed in SA which had 5 *s on the same grading system were genuinely luxurious. The idea that this place is in the same category is just silly, I'm afraid.

Amazing views, clean and spacious room (Ocean View room), very quiet, working a/c (eventually!). Hot tub not working. Lack of communication. We didn't know the hot tub wouldn't be working until arrival. The manager insisted that she had emailed to let us know but this was not the case. Breakfast was filling - not great cooked breakfast though. The kitchen girls didn't really know what they were doing. Upon check out we paid by card and then a 'goodbye' letter was handed to us stating that if we were to pay by cash we could get 5% off!
There was no welcome pack upon arrival with information regarding restaurants/maps into town/buses etc. It was a 35 minute walk down the hill to get to the beach. It would have been good if they had a shuttle bus/taxi at least one way.
This is supposed to be a 4/5* accommodation. The manager was away and there was a replacement who did her best but didn't know the ropes too well. The whole package is definitely not a 4/5*. The actual manager was very rude and condescending when we asked for a discount due to the hot tub not working.

I have just returned home from the most memorable, spiritual, energizing and fun stay at Bateleur in Cape Town, Camps Bay.
Everything about this place was spectacular from the breathtaking views to having the most caring and sincere hosts.
I stayed in the Lavender room which was beautifully decorated with some small yet important personal touches. My views were the mountains and the forest so I did not draw the curtains close as I simply could not miss the beautiful nature that surrounded me. The views from the decks and the outdoor were out of a movie scene and I am therefore unable to put down in words the experience of the sunsets and sunrises I witnessed.
In the mornings I was not only welcomed by my lovely hosts Zonia and Trix but also an immaculately set breakfast table set outside on one of the decks with more amazing views of the Lion Head Mountain and the ocean.
The breakfast table had a different colour theme every day and my bowl of fruit salad beautifully served.
I truly felt my stay at Bateleur was heavenly – surrounded by nature, good food and more importantly wonderful hosts. I will certainly return to Bateleur because I didn’t have enough. Thank you Zonia and Trix for making my stay extra-special.

My wife and I recently stayed at Bateleurs for our honeymoon, and the B&B was the perfect combination of comfort, beauty, and relaxation. Franzonia and her husband, Jasper, were wonderful hosts, and went the extra steps to make our stay memorable.
We stayed in both the Ocean View and African Rooms, and both were spacious, clean, comfortable and without any issues. We spent plenty of time relaxing on the decks of these rooms as the views and sunsets were simply spectacular. In fact, we enjoyed our 'sundowners' sitting on the deck of our room much more than in the restaurants along the beaches in Camps Bay.
The staff were friendly, kind and helpful....with the perfect balance of being there when you needed them, but not being intrusive or rude. And their two (very well behaved) little dogs were the perfect addition for any dog lover.
The B&B is located up on the hill (away from the downtown of Camps Bay), right at the border of Table Mountain National Park, providing a quiet, peaceful, serene environment. I would definitely recommend having a rental car to make life easier during your stay here in in Cape Town.
Overall, a wonderful 'home base' for our honeymoon, and hopefully we get to spend many wedding anniversaries together again at Bateleurs B&B. Highly recommended to all!

We spent four nights in the Ocean Room. It has a lovely view of the ocean and you can even see the beach down below. You can enjoy watching lovely sunsets. You can either use the room for self catering or you can pay extra and have breakfast in the dinning room. We felt the service was excellent and the hospitality of the staff was warm and friendly and they helped us to feel welcome and at home. My wife and I really enjoyed staying here for four nights in January of 2013.

I was celebrating a birthday in SA and brought over two of my American friends (their 1st visit to South Africa) so was very important to impress them with our beautiful country and of course stunning views, accommodations and friendly people. All and more were found here at Bateleurs Theresa....thank you so much Zonia and Trix for an awesome few days. We will be back and recommend to all South Africans too.

The minute you arrive at this guesthouse you will know that you struck gold!
The rooms are beautiful with views that cannot be beat. If ever a 180 degree unobstructed view applied, it is here. From the friendly hosts, the beautifully prepared breakfast and the 5 star rooms - you will not be disappointed.
