In a city renowned for hospitality, Derwent House stands out as one of Cape Town's leading boutique guesthouses. Located in the heart of the vibrant Tamboerskloof/Gardens neighbourhood, this small hotel combines historic charm, contemporary Afro-chic style and all mod-cons for a uniquely Capetonian blend of ambience, warmth, and comfort. Our wonderful team completes the picture -- we go the extra mile for you and our guests leave as friends. We love colour and celebrate African design - you'll find it everywhere. But when it comes to the basics - like breakfast, bedding, showers, climate control, Wi-fi or news from home - we don't compromise so you don't have to. At Derwent House, you're steps away from the hustle and buzz of Kloof Street, with its collection of superb restaurants, bars and trendy boutiques--and just a few further to the nightlife hub of Bree and Long Streets. Yet just a short car journey from the Table Mountain cable car, the beaches of Clifton or Camp's Bay, and the V&A Waterfront. There's nowhere more central -- but come and see for yourself. We're waiting for you!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Great place to be in Capetown! We were welcomed late morning after our arrival to Capetown. While getting a welcome drink in the beautiful lounge, all 4 rooms were made ready. Staff is very friendly, specially to mention Luca. Location is in a very quiet and safe area. Parking is available or also very safe on the street. Lots of restaurants in walking distance. Also rooms and the pool are very nice. Breakfast is great, nice buffet and excellent choice of made to order eggs, waffles or pancakes. And not to forget a excellent honesty bar. Sure we can recommend the place for a stay in Capetown.

Book in a heart beat. The team were so helpful. It literally felt like your own home. The decor was amazing, the breakfast, the honesty bar, the location to great restaurants. Loved it. Felt like an oasis at the end of the day. A night cap to meet us every evening. Wonderful cakes.

We loved our 4 day stay at Derwent House. Our room, with a view over table mountain was welcoming and comfortable The hotel is set up like a home, with an honesty bar to help yourself from The free tea and coffee station in the kitchen, with delicious afternoon cakes was really appreciated The breakfasts - delicious fruit, pastries and cooked breakfast. The help we received from Luca - planning our trips while here and suggesting restaurants was all excellent. Highly recommend staying here

Our double room had a view of Table Mountain - loved watching the clouds come over. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay a wonderful experience - from arranging a wine lands tour to suggesting restaurants and other sights. Breakfast was nice and the living room area very pleasant for relaxing. We would return gladly.

My wife and I stayed 5 nights celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. The Derwent House was recommended to us by a close friend, and it's a wonderful boutique hotel in close proximity to Table Mountain, restaurants, and downtown Cape Town. Our room was very nice, with a wonderful view of Table Mountain. Luca and the entire staff were very friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and made our stay very special. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast every morning as well as afternoon/evening deserts, and a fantastic gin bar. We give Derwent House, Luca, and his staff the highest recommendation. Reserve a room immediately and you will not be disappointed!

Lovely boutique hotel. Decor was beautiful and all staff were fantastic. A really friendly place to stay. Unfortunately we were delayed by 22 hours but the hotel were kind enough to upgrade us to a suite room which had amazing views of Table Mountain. It was such a bonus following a disastrous start to our holiday. Would highly recommend.

We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is lovely, the staff amazing. They do everything they can to make your stay exceptional. The hotel location is perfect. It is a very short walking distance to all the restaurants on Kloof street. We will definitely stay at hotel again next time we are in Cape Town.

This was my second stay at Derwent House. I had another terrific stay. This time I stayed for five nights. The staff was simply amazing. I have to mention that Mercy really stands out. I arrived with a broken ankle, and the owner insisted on driving me to the clinic the next day. I was touched. The breakfasts at Derwent Hcondionditioningouse are just fantastic. There is a great cold buffet with fabulous cheeses, cold cuts, bread, and croissants. There is also a wide choice of cooked options. Derwent House is in a great location and is so close to so many of the best restaurants in Cape Town. It is also reasonably close to the V&A Waterfront. It takes only half an hour to reach the airport. The rooms are small but very comfortable. They are all heated and have air conditioning. The beds are super comfortable. I also have to say that Derwent House is quite reasonably priced. I really enjoyed chatting to my fellow guests.
