Certificate of Excellence
In a city renowned for hospitality, Derwent House stands out as one of Cape Town's leading boutique guesthouses. Located in the heart of the vibrant Tamboerskloof/Gardens neighbourhood, this small hotel combines historic charm, contemporary Afro-chic style and all mod-cons for a uniquely Capetonian blend of ambience, warmth, and comfort. Our wonderful team completes the picture -- we go the extra mile for you and our guests leave as friends. We love colour and celebrate African design - you'll find it everywhere. But when it comes to the basics - like breakfast, bedding, showers, climate control, Wi-fi or news from home - we don't compromise so you don't have to. At Derwent House, you're steps away from the hustle and buzz of Kloof Street, with its collection of superb restaurants, bars and trendy boutiques--and just a few further to the nightlife hub of Bree and Long Streets. Yet just a short car journey from the Table Mountain cable car, the beaches of Clifton or Camp's Bay, and the V&A Waterfront. There's nowhere more central -- but come and see for yourself. We're waiting for you!

It was wonderful having you two with us for your short stay, Anders F -- thanks so much for choosing Derwent House! With all the vast choices at your disposal as industry insiders and former residents, that's truly the ultimate accolade. We're delighted that you got to know and love a new neighbourhood staying with us. Our address is truly one of our best assets--as you note, safe, quiet and residential, not touristy at all, yet close and convenient to all the main sites are areas of interest. Not to mention Kloof, Bree and Long Streets, where you can eat, drink, shop and soak in the very best of everything Cape Town has to offer. Thanks for sharing your experience at Derwent House with other travellers and recommending us. We really appreciate, and so do they. We'll be looking forward to many return visits in the near future -- there's lots more Cape Town to share with you! From the whole team. our very grateful thanks for your generous review. See you both soon, Anahid & the team

You couldn't have given us a better gift than describing your stay as an "amazing experience," Katie S -- that's really what we're all about, what we're striving to do every day, for every guest. But it's especially heart-warming to hear this from honeymooners, knowing that we're providing the backdrop for your lifelong memories of this very special holiday. Thank you for this very generous review and recommendation to other travellers. It was only a pleasure to help you plan and organise your time in Cape Town. We know ourselves how difficult it is to make reservations and plans long-distance in a new city, so that's the very least we can do to help you get the most out of your visit. (Although the Pot Luck Club booking was indeed a bonus . . . just a bit of perseverance and good timing). Delighted to hear that the team, service, pool and breakfast all lived up to expectations upon arrival. Being described as "5 star" gives us all a huge boost -- you're so sweet. We loved hosting you for your honeymoon and hope that we'll see you back again very soon -- 1st or 2nd anniversary, perhaps? From the entire team, thank you once again for your lovely feedback. Very best regards from Cape Town, Anahid & the Derwent team

We stayed at Derwent House on the back end of a 10 day visit to SA and it was a welcome respite from the active safari we came from. Luca and his team are welcoming, generous hosts; they arranged dinners, made recommendations for shopping, activities and tours. We had a cozy,

Dear Matt H, Thanks from all of us so much for this effusive and detailed recommendation--we really do appreciate it! It's great to hear that we provided an oasis in the city after your active, early-rising safari experience. There's nothing like a comfy bed, lazy lie-in and great breakfast at the end of a great safari 😄. We love to help our visitors make the most of their time in our fabulous city: sharing our insider knowledge, restaurant and shopping tips and organising activities is all part of the plot to make you fall in love with the city and bring you back more often! And indeed, a personalised full-day Cape Point tour with Luca is hard to beat . . . Thanks also for your feedback on the comforts and amenities you enjoyed in your room. We're always alert to suggestions and advice as to anything more we could add that would improve your room experience--I'm glad that you found everything to your liking. You're so right, the handy phone is a great travel tool, and one that we're proud to be able to offer our guests as part of the package. Holidays cost a lot--why pay for data, internet connectivity, long distance calls if you don't have to? On behalf of the whole team, we can't thank you enough for taking the time to share your experience at Derwent House here with other travellers--and for your generous recommendation. We'll be looking forward to seeing you back again on a future visit -- and promise you an even better Derwent House then! Sunny greetings from Cape Town to you both, Anahid & the Derwent team

Hello, we never felt unsafe around the hotel. It's a residential area and the hotel has a security guard outside during the night. The walk from the hotel to the restaurants on Kloof Nek Road and Buitengragt Street is short. And Uber is cheap if you feel unsafe. Best wishes
