It’s true - accommodation in Hermanus that offers a beach view is plentiful, but there are few that provide the welcoming hospitality and comfort that The Brown Jug Guest House has. Not only are you welcomed by the owners, Abel and Louise, when you first arrive, but their friendly staff as well as Labradors - Keesha and Tula, and kitties - Squeek and Mikey, are always excited to meet new guests. The Brown Jug is centrally situated in sought-after Eastcliff - a quiet leafy suburb, and is a mere two minute stroll away from the shops, restaurants and seafront where you can enjoy the town’s famous land-based whale watching from the cliff tops. With a pristine garden, comfortable private units, and a sparkling salt water swimming pool, The Brown Jug allows you and your family or group to relax on your private patio or on one of the pool loungers while enjoying the tranquillity of your beautiful surroundings. The Brown Jug’s guest units each sleep between two to four adults and sleeper couches can accommodate a child or two in Units One or Two, with Unit Three being a Studio Room. All the units are individually equipped and each one has a full bathroom, with shower and bath, lounge, dining area, kitchen and comfy plush furniture. Each unit also has a flat screen TV, DSTV and DVD player with free Wi-Fi access – but I doubt you will want to browse on your phone given the variety of activities and places to see that Hermanus has on offer. A short stroll from The Brown Jug will take you to the seafront, the quaint shops and the antique shops that Hermanus is renowned for, and to its fine restaurants for a long lazy lunch overlooking the sea, with the distinct possibility of a whale show. Then there’s the cliff paths, the Marine Tidal pool for a fully energized swim and the Fernkloof Nature Trail with the first of the available walks – The Elephant Walk – a mere 600 meters away. There’s also the Saturday Craft Market where friends (and their pets) meet, and the blue flag beaches that are just five minutes away by car. Mountain bike trails are in abundance and truly magnificent scenery awaits with routes up the valley with clearly marked routes catering to various degrees of expertise. Hike into Fernkloof Nature Reserve or explore the Hemel en Aarde Valley just 6 kilometres away and taste the wines of the region. If you are looking to experience Hermanus from a place catered for families or groups, then The Brown Jug Guest House should be high on your list.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Thank you so much for a wonderful stay! We enjoyed the bath and patio space which was a great bonus! Also appreciated the safe off street parking and the operational lights and TV during load shedding. We really felt right at home and will certainly visit again when we are in Hermanus.

Superb accommodation - we've seldom found such a complete package. The chilly weather prevented us from using all the outside resources. Add to all that, the owners are such a pleasure to chat to. And such an easy walk to shops, restaurants and the seaside.

Louise came to our rescue when our booked accommodation fell through. We had a wonderful week stay, in a beautiful location, close to all amenities. The place was modern, clean, with everything we needed. Would come back in a heartbeat! Thank you for ending our holiday on a high note!

We always love staying at the Brown Jug but this year has been more poignant than ever. When Qatar cancelled our flights almost as soon as we arrive, the wonderful couple Louse and Abel when out of their way to help us. First of all with alternative accommodation when our time with them was up and then welcoming us back when they had space again. With all the worry of getting home it just took the stress out of staying. We've now stayed in all their units and we love them all. The other thing that's great about the Brown Jug is it's position, easy walking distance to the village and the cliff path. We're hoping to get back to then UK after Christmas but in the meantime we're been look after just wonderfully here in Hermanus. Thank you Louise and Abel for all your care and attention and for letting us walk your dog and share your cats.

we stayed in the 2 bed tuxedo junction which was a lovely spacious 2 bed unit. All the rooms lead from the immaculate gardens, and the grounds have a huge pool-much bigger than expected from the photos. The room was very comfortable- super extra large comfortable beds, nice lounge area with an enclosed fire. Nice private outside braai area which can be accessed from both bedrooms. We were met by Louise the friendly owner who showed us round and off road parking was a bonus too. The only negative was you had to access the kitchen through the main bedroom which might be a problem for some, maybe if 2 couples were sharing but not a problem for us as a family. All in all a great find, good value for money and a great location.

We were here for a very short time, but it was enjoyable. The suites have plenty of room to relax and spread out. It's a short walk to the harbor and the Cliff Path Walking Trail, which is a nice place to meander. We left early in the morning for a shark dive and it was a seamless departure.
