Hotel's Favourite
I always try to write reviews that give as much info as possible, in the hope that fellow travellers might find it helpful and get a little more from their well deserved holiday (click the thumbs up at the bottom if you find this helpful please!) split into 3 main sections, this is a 9 minute read. Montana Pine Resort, and a definitive guide to the surrounding area. Accommodation & Grounds What a lovely hotel in a fantastic place! If you have chosen Montana Pine, you have chosen well, we had a lovely holiday here and the staff made it special. Beautifully kept pathways and planting seem to fit seamlessly into the rocky yet lush setting of the surrounding pine forest. Every single member of staff we met, from room maids to management are so friendly, always smiling and always very attentive. Its a little oasis with 3 pools and snack bars, a sunset terrace, a wellness spar, mini market, mini gym and tennis court. There are two main types of accommodation. The rooms to the right of reception tend to be set higher up the steep walkways, almost all of them classed as “standard”. People who experience walking difficulties or mobility issues especially on steep inclines would be advised to ask for lower level rooms, or take the option of a “superior” room. Standard rooms are quite a bit smaller than the superior version, and set amongst the shady trees, that coupled with the wood panelling inside the room (even the ceiling) makes the standard accommodation seem a little dark at first, however the payoff is that your room will be cooler than the ones in full sun, (the remote control air-con helps a lot too). Superior rooms all seem to be to the left of reception on a more level setting and are much more modern looking. There is a fresher feel to the room with lots of clean lines, lighter paintwork, less wood and bigger windows with a view. If like us, you see your room as a big box to keep your clothes in, and 90% of the time spent in there you will have your eyes shut, the standard rooms are perfectly adequate. However the superior rooms are very very nice, and if you prefer petals on your bedsheets, a robe and slippers, a pool view, proper wardrobes and an easier walk back to your room at night, the upgrade may be worth thinking about. Handy hint #1 None of the rooms will have many spare electrical sockets, so Along with your euro adapter, take a short length UK extension cable with a few outlets on it to add more sockets instantly, you can then plug normal UK sockets into the extension and get all those charging cables on the go all at once! Food 1 (All inclusive) When reading reviews, peoples thoughts on food seem to be very divisive, mainly down to personal preferences, so I will keep this short. Of course its a canteen style affair for breakfast lunch and dinner. The canteen is nicely laid out, not cramped at all with both indoor and outdoor tables. Plenty of choice at all mealtimes, always hot, always fresh, even a couple of guys cooking on demand for you! Omelettes, fried eggs to your liking and pancakes at breakfast. Then always grilling or barbecuing something in the evening. Vegetarian offerings always, but caution needed if your are vegan, as some of the vegan offerings especially the deserts were soaked in honey or milk. Handy hint #2 You will not find bacon, or in fact any pork products at all in this hotel for obvious reasons, but if you really can’t do without a full English in a morning, head into Hisaranu for English bacon, pork sausages, Heinz beans and HP sauce and everything else to make it the full works for about £6.00. Food 2 (Eating Out) Its reasonably cheap to eat out, head to Hisaranu rather than the beach front for more choice. A decent meal with a drink will set you back about £15 per head in most bars and restaurants, the food is mostly good. This is the first holiday in a long time that I would use the phrase “a little hit and miss” for the food we were served. Nothing was bad, all fine, but if you are not adventurous with your flavours, a Turkish kebab tends to be a little bland, after all it really is just chicken on a stick! Try the local dishes, they are a little more exciting to the palate, and I recommend the Andolian spicy chicken dish from the Suntrap bar in the centre of Hisaranu High Street. Shopping and Prices Right now (August 2022) the reasonable exchange rate means that eating out, buying gifts, food shopping and having a few drinks are relatively cheap. As always, don’t go for recognisable international branded goods, they do have a premium on them, buy the local or the Turkish version of whatever it is, its all fine if a little different to what you are used to. A big bag of Leys (Walkers crisps) will be around 20 lira or basically a quid (very cheap), a bottle or can of beer from a supermarket around 30 to 35 lira (£1.50) for the local brew (Efes). Cigarettes are ridiculously cheap from a supermarket at around 40 lira (£2.00ish) for 20. Bars and pubs charge around 50 to 55 lira for a pint of local brew which is about £2.50/£2.75 a pint. You will be able to get something like Carling or Guinness along with a choice of ciders, but at over £5.00 a pint, the local Efes was good enough for us! Buying gifts is a right laugh! All of the goods you will see are complete and blazon knock-offs, yes they are amazingly cheap, but trading standards would have a field day if it were in any other country. For example you can buy a pair of Christian Dior sunglasses from (a shop called) Harrods for £25.00…… yeah… right? Handy Hint #3 Confused by the money? Dont be! As long as the exchange rate is around the 20 lira to the pound mark… just do this quick calculation for a round about price. Take the price of the product, halve it, then move the decimal point to the left, thats how many pounds it will cost you. So 400 lira, in half = 200, decimal to the left is 20.0, so £20.00. It works a treat until you realise that the 5 lira note in your hand is worth about 22p! Its also very unusual to get coins in your change, we never saw a single coin all week, so expect to be either rounded up or rounded down to the nearest 5 lira, or make a tip! Handy Hint #4 Its a little risky, but its quite possible that you will get a better exchange rate for GBP when you are over here than pre buying in the UK before you arrive. Even if it doesn’t work out that way, most shops will take both sterling and euros, so you will never be left without a method of payment, however we never tried this in bars or restaurants. Local Area, Getting Around & Things To Do Using Montana Pine as your base, moving around is simple….. use a Taxi! It might look walkable, but trust me, the inclines are deceptive and the heat and humidity very hostile to do anything too strenuous. A short walk down to the security gate and just beyond, you will see a wooden hut with a picnic bench underneath. Ask the security guard for a taxi, he will press a button in his box and hey presto, within 5 minutes a taxi appears at the bench! There are two main areas of interest, plus one a little distance away if you want to venture a little further. Ask for Oludeniz (£4.00ish for up to 4 people) if you fancy a day on the beach or ask for Hisaranu (about £2.50) if you are out on the town for the evening. Oludeniz A long stretch of small pebble beachfront where you will find plenty of watersports and lots of stands to book experiences like jeep safaris and paragliding. A small amount of shops and places to eat, quite low key and laid back compared to Hisaranu town. Bit of a strange set up regarding money and paying for things down here. Once you are on the beach itself, or visiting the shops and restaurants along the promenade (not the town area) you have to have a “Lagoon card” which you preload with money to use during your stay on the beach. Then everything from your sun lounger to bottles of water are charged to the card. At the end of the day, you cash your card in at the end booth, and any remaining money is paid back to you in cash. There must be a reason for it, but I couldn’t see what it actually was! Hisaranu (Town) Bright lights, loud music, fun atmosphere, we had some brilliant nights out here. Lots and lots of open air bars and restaurants all along a main high street which is pedestrianised during the evening. Cocktails, Karaoke, fake goods shopping and all sorts of entertainment to be found here. I wont recommend any, there are far too many, but look to where people have already gathered, they tend to be the better ones as folk often vote with their feet. Fethiye Its quite a trek to here from Montana Pine, but here you will find sunset boat trips from the harbour, and sandy rather than pebble beaches (there are both). Its a little more urban, you will see cemeteries, residential streets, grocery stores and a more normal set of shops like hardware, furniture, and electrical stores. It has a gritty, back to basics feel about it, but it is genuine and still a pleasant trip if you do want to see it all. Mosquitoes, Bugs, and can I drink the water? Mosquitoes are present here, but not in problematic numbers. A simple deet or citronella wrist band should do the trick, but if you are like me and get eaten alive by the little blighters, get the friendship bracelet type and tie one on your ankle as well as your wrist. Handy Hint #5 I get bled dry by mosquitoes, but it really helps if you start taking a course of over the counter antihistamine tablets a few days before you travel and during your stay, as the medication for swelling, itching and discomfort will already be in your body. I have also found over the years that bongela (yes the mouth ulcer gel) works far better than any bite cream or spray if you do get a troublesome one, also Skin so Soft Dry Oil spray from Avon, is as good a repellent than any brand that claim to be the best, both fishermen and the Army swear by it! Back at Montana Pine, you will notice the constant chirping of the Cicadas, personally I think its a wonderful, tropical sound, but I can see how it could annoy some people. Its simple, just remember they were here first, you are coming into their space not the other way around, and if you need silence to sleep, take some decent earplugs! Bottled water is plentiful and free in resort but if you need to buy any outside of Montana Pine, it is cheap. While the local water from the tap would be just fine to drink, just stick to the bottled stuff to avoid any tummy troubles, as its mineral content is vastly different to ours, and could potentially cause an upset. All in all, Montana Pine Resort is one of the best in this price bracket, and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. Please remember that service staff in Turkey earn very little compared to the UK, so, even though its not demanded or expected, please tip often and tip well, they will really appreciate it.

It was my first stay at the hotel. Food and drinks are of high quality. The location and view of the hotel are magnificent. I was very happy that the colleagues who worked the hardest were respectful. I would especially like to thank Mr. Uğur and his team. Open to new ideas. I can recommend it with pleasure.

This was our third visit to Montana Pine Resort. We were last there 14 and 15 years ago when the resort was on a half board basis. All inclusive is not our usual option and we were sceptical about the stand of food and drinks. We read the reviews and went with an open mind. I must say the resort grounds and pool were well maintained and tendered. Sun beds were not problem to find. Our room was as we asked for and was kept in good order by the cleaner. All the staff worked very hard but still smiled. We both thought the food was to our tastes. The breakfast, lunch and dinner were very good. Yes, like most Hotels, the food menu does not alter from week to week, but we enjoyed every meal. Always found something that suited us. The drinks were at a good standard. Which surprised us? The head barman at the Lobby bar and his staff worked extremely hard to serve everyone. Well done. Thoroughly enjoyed the live music shows. We are again returning in May. So that says it All.

This is possibly the loveliest hotel I have ever stayed in. It may not be as glamorous as some but it has the most wonderful, peaceful, relaxing vibe. We spoke to lots of other guests who had returned time and time again - and we can see why! In fact we are not booked to return next May When we arrived we were so touched by the beautiful fruit basket and wine in our room to celebrate our anniversary. Such a lovely touch. The room was gorgeous but sadly we had to move as my mobility is limited and I struggled with the steep walk up hill to our block. The front desk manager was so considerate and moved us to a disabled access room with a wet room which was close to reception and restaurant. It also was right next to the lovely Dolphin pool - an idea place to sit in the sun with a drink and a book. The rooms are comfortable and clean - the cleaning staff are amazing and nothing is ever too much trouble. There are 3 pools - all very tranquil with plenty of sun loungers plus a bar at each pool. Food wise - a little limited to be honest but decent and well cooked. Would like to see a little more variation. Highly recommend the a la carte poolside meal - its an extra £15 and well worth the money for 5 courses, served at the poolside in the early evening by candlelight. Also recommend the boat trips - the hotel has its own boat with a maximum capacity of around 14 i think - you get spoiled rotten by the crew with lovely food and drink and plenty of opportunities to jump in for a swim The hotel photographer is amazing - thank you so much for the awesome set of photos which are a stunning reminder of a truly wonderful holiday. Make sure you book in with him for an evening photography session - you will not be disappointed See you next year!!

I don’t know where to start so I will list the positive first Lovely different setting with unusual rooms all set in the mountain with lovely views. The garden and pools surrounding were clean and tidy The rooms were adequate and clean. The evening entertainment was one of the best I’ve seen at any hotel in a long time. This hotel with improvements could be amazing however unfortunately bad management is letting the hotel go down hill. Firstly the food is probably one of the worse I’ve seen it’s all cold or lukewarm far to much food cooked all out at once sitting in silver warm dishes drying out, the food doesn’t match and you can’t make a meal out of the dishes served, cheap ingredients are used to much sweetcorn put in everything. Food from the night before reused the next day Poor selection of puddings Coffee machine kept breaking and the plates etc had lots of chips in them would of been nice to have proper napkins at night. Lunchtime snack bar again cold food lazy barman and non speaking staff i asked them to make me a hot pizza for lunch which they did but they should offer this services all the time also food un covered behind the counter going cold with flys around it. This was my biggest issue with the place and had this not happened I would probably of let all the other things go but here are my complaints 1. Holes in my bath towels in room 2. Room not cleaned by 4.30 so had to ring to get it done 3. 2 cups one saucer in my room and not cleaned for 2 days had to ask for teabags sugar 4. Towels for pool are left in your room forgot to leave them 2 days again had to ring reception 5. Non English speaking staff very hard to communicate to them what you wanted 6 Staff serving drinks behind bar who didn’t know how to make certain drinks 7 All the staff on there phones no customer service st all 8. Running out of drinks and all they kept saying was it’s near the end of the season 9. Entertainment staff seem to play pool or football with each other most of the day and in the evening were meant to get people up to dance however one member of staff danced with the same women for the whole 10 days didn’t interact with other holiday makers. Had they learnt how to do water aerobic class they might have got more takers and even though the kid was nice he didn’t have a clue. 10. Went to the al a carte evening around the pool was enjoying it when the music had to be turned off as the evening entertainment was starting in another area no one ate the appertiser as it was awful even the cat refused the fish the rest of the meal was nice but I asked for no tomato in my salad which is all chopped up and no understanding so got a bowlful of salad with tomatoes in then I picked a nice bottle of wine but they had ran out so choose another one which I had so order another bottle but that had then run out also only one person to serve 18 people he was run off his feet lovely waiter but felt sorry for him. Lots of staff were leaving as near end of season so they were very short staff. Overall I really liked the place and so wanted to go back but no one is supervising staff and food not great however after lots of complaining by people the food slightly improved Customer Service is a must on holiday and this needs a massive improvement.

A group of 12 of us visited this hotel. Wow such a fantastic place, beautiful surroundings, beautiful rooms. Staff are very friendly and a good choice of food & drink. Occasionally a wait for drinks but nothing more than wait times at any typical UK pub. Entertainment was brilliant and good variety. The only downside would be the pools, 3 different pools but they were all freezing, as they are not heated, this could be down to the time of year.

Absolutely beautiful location in the mountains. Rooms dark and dated. Kettle leaked everywhere so never used it. The shower attachment flew off across the shower cubicle on first use but just left it in the bathroom but could have been dangerous. The balcony was tiny even for 2 people. I spoke to a few people who had visited before who said the resort had gone downhill. Unfortunately I found the service dreadful apart from Mustafa who was great. Cutlery missing, coffee machine out of order and coffee awful when it was working. I had to get my own drinks queuing at the restaurant bar, no one asked for a drinks order. Food was ok but very samey and should have been hotter. One fella behind the bar most days and never saw him smile once. The outside sofas were old and uncomfortable as were the hard wooden chairs in the dining room. Beautiful setting and Olu Deniz is beautiful but definitely wouldn't stay at Montana Pine again. Definitely not a 4* in my opinion.

We went to this resort based on the reviews on trip advisor and also the experience we had here 10 years ago. Don’t understand how it has four and a half stars on trip advisor. Don’t know how Tui can grade this resort as platinum, must be going on old inspections and reviews. Check in was quick. We arrived 1pm so got changed and went to the bottom pool. Most of the parasols were rusted and not working properly. Went to the top pool 2nd day where beds and parasols were much better. Food was always tepid or cold. Chips are hot as they are cooked fresh in front of you, also fresh noodle some nights. Soup was usually hot …not always. Food containers were always cold. Ate out some nights to get hot meal. Very little choice in desserts, same every day. Some of the chairs in the dining room were dangerous with nails sticking out of them, informed waiters but nothing done about it. Lots of chipped cups and bowls. One of the hotel cats got on a table and was sitting on the cutlery, a waitress eventually came and removed it but didn’t bother to reset the table. One guy in a waistcoat, don’t know if he was overseeing the restaurant, but he spent most of his time on the phone and did nothing. Spoke to other people who had been there many times before and they told us they would not be back as it had gone downhill since the old manager had retired. Bar staff at top pool bar poorly trained, drinks never made the same, tables rarely wiped. Glasses dirty ….use a straw. The things that were good about the hotel ….Location is very nice. Liked our room. Lady who cleaned our room was lovely. Entertainment was v.good. Gardens are kept nice. Lovely views from sunset bar. Liked the fact that taxis were available at the bottom of the drive . Check the prices on the board and make sure you ask the taxi driver before getting in as some will charge you more when you get to your destination.
