I had such a horrible experience at this hostel. I booked 4 nights in a private ensuite via Hosteworld, 2 months before my trip, and I payed 10% in advance for that. However, when I got there with my boyfriend in the middle of the night, the staff had no idea about our coming. It means our booking hadn’t been...

I based myself on Lonely Planet to book my staying with Gecko. I do not know what room and bathroom LP got presented but it was most definitely not the same I got. Rooms are small and with so many beds in it that you hardly have any space to put your luggage. Because there was no possibility of fresh...

I had a great time at Gecko. I have been to BA 3 times and always enjoyed myself at Gecko. Staff is very helpful and always ready to help with suggestions with things to do and how to get there. Location (Palermo Hollywood) is great with easy access to all transportation and excellent night life. Rooms were clean and quiet.....

It is upon entering Gecko Hostel that the overriding feeling of disappointment first strikes you. The sense that, whilst the Lonely Planet quotes it as being the cheapest hostel in Palermo and flatters it with the description of being ‘artsy’ and ‘funky’, it is, in fact, not as cheap as the LP says it is, and the ‘artsy / funky’...

I've been to many hostels in my time and this is by far the worst. We stayed there for one night following the delay of our flight. For the same price (or perhaps for a little more), there are far better options. The hostel is old, dirty and run down. A lack of toilets and looks and feels like a...

went to palermo after a few nights in the microcenter and only stayed here one night because the staff was not welcoming at all. they had to personally let you in and out with a key (no buzzer system here) and even if they saw you waiting there with your bags they'd take their time. also, no internet in the...

After staying at Hostal Parada (which is good if you want to stay in the city center) we wanted to stay in Palermo on our way back through BA... This hostel has a great location in Palermo, close to Las Canitas (go eat in that area... Delicious) and it has a great common room/bar area with a pool table &...

Eventhough the common area is nice and you can meet nice people there, the stay in the Gecko Hostel was not very relaxing. This was mostly due to the very unclean toilets/bathrooms and the uninviting room with hanging cables and stone floor. I think there should be better hostels in the area.

I found Gecko when I was looking for BsAs Hostels, specifically in Palermo, and was impressed with the swift email communications. When I stayed at Gecko, the residents were very diverse, which if you're looking for like-minded travelers is helpful; but in my case, gave me a great group of people to chill with during my stay. Juan, Cecilia and...

Staying in Palermo

Neighbourhood Profile
Best known as the largest neighbourhood in Buenos Aires, Palermo is divided into different quarters, each with its own unique identity. The high-end quarter is Palermo Chico, characterized by magnificent mansions, regal avenues, and exclusive apartment buildings, and home to the Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires (MALBA), a favourite amongst locals. The largest park in the city, the Bosques de Palermo, is Palermo's most famous landmark and a popular destination for nature walks, picnics, rollerblading, and cycling. The scene becomes much trendier in Palermo Soho, a hip area known for its cool cafés and unique design stores, filled with shoppers on weekends; and Palermo Hollywood, renowned for the numerous restaurants, bars and nightclubs, which make it the preferred spot for nights out and special occasions.
