We arrived early and only found out our reservation was booked on the wrong month! Luckily we were there off peak season so getting a bed is not a problem and the receptionist was very kind to upgrade us to private room (by the courtyard) with no extra fees. We were also given access to the room although we were... More

This was the top choice in the lonely planet guidebook but didn't live up to it. Rooms are nice, quite average, there was hot water in one of the showers so a bit of a queue. We checked out early and then you are charged to leave your bags in the lockers but also an extra 70 pesos each just... More

I only stayed here one night, but really liked it for the lovely building, comfortable beds and good, clean facilities. The breakfast was simple, but certainly better than what I had in most hostels in Argentina - bread, eggs, juice, tea/coffee. Staff were really nice and helpful. Location was decent. Free wifi, but didn't work so well in rooms. I... More

This hostel came recommended in the Rough Guide, and did live up to all the book promised: it's in a picturesque old mansion house, with an enormous supermarket opposite. Perfect for self catering and with all the necessary facilities. However, I discovered that just about every other hostel in Mendoza offers free wine in the evenings; something severely lacking at... Followed the Lonely Planet recommendation against the reviews on the internet. I regret it now. First, I don't like false advertising: when you say swimming pool, it should be an actual swimming pool and not a bath tub with filthy water in it. Really it was like this! Second, the receptionist was unfriendly. I can't tell why, but I fell... More

This is the second time we have stayed at Hostal Alamo. We find the Hostal to be friendly and the staff very helpful, they speak English if you are struggling with Spanish. Great location, supermarket and ATM nearby. We stayed in a premium room in the courtyard, good size room but very small bathroom. The weather was extremely hot while... More

Hostel Alamo was in a nice spot in town, overall it could have been a pleasant place to stay in Mendoza, however the female receptionist Valeria had the most unprofessional, unfriendly, unhelpful and unapologetic demeanour. Based on her alone I would strongly recommend NOT TO STAY AT HOSTEL ALAMO. We asked her if we could reserve tickets to the Grape... More

I went on two trips with this hostel: one to two wineries and an olive oil factory and one horse riding with an asado. They were both fantastic and I met lovely people. The hostel is clean with a decent breakfast and hang out areas. The pool is clean but tiny and no one seems to bother getting into it... More

My boyfriend and I arrived at the hostel at 7am and were told that the only thing available for that night was a private but we could switch to the dorm for the next night. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to Our Hostel...Bienvenidos! Hostel Alamo is among the most recent additions to Mendoza's hostel circuit. Once a family residence, we have renovated this beautiful and spacious home into a modern 14-bedroom hostel, while maintaining the integrity and charm of its original colonial style. The house was built in 1944 by the late architect Daniel Ramos Correa, who has made many significant architectural contributions to Mendoza, including participation in the city's main square, Plaza Independencia, and the Frank Romero Day Ampitheater, where the National Grape Harvest (Vendimia) Celebration is held annually. The lovely enclosed garden, terraces, fireplaces, and numerous windows throughout help to create the positive and cozy environment that is Hostel Alamo. Ideal Location...Hostel Alamo is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Mendoza, just a few blocks away from the main shopping and dining district. Literally just around the corner you’ll find one of the city’s newest and finest supermarkets, a bank, an internet and telephone cafe, a laundry facility, souvenir shops, kiosks, and a gas station, just to name a few.By car, we are merely 10 minutes from el Parque San Martín, 15 minutes from the bus terminal and 25 minutes from Mendoza’s Francisco Gabrielli Airport (better known as El Plumerillo). Our Mission...Hostel Alamo is owner-operated and together with our bilingual team, we strive to provide our guests with the highest standard of customer service with a personal touch. We make every effort to maintain a clean, comfortable, and relaxing atmosphere where our guests will always feel welcome and safe. Join us!...We hope you'll stay with us as you discover the natural wonders of Mendoza, Argentina and the rich culture of her people. Whether you wish to taste a typical Mendocinian Malbec during a tour of one of the city’s numerous bodegas, or spend the day in the mountains skiing or hiking, it would be our pleasure to arrange any excursion for you right here at Hostel Alamo.Or if you prefer, relax in our garden while you read a book and soak in some Argentinean sun, prepare an elaborate meal in our kitchen, or just stretch out on our sofa and enjoy a movie from our international DVD collection. However you plan to enjoy yourself in Mendoza, we hope you’ll allow Hostel Alamo to be your home away from home! ... more   less

“Having a private room with private bathroom is nice but since the entire place is cleaned daily I don't think it would be off putting to share a bathroom or dorm. It depends on the experience you would like. Dorms require a bit of socializing (lockers are available to store items while gone) shared bathrooms require patience with other guests. What do you value more: privacy or company? Either way your experience will be memorable.”
