We stayed 3 nights at Hotel Himalaya and it was pretty decent and clean hotel. Despite being close to the main road, it was quiet and also features good space as garden area so you can take a stroll inside the hotel premises.

The staffs are helpful but not attentive enough, as I always had to wave at them and ask for coffee during breakfast (that's three times). The room we stayed had a analog thermostat controller which we weren't sure was working as expected because there wasn't any difference when setting it to 20 or 25 degree Celsius. The hotel has two elevators and one had some funny smell I didn't personally like.

The buffet breakfast was nice with wide range of selection from sweet to savory, and their pastry items were good compared to most in Nepal. Can't say the same about coffee though, as it always had different taste.

We paid with cash so not sure about how easy it would be with cards and all. Overall a decent hotel but for the price you could do better as there were hotels I've stayed in for much lower price and of same quality service and cleaning.

We stayed at the Hotel Himalaya the first two days of our trip to Nepal. Well, the views are great. The location is mediocre on an extremely busy road which isn’t very walkable to many restaurants or sites. The condition of the hotel really called for many updates, including mildew smells hard beds that need replacement and poor condition of the bathrooms. The restaurant at the hotel is fine for breakfast, but at other times was incredibly expensive, about three times the cost of a similar meal outside the hotel. I’m sure the hotel was great at one point but now it feels like it really needs a renovation to get up to the standards of some of the hotels in other parts of town such as the Aloft in Thamel, where we moved for the rest of our trip.

Overall, Hotel Himalaya is a nice hotel. The breakfast buffet is delicious and the staff are friendly and helpful. The beds are also very comfortable. However, the WiFi and room keys were a constant source of frustration. The WiFi goes in and out frequently, and each space (lobby, restaurant, floors...etc) in the hotel has a different WiFi source and password. As well, my room key card stopped working midway through my stay and instead of replacing it, hotel staff had to escort me to my door each time with a master key. Very frustrating. Normally I don't complain about these things, but if the hotel is going to keep charging as much as they do for rooms, they need to make some upgrades.

We went to there to celebrate my sister’s wedding. We were quite busy as we are from beside side. I check everything to make sure everything is on place. I checked toilet which is very dirty and request cleaner to clean and put some more toilet roles which they didn’t do later when I used toilet. When food was served there is some food running out I asked the staff, where is meat?? Then staff replied if it is not there than finished, wow what a good answer and same answer I received later when I ask dessert. Trust me I am the organiser and receiving like that answer. When my sister and we are eating food we found some rice are not cooked very well I requested waiter to call banquet manager and he came and rush to check the rice but his replied is rice is cooked there is no problem so this is all our mistake to complain that it’s not cooked properly. When all food has been served at ground but still our wedding hasn’t finished they start taking chairs when we are still there and our guest need to stand and some of them are old people as well. This is utterly nonsense which I hasn’t seen anywhere else.
This is not 5 star hotel, It looks like just star hotel. Please if you want to organise any party or Wedding make sure they treat you well. Otherwise you will feel shamed.

A really comfortable hotel, stayed here for a few days at the beginning of a tour and then returned for a few days again at the end of the holiday. All the staff without exception were very friendly, caring and couldn’t do enough for you from the restaurant manager to hotel manager down the the cleaning staff. The hotel is an oasis of calm in a very busy city. The buffet breakfast was first class in a really pleasant restaurant and all meals offered were of a very high standard. We were located in the 3000 rooms on both occasions and they were a large size and comfortable. A really great stay!

We booked rooms for a group of twenty (20) people for a nine day stay in Kathmandu. The group really enjoyed their stay at Hotel Himalaya. From the first contact with the transport drivers to the hotel until the final goodbye, we were greeted with smiles and helpful people. The hotel is very relaxing and clean and a very welcome respite from the busy city. We enjoyed dinner every night in the hotel restaurant and the staff and chef were exceptional in their care of us. The accommodations were extremely nice and provided a relaxing, refreshing rest every night. We would highly recommend this hotel for anyone traveling to Kathmandu, they will make you feel comfortable and take care of you very well.

Stayed at this property as part of a wedding function.

Location is very convenient and the Patan Durbar Square is walkable about 1.5 kms.
The buffet spread is very exaustive and satisfactory to many global palletes.
The reception staff is courteous and checkin process is smooth.
Room is big and view is great.

too many staff in the breakfast buffet area.
Staff at concierge and room service need more training and courtsey.
Property is old and requires maintenace at places.

If you need a convenient location to stay this property may be considered.

Enjoy Nepal... land of Nature, Himalayas and Temples

I had a wonderful stay in this property for approximately 4 nights!
The hotel has a beautiful landscape with spacious rooms and greenery, giving it a resort feel unlike any other city hotels.
Also the staff is professional and empathetic with an eye to perfection to match the expected service standards!
Also, what made the difference was the out of the box service standard provided by the front office executive, Ms. Ranjita who offered us a complimentary drop to the airport which actually speaks a lot about the warm and hospitable gesture of the team.
Thank you and I look forward to visiting you soon!

Finally I can travel to broadly again after the pandemic. The last time I was in Kathmandu is Feb 2020.
I checked into Hotel Himalaya this time as it offers good quality. I was pleasantly surprised this time, noticing improvements to the property - new decorative wall in the garden, revised lobby with a fountain in centre, well kept room, one new lift, the hotel did not deteriorate like many others.
The bar is being renovated still, and it was in good condition when I checked in with my colleague.
Food in the cafe still offer good quality.
Room is nice and clean with only one defect - the bath room sliding door that's rubbing against the wall.
Overall my colleague and I had a pleasant stay.
Recommended.

The service, employees and the hospitality is top notch! This was my 3rd visit to Hotel Himalaya and to no surprise, the consistency they have in service and food quality is just incredible. Saral from Basecamp Bar has always been very welcoming and vigilant, making sure I get my preferred coffee first as soon as I reach the bar, an obvious 10/10 👌
