Would have given a higher score if the chateau hadn’t ruined part of our holiday and cost us a fortune, as we had to stay a night in a hotel, buy new blow up beds and sleeping bags. Very worried that their incompetence in food hygiene could kill a vulnerable person
Booked a 16 night stay in September, stunning unspoilt location right on the river bank, about 3 kilometers out of Argentat. Nicely presented and comfortable cottage style van. After six days the site team tried to move us to another site as they were expecting a large influx of university students for a freshers style week end party, although there had been no mention at check in. We declined to move as we were well settled. It was anything but peaceful over the week end, with a rock band and dance music through the night. However the students were very friendly and polite. All tranquility returned at lunch time on Sunday when we waved them off. A larger party of medical students arrive for our last weekend for a repeat performance!
This is a really beautiful place. It is owned and operated by Sea Green which has 6 other campsite that it boasts as exquisite. The restaurant is basically a fly infested over priced burger bar. The service is terrible. Our waiter was either stoned or very forgetful but definitely rude abd had no interest in serving food. There was a lot of hangers on, friends of staff having free run of the site. I noticed that staff were giving food and drink to their dreadlocked friends of whom were obviously not paying guests. One guy with home made a tattoos on his face became threatening and abusive towards us and had no respect for people enjoying their holidays He was part of a party of people parrying at the expense of clients and was actually the camping maintenance guy. Nothing in the supermarket, staff would turn away customers at 22:30hrs saying that they were closing the bar and forcing people back o their caravans. Its was most certainly the worst camping that i have visited in France in the 25 years that i have spent touring. The whole place was dirty and the sevice was totally disfunctional Sea Green Camping you should hang your head in shame. But dont believe me, check out the photos.…
The upside is the location with lots of shade, particularly when hot! We turned up on spec and even in August found lots of space. No camp site should allow dogs, particularly in France. We witnessed French dog owners walking their dogs away from their own pitches, happily watching their dogs Crap near other people’s tents. Near children’s play areas. Disgusting, but very acceptable to French people! The toilet and shower blocks were not adequate or serviced enough. People left them in a terrible state most of the time. Mind you, this has more to say about the clients than the site. On Saturday night they have a rock and roll disco type thing which pumps out noisy awful music until midnight. The closer you are to the Chateau, the worse it it, but even in the furthest corner, you can’t escape it. …
What I didn't like: Nothing What I liked: Pretty much everything. We stayed in a Riviera caravan for a week and got a really good feel of the place. The setting is quiet and in the forest yet there were few insects and Argentat was only a short drive away. In Argentat there are 3 large supermarkets and a few smaller artisan shops. We mostly cooked in the caravan so the shop were important. The site has plenty of table tennis tables, a tennis court and a heated, outdoor swimming pool. We were there at the end of August and the place was not that busy so I can't say how busy the facilities are at peak occupancy. When we stay for the last week of August, there was never an issue using any facility. The canoes, kayaks and paddle boards are a good deal. As a family, you pay €50 for the week which give each family member unlimited use of all the water items. The camping is under new management and the staff were excellent. A young and dedicated team that did everything they could to make our stay fun and enjoyable. The was one of the best camping sites I have ever stayed in and I would go again in a heartbeat.…
