Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

During our 17 day journey in Iceland, we stayed here for 1 night. Accommodation was nice, and that's where it ends. The food and coffee were in different locations. No coffee in room. The owner told us it was a 5-6 min. ride between the two facilities. It was at least 15 min. on a rutted gravel road. The owner is not very much of a host. Very cold personality. Now for the worst part, the food. We spent $138 for breakfast and dinner (2 people). Here is what we got. We arrived for dinner at the designated time. Then we had to wait nearly an hour because another group was late. The dinner was served buffet style. They had chicken, pork, and lamb. It was so overcooked it was like eating shoe leather. Definitely the worst meal we had in Iceland. Maybe the worst meal anywhere. Breakfast was a cold buffet, and it was an improvement over the dinner. BTW, Booking.com's reviews are skewed. If you send in a negative review they will not post it. Stick with independent reviews.

NOTE: Mine is a vote aimed only at the good will of the two retired owners of the structure. A pure and simple judgment in the services offered certainly does not reach sufficienty. Very naive accomodation. The house of the owners with the three single rooms of the daughters ( who are now adults no longer live with their parents), user as guest rooms. Shared bathroom for three double rooms. The rooms are very small, without privacy: at the top there is and opening that makes everything that is said in one room is heard in the others !! Breakfast under the essential, expecially for the quantity. Excessive price for what is offered (160 euros for a night in two people). We are not really there.

Great place in the middle of nowhere to catch a good nights sleep and enjoy a delicious breakfast. Reasonably priced, USD $85 for two with sleeping bags. Close to Dettifoss Waterfalls and onward to Lake Myvatta Lake area. Nice folks who operate. Can have choice of older residence or newer facilities.

Tell the truth we didn´t sleep here. We missed our prepayed one -day stay because my son falled ill and we had to stay in previous apartement one day longer. In spite of the fact we tryed to accomodate here next day. Unfortunately the hotel was full but the lady was very friendly and helpful and offered us to stay in her old house (we had our own sleeping bags). It was for about 9p.m. and we were hungry - she recommended us to ask for dinner in neighboring hotel. So we had dinner, excellent accomodation and above that she returned us the payment for our missed stay. It is an extraordinary place with extraordinary kind and friendy people. Our dear madam, thank you!

Very nice room. It was clean and appeared to be brand new. It's in the middle of no where which for us was a plus. It's on the east road leading to Dettifoss. We got a good night sleep on comfortable beds. The only things that kept us from giving it 5 stars are: 1. It's small. Really small. Like we can't fit our luggage in there small. I know Europe has smaller rooms, but even by European standards these rooms were small. 2. The check in is 6km aware from the hotel where we stayed. It was a bit confusing. We go to one place to check in and then have to get back in and drive to the spot you were just at to get your room.

Hello there, from the description of your location you have been staying at Hólssel which is not part of Grimsstadir Guesthouse. It is Grimstunga Guesthouse that you have been staying at. Two different accomodations close to each other. Looks like you have put your review on wrong guesthouse. sincerely, Arnar M (Grimsstadir Guesthouse)

We enjoyed our stay at this special location very much! The host went the extra mile to make us feel comfortable. The accommodation was great, as the breakfast. The farm is located close to Detifoss and perfect to stay there the night before exploring the area. Will definitely come back when in the area

We were here beginning of March and were the only people there. We stayed with the owners in their house. Almost felt like staying with your grandparents. Freshly baked breakfast with meat home smoked meat and home made jam. Only stayed one night but could have easily stayed for more. The Myvatn nature baths are only half an hour away by car. We were told that in summer more people can stay in another farmhouse and campsite. Probably a very different atmosphere but undoubtedly equally amazing.

We have spend Christmas night at Grimsstadir Guesthouse when we got caught by snowstorm. The owners did accommodate us without previous reservation when they found out we got stuck in snow and walked 3 miles just to find a shelter. They offered us a place, which although it wasn't prepared to have guests, as it's only open during summer, was clean, well looked after and warm. They also helped us to tow our car and made sure that we got safely back on the road in the morning. Such a amazing and fantastic people. The guesthouse was big. Had all amenities needed, extremely comfortable memory foam beds and lovely big bathroom with shower and separate bath. We would most definitely recommend this place to everywhere. Once the weather cleared the view was simple stunning and the surrounding area amazing.

The house, location and the warm welcome by Sigga and her husband were stunning. The breakfast one of the best we had during our trip to Iceland. Perfect if you want to visit Askja. Do not confuse with Grimstunga. My girlfriend and I loved it.

I stayed with Sigga for one night back in 2014. I arrived late, tired, and went straight to bed. I woke up to fresh bed, freshly picked blueberries, cured lamb, smoked salmon, and a spread of cheese. It was simple, homey, and loving. I haven't talked to Sigga since my trip, and I am not sure if she would remember me, but I never forgot the hospitality she showed me that day. It felt like I was at my grandma's house. I also was able to meet her son, who also was a very nice guy. Thank you, Sigga! I will never forget you and hope to see you again some day!
