So we were confined to our 5km zone last week and usually I have a Christmas lunch with my friends where we go out; instead we were going to be on zoom. I thought now where would be really, really special! We have always enjoyed going to the Ghan house for special occasions, including with the group I was due to meet online. We had also heard great reports through my sea-swimming group and other neighbours of this great facility. I could not just order lunch for myself as we are 4, in two households so this option worked very well as I divided them on the Friday night and we ate them as suited us! This was not a stay unfortunately but a pickup! As suggested, I ordered the breakfast pie for Sunday brunch to extend the feeling of having a special weekend and it was truly wonderful. My dear late mother-in-law used to make just such a pie which we all remember fondly, this was even better. Using the oven to bake the meals was very easy and the instructions were great. I really loved opening the cardboard box and finding a surprise bouquet of herbs for a scented table decoration; what a clever and novel idea. We enjoyed our Take it Away meal so very much from this establishment. It is too hard to choose our favourite dish; all excellent. The pastry in the scallop tart was SO light, it was a great treat. Like going to a VERY swish French restaurant, that wonderful buttery crumbly pastry. The spicy chicken soup was superb and reminded me of the wonderful cuisine of Vietnam I was lucky enough to enjoy some years ago before lockdown! The lamb in the hotpot was tender, tasty and the jus!!!! "Better than my mother's", says my husband. Better than mine, I know for sure, though it had a real homecooked flavour. The sponge pudding was light and delicious, the custard luxurious and the cheescake with Earl Grey the best I have ever tasted. The chocolate-marshmallow lollipops were great fun and so indulgent. We enjoyed this so much we have ordered for this weekend, even though it is not a special one, it is now! Truly charmed with this week's menu, full of gourmet surprises. We have ordered THREE turkey pies, two to freeze for Christmas Storecupboard and a large quantity of mince pies. 'Tis the season...to be #outdoors , #treet ing ourselves to #takeaway @ghanhouse again this #weekend . #Treecheers !#treeplanters #march on their stomachs! #BEST #meal of the #covid_19 #lockdown #foodwaste #zero #lol, #heavenly #food and #greatvalue . Great #views of @carlingfordire even from the car park here: #checkout their #trees reflected in the #pond#love it! @visitcarlingford

Hi Paul We would like to thank you, Orla, Darragh and Sarah for all your help organizing our wedding. We had a wonderful day from start to finish. Our guests were equally impressed by Ghan House and all the staff from the moment they arrived. They all say they will definitely return. Once again thanks a million we are delighted that we chose Ghan House and hope to see you soon when you reopen for a meal. Regards Mike and Jane

We got married on the 9th of October, just a few days after the country went in to level 3 and our wedding may not have gone ahead if hadn't been for the team at Ghan House. As you can imagine the days leading up to our wedding were stressful to say the least, having to cut our numbers to 25 at the last minute was less than ideal. A quick phone call with Sarah put us a ease, everything was in hand. Our day went off without a hitch, we didn't have to worry about a single thing. Even though the team at Ghan were fully compliant with regulations and all of our guests were kept safe, it didn't feel like the pandemic overshadowed our day at all. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal, there were clean plates all round! The setting was perfect, it was full of love, exactly how we wanted it to be.

I had the great pleasure of spending one night in this wonderful, relaxed hotel, wishing the exigencies of my visit would have allowed me more time there. The staff and Paul were gracious and reassuring, and the village is in one of the most beautiful areas of Ireland. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
