Some rooms appear to be more or less archetypical hotel rooms while others have their own little quirks, although they all have the basic requirements, it's the little extras that can make it interesting. People who have trouble with stairs should of course ask for a downstairs room. The food is excellent although in common with just about every hotel...

Last time we had curry night here was not good! Food felt heavy and it was cold! Since then we heard they have a new chef so decided to go for another curry night! It was opposite to last time! Food was excellent and didn't feel heavy and cold! We all enjoyed the meal and will be coming back for...

Stayed for 2 nights recently at The Bear as I was attending a seminar / course being held in the syndicate room. The hotel was easy to find being at the end of the High Street in Hungerford with a reasonable sized car park This is pay and display but is free to hotel guests. I had a room at...

We had a lovely experience on arrival and the reception was excellent. Our room was on Bear Island so involved a little walk away form the main building. The room was clean and tidy but small as was the TV which I couldn't see if over the other side if the room. Tea and coffee facilities were good and a...

Tired in places, had an upstairs Superior room in the Garden overlooking Bear Island. Steps were steep, room was large overlooked the garden at the back with a lovely stream running through it. No central heating and they couldn't turn it on because the manager wasn't present. It was was the 29th September!. They supplied a small heater when asked....

Outstanding from checking in with reception to checking out the following day.Lovely warm welcome. Room changed easily and with no fuss, as my wife did not want to stay in the annex. Room was spacious, warm and comfortable, bathroom was well equipped, lovely big bath!! We ate in the bar as the restaurant looked a bit busy.Food was excellent, beautifully...

Stayed for a weekend, and initially all looked ok-ish, Pleasant welcome at reception , plenty of parking space and an OK room. However I found the hotel really wanting , especially in the bar and restaurant department. I was on a workshop and the meal breaks needed to be swiftly executed to keep us on track ..they were not !!...

Nice old building but the transformation to a hotel hasn't quite worked to get the comfort you would expect from a decent establishment. The first room was in an out building, which had a pitched roof and low beams so you could only walk around by bending over. It was cold with loud creaky floors, was very dark with no...

On arrival the reception and welcome gave us high expectations however when we got to the freezing cold room we noted that maintenance in the hotel is shoddy. Tiles were hanging off the walls, the mosaics in the shower were mouldy, the tap arm was missing, water pressure was poor. However bed was comfortable ! Wifi was patchy. Decided to...

I thought the charge a little high for a room in a building that is showing it's age. The creaking floors and noisy doors heralded the late arrivals and early risers. The room was clean and the staff helpful. Breakfast was ok and again the staff were on hand and helpful. We didn't have dinner there so can't comment. Somewhat...
