Detailed Reviews
I forget exactly how we found Hungerford. It's not a tourist town (which is a plus, for me). I had made a similar tour of the area in 2003 (Stonehenge and Avebury) and stayed in Marlborough, which was a perfectly fine town. I was just looking for someplace different and maybe a little quieter. So I looked at a map of the area, researched small towns and browsed through Tripadvisor for hotel and B&B reviews. Alderborne House B&B (aka Honeybones B&B) was the most reasonably priced highly-rated lodging in town. This probably applies to other countries as well, but beware of the location of listings in Tripadvisor. The current #2 B&B listed is actually 5 miles outside of Hungerford. I'm sure it's very nice but it's in the middle of nowhere. We were looking for someplace that we could walk to restaurants and pubs from. Alderborne House fit the bill.
Alderborne House is located a 10 minute walk from the High Street and it's on a quiet dead-end street. When the Honeybones's retired, they decided to rent out their kid's rooms to visitors. It's a modern house with modern amenities. They typically rent out only one room at a time so you have a choice between the room in the back of the house with twin beds and a beautiful view of the Berkshire countryside or the room in the front of the house with a double bed. Both are upstairs. We opted for the double bed, which may be the most comfortable bed that I've ever slept in. To the left of that room is the bathroom and to the right is a room with a fridge for guests and tea/coffee making equipment. The room was warm (it was unseasonably cold and windy during our visit) and quiet.
Pat and Colin Honeybone are great hosts. Both are very knowledgeable about the area and can steer you towards sights, activities, dining options, etc. They are inveterate walkers, as are we, and gave us advise about where to take walks nearby. There is plenty to do in the area See their website. Pat makes a fabulous Full English Breakfast. Continental breakfast is available as well. Breakfast is served in their sunroom that looks out on their pretty garden, full of flowers and birds, and the rolling hills of the Berkshire countryside.
Pat & Colin, thank you for welcoming us into your home. Should we ever visit the area again, we would not hesitate to stay at Alderborne House again.

We stopped here on our way to the Channel Tunnel. the owners made us welcome and the room was warm and comfortable with nice rural views. Breakfast was tailored to our requirements as we both had upset digestions from a lunch stop the previous day. It was tasty and perked us up.

We stayed at Alderborne House for one night on 9th August, 2014. We were given a choice of rooms and opted for the double at the front of the house. The room was light and spacious, well presented, spotlessly clean and had all the usual amenities as well as ample wardrobe and drawer space. The bathroom, which was adjacent the room, was also of a high standard with well maintained facilities and a decent shower. Breakfast was superb with plenty of choice and served in a delightful sunroom with fantastic views over the countryside. Pat, our hostess, was absolutely charming and made us feel very welcome. We would have no hesitation in staying at Alderborne House in the future and would fully recommend this B&B accommodation.

My family of 4 stayed at Alderborne House for two nights the first week of May 2014. It was a very pleasant stay with all three rooms being very clean and comfortable. Our host Pat and Colin were very helpful with the planning of day trips. The breakfast was wonderful in their sun room. The view was fantastic. We would stay there again and suggest it to anyone.

We've been using Pat and Colins bed and breakfast establishment for the last 11 years as a base for our yearly Army Regimental reunions. We now regard them as our friends in Hungerford. The rooms are always spotless, always in fantastic decorative order and at breakfast time a real treat to share stories over a superbly cooked breakfast.
The rooms use a shared shower facility, which is presented in a very clean and modern fashion with everything there that you need. Overall an excellent place to stay with a friendly family atmosphere. Well done!

I was prompted to looked at Tripadvisor and found your pleasing comments. We know you extol our virtues from the number of enquiries received but as always your room is booked for the following year and we look forward to catching up again. Pity about yours and our good chum but the good news for you meant there was no need to share your bathroom with him ! Our thoughts are with you both.

As B&B's go, this is a very clean and cosy house. The rooms are all well kitted out and bedding lovely and soft. It's nice to have breakfast in the conservatory which has great views of the garden. Breakfast was scrummy. Location wise, its a short walk into the high street which has all the antique shops and some nice pubs, good chippy and some nic nac shops ..plus nice walks along the canal. If you wanted to venture further into the countryside the hosts have loads of walks and local info to keep you busy -I suggest using this info to the full! was a handy place to rest and eat in the morning when I spent the days with friends in the area.

After a long day in the saddle, cycling the National Cycle Networks's Route 4 from Bristol we received a warm and friendly welcome from Pat and Colin. One of our party of 4 cyclists is blind and Pat made such an effort to ensure things were just right for us that it felt like we were staying with old friends. Colin willingly came to the rescue in helping with a repair to a cycling shoe and nothing seemed too much trouble.
Staying at Alderbourne House is very convenient for eating out in Hungerford. Pat and Colin shared their sound local knowledge of the various local establishments and as a result we enjoyed a great evening out with good food and beer and a pleasant walk back afterwards.
Our rooms were very comfortable and clean and we all enjoyed a comfortable night's sleep.
A lovely breakfast was cooked by Pat as we sat chatting in the kitchen, after which it seemed such a shame to be moving on again.
If we are in the area again we won't hesitate to book in at Alderbourne House, it's just perfect.

We stayed for a weekend while visiting friends in Hungerford and would recommend the Aldbourne House B & B to anybody visiting the area.
