Just had a wonderful weekend staying at Plato's. The hotel is excellent. The room was beautiful and clean. The bed was so comfortable. The bathroom was great with a large shower and all toiletries provided, also two nice white bathrobes to use. The room was lovely and warm, we were grateful for this as it was a cold weekend. Tea... We had a lovely stay at Plato's. The room was lovely and very clean, but could have done with a good reading light by the bed. Sitting by the wood burners with a hot coffee after shopping was lovely and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Overall a lovely stay and will certainly consider staying there again.

My wife and I spent an overnight stay at Plato’s on our way south from Scotland. We had read the glowing reviews and also had wanted to visit Kirkby Lonsdale since we had passed it many times on the motorway. On arrival, we were given a warm welcome and shown to our room, which was a nice touch. With no... More

Excellent service, attentive and smiley staff who went the extra mile. Really good food. Great value for money. Would recommend a visit. A lovely touch of a hot drink and a cake on arrival. Even better if they had sent the free parking sticker before via email.

Arrived when the pub was very busy. Had tried to call to find out where to park but no answer. Managed to stop the car so one of us could go into the pub and we were directed to a car park. Please note parking is a good 5 minute walk so recommend dropping bags off first! Room was very... More

Excellent accommodation. Room was small but cosy, immaculate and very clean. The food, both evening meal and breakfast was the best food ive eaten for a very long time. The bar area was excellent with two log burners. Many thanks.

First things first parking up on arrival - there isn't any, or at least not at the hotel. The trick is to drive past and nip in to drop your bags and reception will give you a parking pass valid on most carparks in the village. Then just go and park the car and walk back. The hotel itself is... More

We stayed one night on our way up to Grasmere. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and we were offered a hot drink and cake in the bar which was a nice touch. We had a cosy, well equipped comfortable room with nice little touches such as a jar of sweets and books by the bed. The fault we... More

We visited Kirkby Lonsdale and stayed at Plato's on a bed and breakfast basis. We had a standard room which we found to be of a very high standard. Beautiful clean bed linen. Luxurious toiletries by Sedbergh. There were also plenty of tea coffee and biscuits. A wee handful of sweeties and an excellent breakfast. We visited Fri 18Nov for... More

Just returned from another lovely stay at Plato's - we were made to feel very welcome and felt right at home. The room was lovely and warm and the food, especially the delicious breakfast, superb. Once again the staff team were delightful. Look forward to a return visit in the New Year. Kath & Hugh

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Plato’s is set in the heart of Kirkby Lonsdale - once discovered never forgotten. On the edge of the Lake District, the Dales and The Forest of Bowland. A pretty little market town set in the Lune Valley with wonderful walking, stunning views and really good shopping. As a boutique hotel, we understand that one of the joys of going away is to have a touch more luxury than you do at home. So that is why in our higgledy piggledy old building, we have made sure that every room is unique. The only thing that is standard is comfort - the ultra luxury Vi-Spring beds, the crisp cotton linen, the stacks of fluffy white towels, the state of the art flatscreen TVs, the luxurious en suite bathrooms some with baths and others with rainfall showers, the complimentary bottle of Plato's wine and gorgeous local Sedbergh Soap Company toiletries.Downstairs we have a Bar and Restaurant - Proper home cooking with a twist made from fresh ingredients sourced on our doorstep, a wine list selected by grape so that you can try new variations of your favourite wine, and honest beers and ales for the drinker who knows the difference. All prices are per room per night and include our sumptuous breakfast which is served until 2.30pm so you really can have a lazy lie in (please note that the room cleaning service finishes at 10am and check out on day of departure is 11am). ... more   less
