Plato’s is set in the heart of Kirkby Lonsdale - once discovered never forgotten. On the edge of the Lake District, the Dales and The Forest of Bowland. A pretty little market town set in the Lune Valley with wonderful walking, stunning views and really good shopping. As a boutique hotel, we understand that one of the joys of going away is to have a touch more luxury than you do at home. So that is why in our higgledy piggledy old building, we have made sure that every room is unique. The only thing that is standard is comfort - the ultra luxury Vi-Spring beds, the crisp cotton linen, the stacks of fluffy white towels, the state of the art flatscreen TVs, the luxurious en suite bathrooms some with baths and others with rainfall showers, the complimentary bottle of Plato's wine and gorgeous local Sedbergh Soap Company toiletries.Downstairs we have a Bar and Restaurant - Proper home cooking with a twist made from fresh ingredients sourced on our doorstep, a wine list selected by grape so that you can try new variations of your favourite wine, and honest beers and ales for the drinker who knows the difference. All prices are per room per night and include our sumptuous breakfast which is served until 2.30pm so you really can have a lazy lie in (please note that the room cleaning service finishes at 10am and check out on day of departure is 11am).

Alex and his team are excellent. The top-notch customer service started with a cheery smile and greeting at breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble; the wood-burning stove was topped up all day during our chilly December stay, and a room query was quickly sorted without fuss. They were still busy being fabulous hosts whilst serving cheeky Amaretto Sours to round off our evenings. We loved the Sunday lunch and just hanging out at the hotel in general. Perfect place for a mini-break. The hotel is immaculately clean and well cared for the rooms were genuinely scrumptious and inviting. The location is so central you tumble out of the hotel into the middle of the town. Can't comment on the Lakes or walks; we simply didn't do any, but the shops were interesting, and we spent an enjoyable afternoon drifting in and out of them

I must admit we are regular visitors to Plato's and now through are recommendation on alot of our friends are too. We visited in the summer after the first lock down and again after the second! Why? Because Plato's is simply the best place to stay in kirkby lonsdale. It's got luxurious accommodation, locally sourced delicious food and a fantastic team of staff. Plato's was also following all the government guidelines and we felt safe!

A 4 night stay for NY which ended up a two night stay due to new lockdown restrictions. Can’t fault the welcome and service given by Plato’s staff. Nothing too much trouble and all safety measures were in place also. Good food and great location. We have stayed here before and will stay again however on this visit we were in a particularly small room considering we were staying for 4 nights and had our dog with us.

An amazing place. I am gutted they have had to close again. The place is immaculately clean, the hospitality was fabulous and a bit of normality in such a bad year. Platos made our stay fantastic, the food and the decor was amazing. We normally visit in the summer so this was a change and to sit in front of the roaring fire with our drinks was lovely. I wish the staff and owners a speedy reopening. They had done everything to comply with the Covid situation, so my heart goes out to them. Here's to more visits in 2021. See you all soon.
