Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great little hotel. Dog friendly. Lovely breakfast. We also had an evening meal that was fab. Staff super friendly. Room was snug, despite it being below freezing outside. Roaring fires and oak beams what more do you need.

You'd have to try very hard to find fault with a visit to the Sun Inn, and I couldn't! From the cosy well stocked bar, good local beer well kept to the very comfortable and well appointed rooms. Excellent bed, firm but comfortable, pillows, that you sink into and pleasant decor. The restaurant equally excellent with a delightful menu, refreshingly different dishes and all freshly prepared and presented. Breakfasts cooked freshly to order equally excellent. Would love to have stayed longer, and would return anytime.

We had called a few days earlier and fortunately there was a table available in the bar area as we were bringing our dog. Although we initially thought the menu options to be quite limited, everything we ate was absolutely top notch! My starter of the steak tartare was superb, as was hubby’s torched bream. We had mains of the amazing, utterly delicious braised feather blade ( simply melted in the mouth!) and the seared pork loin and managed to share the chocolate mess. One of the best meals we have eaten in a very long time, everything cooked to perfection!

Kirkby Lonsdale is a bit of a hidden gem and so is The Sun! It's warm and cosy, there is good beer in the bar and the food in the restaurant is excellent. We stayed for 2 nights mid-week in November and had a very enjoyable time. Our room was very pleasant, the bed very comfortable and the bathroom well appointed. Add to that staff who were all happy, cheerful and helpful and you can't really go wrong. There is every chance that we will be making a return visit in the future, so a big thank you to all concerned.

Everything about our stay was wonderful. Arrived early and was able to leave luggage and collect permit for free parking for duration of stay. When we went back we were shown to room where our luggage had been moved for us. The room was a lovely mix of old and new, with real character and was spotlessly clean. The food both in the evening and at breakfast was of a high standard. Both the bar area and the restaurant area are beautifully laid out. All staff were friendly, professional and customer focused each showing a genuine interest in guests and ensuring the best time was had. All in all a little gem of a hotel on the main street at the heart of Kirkby Lonsdale. We will definitely book again if returning to the area.

Great place to stay with staff who try hard, the young lady who served our breakfast this morning is a credit to this hotel as is the young lad who served dinner last night! Not the first time we’ve stayed here & won’t be the last, guaranteed! Place is clean as the proverbial whistle & nice and warm, spotless bedrooms.

This is an excellent good value hotel. Bedrooms are super, food brilliant, and lovely atmosphere created by very attentive and well trained staff. The town of Kirkby Lonsdale has lots of lovely independent shops as well as bars and coffee shops. We visit at least twice per year.

Just returned from a stay here with our dog. The bar is lovely, staff friendly and the room comfortable. They provide a lovely little welcome pack for your pooch and really nice toiletries. On the downside, the water pressure in the shower is poor, they don’t provide robes or a chair/stool to sit. My major complaint was on our return to the hotel on Saturday night at 10pm, we really wanted to enjoy a cheese board and coffees, a nice relax before bed. We were told that no food was available and the coffee machines were closed off. We asked if they could maybe do tea, but was told the boiler was also switched off. I’m sorry, but being a 5 star hotel then I would expect staff to provide customers with an option of a hot drink if requested. It wasn’t that late and still had other customers in the bar so boiling a kettle didn’t seem too much to ask. Very disappointing.

Bath robes are available on request as it states in the guest information book located on the bed when you check in, unfortunately we no longer have enough robes to put into every room due to a supplier shortage who is struggling to get a good enough quality robe. We would love to know at what time you had the shower and if it was at a busy time when everyone else was having showers before going out for the evening. Our showers are rain had showers that come direct from the water tank, they are not power showers so water will never come out really fast. We are very sorry that you didn't get to have a hot drink in the bar. On Saturday we asked all of our restaurant guests if they would like a hot drink, once everyone had a hot drink we cleaned and turned off the machine the same as every night. We do not have a kettle downstairs, we have a hot water tank that takes at least 15 minutes to get to temperature. All of our bedrooms have good quality kettles so I feel this is a rather unfair comment when you were able to make a hot drink yourself. Our last orders to the kitchen are at 7.45pm. This information is also in the guest information and also on the confirmation email sent to you when you booked the room. When you come back to the Inn at 10pm all of our kitchen staff had gone home, and we were only serving the last few guests we had in the bar. (you could have pre-ordered one before you went out for the evening and we would have happily asked the chef to make one up for you before he went home) For the last 2- 3 years we are often closed by 10pm due to the lack of customers around at this time of night. The town is not as busy as it once was and all the pubs and eateries in Kirkby Lonsdale have had to adjust to earlier close times. A staff member normally walks around town to see how busy other places are before we decide to close the door. If we have no customers in the pub, we close early. I hope that this clarifies some of the points when they read your comments. Many thanks Sun Inn team
