That is exactly what all four of us say when we talk about our stay at Eastshaw Guesthouse! As we got into the cab to leave for the airport, after our hugs goodbye and ours eyes damp..we were all quiet. It was a moment of reflection, a quick review and an acknowledgment of how lucky we were to have stayed at this charming, welcoming home with beautiful vistas from every window. But that is just the beginning....little did we know we would be meeting a most delightful couple named Mick and Jules...and sweet Stanley the dog..... kind, generous of time and spirit, full of stories and laughter and so happy to see us come home...oh that last part was mostly Stanley! Every morning we awoke to the smell of the most heavenly breakfast awaiting us. Hands down everyday started with the best Breakfast ever! Micks homemade bread fresh and varied every morning..eggs light and fluffy, potatoes cooked to perfection in served like a small cake...yummy sausage or smoked bacon and delish stewed tomatoes. Fresh juice and coffee...and of course the best cup of tea ever. Mick would make sure we had everything we neededand then he would sit down to check that we were fine and offer help with whatever we were doing that day! Oh yes, and always give us a good laugh! The best hosts always anticipate their guests needs. Anticipate they did! A pick up at the train, driving us to special beaches, making sure the wood stove was warm and ready...and some how Jules remembering my Grandaughters 17th Birthday.... with a card, the sweetest cake, tiny balloon and candle! ..and delish Prosecco! That night was a very special night! Yes the “Best Ever” hosts, house, food, dog, rooms and all wrapped up with a beautiful big seafoam colored Bow. Thank you Mick and Jules...until we meet again!…
Visited Seaham for the third time, and again absolutely loved staying at EastShaw Guesthouse which is ideal in oh so many ways: perfect spot for Seaham Beach access, which is many a seaglassers’ dream; easy walking to all the shops, stores, and restaurants - many are soooo good ; very comfortable, quiet, and cozy accommodations in a wonderful heritage home; and last but not least, the warm welcome and extended hospitality by the uniquely happy and vibrant personalities of the host Mick and his love Jules, two extraordinary people who make you feel totally at home and who provide fabulous breakfasts, treats, and quality dog time with their beloved black lab Stanley. I cannot recommend any place as highly as EastShaw guesthouse. Happy trails to you - until we meet again.
Staying at the Eastshaw Guesthouse was like staying with family! We were greeted with the warmest of welcomes by Mick, Jules, and Stanley. Their home was the perfect blend of inviting and cozy! Mick provided us with a short tour of the house and we found tea and biscuits waiting for us in our rooms! He quickly gave us the low down on the best sea-glass beaches and how to get to them and we were on our merry way! The weather was dismal but the sea-glass was aplenty! Upon arriving back to our seaside stay we found a bottle of wine, a warm fire to greet us, and Stanley was there wagging his happy tail! Mick is a top notch breakfast extraordinaire! Each morning he baked us fresh bread (a variety of options available- the rosemary was by far my favorite) and served us a full breakfast to die for! There was no need for lunch, thus more time for seaglass hunting!!! The accommodations of the house were all well suited for our family and the location of the house was within walking distance to some of the local eateries and stores! A short walk or drive down the road and one could easily find themselves submerged in seaglass covered beaches! We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Mick and Jules- they truly treated us like family! Our 5 year old daughter cried when we left England because she missed their dog Stanley so much! She also kept asking us why we couldn’t stay at their house for our entire trip :)…
Everything is first class - from your initial phone call with Mick - to being warmly met on the doorstep - it is everything you would expect from a 5 star hotel - but Mick & Jules are like family inviting you to stay in their home. We stopped for our anniversary and were made to feel so special. Breakfast set us up for the day and Mick's bread is wow! Stan the Labrador came to check on us and get some hugs. A wood burner in the sitting room and wine provided you couldn't ask for more. Thank you Mick and Jules we can't wait to return.
Fantastic place to stay. Mick and Julie really look after you, nothing is too much trouble for them. Very comfortable room and a lovely lounge with a wood burner which was lit for us every night. Bottles of wine and homemade cake were left for us too. Mick also makes a great breakfast. The position of Eastshaw is also great as it’s easy to walk to restaurants, coffee shops and beaches. We have stayed in in the past and I’ve no doubt that we’ll be back in the near future.
