Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I spent a weekend at The Mead for a friend’s birthday and cannot fault any aspect of our stay. The hosts and all staff were so friendly and helpful with nothing too much trouble. The food was like home cooked classics but with a real fine dining twist and way beyond my expectations. I thoroughly recommend a walk around the country lanes followed by afternoon tea in front a comforting open fire. The whole place was impeccably decorated but had a relaxed and informal feel with comfortable and cosy lounge areas. I definitely plan to return when the new spa is up and running. The venue is a fantastic place to hold a special event with a seamless blend of modern architecture with a very cool Georgian garden wall that is built in to the bar area. We had a great time and it felt like home while we there. Thanks James and Anna.

I can honestly say this hotel offered the best overall experience I have ever had in this country. It started with a genuine friendly welcome from the check in staff which set the tone perfectly. The cottage we stayed in was beautifully decorated and toasty warm. It was quite spacious and the tea, coffee and fresh brownies as a welcome were perfect. The bedrooms were cosy and the bed, really comfortable so expect a good night's rest! Back across in the main hotel, what a bunch of fabulous, genuine and helpful staff! Every staff member I encountered was cheerful and friendly, which echoed in the whole relaxed but professional atmosphere of the hotel. We were fortunate to meet with James and Anna, the hotel owners. What a charming couple. Very friendly and the perfect hosts, ouzing enthusiasm and pride in their fabulous hotel. James told us of further developments that were planned for next year, including state of the art Jacuzzis and treatments. I'll make an effort to get a further visit next year for this experience. Food wise, requiring gluten free, it's always requested with trepidation. I shouldn't have worried. Nothing seemed too much effort for the wonderful and talented chefs. An evening meal was exquisite. A very tasty afternoon tea, where the gluten free scones tasted no different from a normal one. Breakfast was no problem either. A full English, top quality, and my own toast was brought directly to me from the kitchen. All the food could not be faulted. Definitely some VERY talented chefs! The dining room was also a lovely ambiance and the tasteful decor continued throughout the hotel. There are pretty grounds surrounding the hotel too. There isn't really any need to leave the hotel at all to be honest, but if you do, the village is attractive with good pubs and great walks. I can't really find anything negative to say! A truly superb experience, worth every penny spent. I hope to be able to visit again in the near future. Six stars for this fabulous hotel!

Wow, Wow, Wow. Travelling from Saddleworth was well worth the trip!! I stayed at The Norfolk Mead with friends in 24th-26th November 2023. Anna, James and team couldn't do enough for us. My room was amazing with the best sleep I've ever had away from home with super comfy pillows and a quilt that cuddled you to sleep. The food (breakfast, afternoon tea and evening 3 course dinner) was deliciously awesome. We privately dined and we were treated to a late night bar across the courtyard to the self contained venue/bar where we danced the night away. The surrounding area is beautiful, including the Norfolk Mead grounds. Thank you so much for looking after our party.

WOW. Having stayed at the Norfolk Mead before, my expectations were high, although I was blown away by an event in their venue. It was awesome, everything perfectly executed and truly seamless. The food was incredible, from the canapés to the BBQ - everything was spot on. The team make the Norfolk Mead what it is, a truly special place to visit. Their attention to detail is note worthy and their desire to deliver a great guest experience is impressively consistent. Thank you for an incredible visit.

A lovely country house in all ways. Beautiful room with a balcony and large en suite, complete with armchairs. The food was delicious freshly prepared carefully presented with good sized portions. Breakfast was largely home made including the best marmalade in the world! Excellent value for money. We will be back.

This is such a welcoming and comfortable hotel. Lovely staff who are very helpful and food to rave about. We went for a two night break and loved the open fires and relaxed atmosphere. During the day we walked to the nearby river and visited the Christmas Spectacular at Thursford. There’s plenty to do and see.

We hosted our son’s naming day and first birthday in the beautiful garden room at the end of October. From the start of planning the event, to the day itself, the staff could not have more accommodating. Our guests felt so comfortable and we had the best day celebrating with all our family and friends. A special mention too for how well catered for our guests with dietary requirements were. I cannot recommend the Mead highly enough. Thank you so much.

Another relaxing stay at the Norfolk Mead. We did miss the cheese straws and olives with our pre diner drink however the food and friendly service did not disappoint. Looking forward to enjoying the extended spa facilities in the new year once completed.
