Nestled in a picturesque location near Norwich, The Norfolk Mead Hotel garners praise for its attentive service and cozy, tranquil atmosphere, despite some areas appearing outdated. Guests commend the clean and well-maintained premises, particularly enjoying the spa's quality. The hotel's rooms, noted for their comfort and views, add to its charm, although a few guests mention they could benefit from updates and more amenities. While the spa and dining options are highlights, the crowded spa and cramped changing rooms receive some criticism. Opinions on value vary, with experiences deemed excellent by some and overpriced by others.

My son and wife had their wedding at Norfolk Mead hotel yesterday . From start to finish the staff were amazing. Mark head of housekeeping was so tentative making sure both bride and groom had everything they needed in their rooms before the wedding and after.. The front of house couldn’t be more helpful. The staff at the wedding were fantastic too, nothing was too much trouble. The food was out of this world . The Garden Room itself is a perfect place for a wedding with beautiful gardens to spend time in and the actual hotel bedrooms are stunning .
Thoroughly recommend The Norfolk Mead for your wedding .

I was given an ‘Overnight Indulgence’ voucher for my birthday which included a night stay, 2 course a la carte meal, breakfast and a spa treatment for 2.

The hotel is set in a beautiful location with part of the Broads running along the bottom of the garden. We stayed in the ‘Rosehip’ room which was lovely and the hand soap smelled delicious. The evening meal was amazing, a nice variety to choose from, service was really good and lovely friendly staff. Breakfast was also really nice. Spa treatment was very relaxing.

We will definitely be going back x

We had a lovely stay here in February, other than a couple of small issues everything was fantastic. The room was lovely, though opposite the laundry room & it was a little off putting to come back to our room on a couple of occasions to a corridor full of sheets/ washing hanging on clothes horse.
There is currently building work taking place on a spa building which spoils the appearance on arrival if you weren’t expecting it & we were worried the noise would impact our stay, but it did not at all. It will be great to see the finished product once completed.
Only other very small issue was on last morning a peaceful breakfast was interrupted by hoovering the adjoining halls/rooms. They could have just waited until 9.30 when breakfast ends/shut the door as it was quite noisy. The hot breakfasts were delicious and an excellent selection of cold items were also available.
Overall it was a lovely break, the rooms are beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The staff were very attentive and friendly. We would definitely return if in the area.

Overall due to the setting and stunning garden and river views from our Damson room the review is certainly positive. Staff friendly however every drink choice we asked for they got wrong pre meal and post meal in the lounge. Food was mediocre at best and not a memorable dining experience. Room nicely made up, but take a pair of scissors as the ground coffee plastic bag cannot be opened otherwise, we had to use nail clippers to get in to the coffee bag! No fridge in room but milk in corridor fridge in the morning, we had to ask for milk when we checked in to make tea in room as fresh milk only. The kettle far too tall to get under the tap to fill up, so expect to decant a glass of water in to kettle, found that quite bizarre. Bed comfy and supportive pillows, the staff need to be trained not to have pillow cases inside out, however a decent sleep had. Heating on so room comfortable. Shower great.
Splendid flowers in reception and lounge areas. Good parking outside so car to hotel no distance if raining.
The canepes were ok but at three pounds each beware as that applied to individual cheese sticks! The cost of canepes was more than the Pol Roger!
Small changes to staff training and ensuring drinks ordered are correct would have given it another star. I would go back but not sure would eat there in the evening, the breakfast was cooked well and decent quality in fact better than evening meal food.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and we're sorry that your experience didn't meet your full expectations. We take all feedback seriously but we also feel it's important that as a small business we clarify some details. Regarding the pre-dinner drinks, it seems there may have been a misunderstanding. Only one drink was served incorrectly—a slimline tonic instead of a regular one. This was an honest mistake that we corrected right away, and we regret that it impacted your experience. As for the canapés, we want to clarify that there were eight guests, which does affect the overall cost. One of your guests personally selected the canapés, and we did discuss the pricing and variety with them. We strive to be transparent with our guests about costs, and we regret any confusion around this. We're also surprised to hear about the difficulty with the coffee sachet, as this is the first time we've had this feedback in over 10 years. We'll definitely look into making it easier to open in the future, along with reviewing the kettle design. Lastly, we make a point of informing all guests about the availability of fresh milk from our local dairy, located on the first landing, as we prefer this over UHT products. We apologise if this was missed during your check-in process. We truly appreciate your comments on the comfortable room, quality of breakfast, and our beautiful surroundings and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back again. Best regards, The Norfolk Mead Team

I am pleased to say our stay was excellent! Firstly the room: Hawthorn was delightful, a kingsize bed, lovely ensuite facilities and comfortable seating area overlooking the rear of the hotel with an added bonus of a balcony. Tea/coffee/water and complimentary chocolate brownies was a nice touch. Plenty of wardrobe and storage space and very nice soft furnishings.
We had dinner and breakfast. Both meals were of excellent quality from a good menu selection. Credit to the chef on the quality and presentation in all aspects. The wine was realistically priced and again good quality.
We had 2 hours complimentary use of the Spa facilities which again were excellent with very good attention to detail. Robes, towels & flip flops supplied. Lime & Lemon water freshly available. The large jacuzzi pool, large shower with variable settings, steam room, sauna and outside hot tub were some of the best I have experienced, obviously this is a very new facility and this was obvious, however a lot of attention to detail and customer comfort appears to have been considered.
Finally the staff; In both the hotel and Spa facilities every member of staff we came into contact with was helpful, friendly and importantly nicely presented! Everyone was professional and all demonstrated a great example of customer service and satisfaction from the minute we arrived until we left.
I would definitely recommend this hotel and Spa and will return as fortunately for us we don't live too far away! A most enjoyable experience. Thank you.

My husband and I came for the weekend to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary ( we got married at The Mead)
Our weekend also coincided with Valentines weekend.
Staff are always outstanding. Warm, friendly, professional, and helpful.
The hotel is incredibly welcoming, warm, and cosy fire as you enter. Beautiful fresh flowers, plush furnishings, and great lighting.

We stayed in the Hawthorn, which has a super comfy bed, top quality bedding. A large, powerful shower and relaxing armchairs in the room all overlook the gardens at the back. Housekeeping is excellent, and the room was spotless.

It was the first time we used the new spa facilities, and we had an amazing 2 hrs! Staff, so lovely and helpful. The hydrotherapy pool was pure bliss, as was the steam
and sauna room. My husband also thoroughly enjoyed the beer spa! Filled with hops, malt, and himalayan mountain salt and your own beer tap to pull a pint was luxurious! All immaculately kept, with staff regularly making sure everything was tip top and providing cold, fresh water with lemon and lime slices.
Towel, robe, and personalised Norfolk Mead flip flops included.
We didn't eat in the spa. However, the bar area and lunch area were beautiful and tastefully decorated/furnished.

To top of what The Mead has to offer is the superb food! The best food I have ever eaten anywhere! The presentation is excellent, and the quality of ingredients used are top notch. All the elements combine to make a taste sensation.

I live in Norfolk and can honestly say I think this is the best hotel in Norfolk.
Thank you team for another wonderful stay.

Dear Mr and Mrs Carmichael, What a joy it was to read your review - thank you so much for taking the time to share such thoughtful and detailed feedback! It truly means the world to us that you chose to celebrate your 3rd wedding anniversary back where it all began. We’re so pleased that you felt warmly welcomed and comfortable throughout your stay, from the cosy fires and fresh flowers to the Hawthorn room’s little luxuries. It’s also wonderful to hear that you had the chance to experience our new spa facilities - your kind words about the hydrotherapy pool, steam room, sauna and beer spa are much appreciated and we’ll be sure to pass your praise on to the team. And of course, we’re absolutely thrilled that you enjoyed the food so much! Knowing it was the best you’ve ever had is the highest compliment we could hope for. It’s always a pleasure to welcome you both back and we truly appreciate your continued support. We can’t wait to see you again soon for another special stay at The Mead. Best wishes, Emma

Me and my partner recently visited the new spa and were very disappointed with the overall experience.

Negatives

- Like most spa’s they are too greedy and overfill the spa. It was crowed and they let way too many people in. No beds were available in the main area due to the amount of people.

- The wait staff were incredibly unprofessional while working. The girls were giggling, talking loudly and we waited quite a while to be served at the bar numerous times.

- It is over priced for what they offer. There is simply not enough on offer/ rooms in the main spa area to charge what they do.

- Changing rooms are way too small. I was unable to use the shower with the door closed. They have tried to fit 2 showers into 1 enclosure which simply doesn’t work. Any more than 4 people in these changing rooms and you’ll have nowhere to change.

- When we sat down for afternoon tea there were numerous dirty tables and they stayed dirty the entire time we had our food. The staff were all behind the counter sitting down and talking when we went back to the spa.

Positives

- The afternoon tea was excellent. With a very good selection and high quality.

- The spa itself is beautiful, very well designed and modern.

If the price was reduced slightly and they let fewer people in then this would be an excellent spa.

Dear Robert,  Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet your expectations. While we’re pleased to know you enjoyed the afternoon tea and found the spa itself beautiful and well-designed, it’s a shame that these positives were overshadowed to the point of warranting a one-star review. After careful consideration, we'd like to address some of the concerns you raised: 1. Spa Capacity and Facilities We take great care in maintaining a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere for all our guests. Our spa accommodates a maximum of 50 guests per day, based on locker availability and seating - this is quite modest compared to other local spas. While we haven’t yet reached full capacity, we carefully balance providing an exceptional guest experience with the practical considerations of running a business. We feel it's fair to say that we offer a range of facilities comparable to, and in some cases exceeding, those of similar establishments. Despite being open for only a few weeks, we were named the Top Spa in East Anglia and ranked among the top 50 spas in the UK, because of our unique facilities. That being said, we understand that preferences may vary, and being everyone’s “cup of tea” is a challenge that every business encounters—though we do our best to be! 2. Pricing: Our pricing is designed to be competitive and we believe we offer exceptional value for the experience. In fact, when comparing our half-day package and treatment prices with other spas in the region (including our top competitors), you’ll find that we are among the most reasonably priced. However, we continually review pricing to ensure it remains fair and reflective of the service we provide.  3. Service Experience: We are very sorry that the service you received fell short of our usual standards. We’ve addressed this with our team as it’s not indicative of the level of service we pride ourselves on. Please note that we are committed to ensuring that this remains an isolated incident. Ultimately, we are glad you found aspects of your visit, such as the afternoon tea to be of high quality and we wish those positives had shone through more. Thank you for visiting us. Kind regards,  Emma

This hotel was absolutely delightful, it has a stylish welcoming interior in a beautiful location with access to a boat on the river Bure, I could have happily spend the days pottering about on the river! Food was magnificent, the rooms were very comfy and exceptionally clean. We felt very welcomed and the atmosphere was exceptionally welcoming, everyone seemed to genuinely want to make our stay perfect, which it was.

The most beautiful stay we have had in a long time. We arrived and were upgraded immediately which was amazing (to the Beachnut suite). The room was very comfortable with an extremely comfy bed. Pillows were a little flat, so we had to put a decorative cushion underneath to plump up.
Bedding otherwise felt luxurious and we slept well.
Amenities in the room were fab and we enjoyed having two TVs to watch all the olympics. The outdoor little table and chairs was nice to read on and the bar area in the garden was beautiful in the sunshine. A very relaxing atmosphere across the hotel. We also enjoyed walking around the grounds to the river, very wholesome. The breakfast was divine and just enough to fill you up without going over the top. Lovely yogurt, granola, toast and eggs. The coffee was a bit weak (oat flat white) but it was Okay.
The staff are extremely polite and welcoming. The whole experience was amazing and we would definitely like to come back when the spa is ready (it was opening the weekend we left).
The dinner, bed and breakfast rate was incredible - £313 mid week deal for two nights with £40 per head for dinner. The dinner was 10/10 and no wonder they have won awards.
We explored Cromer and the Norfolk broads, taking a boat out, which are all within such close proximities. It's a well located hotel.
Thank you for a truly beautifully relaxing time at the Norfolk Mead Hotel. We have told everyone to come.

I stay in a lot of hotels for business, which are comfortable and functional, but very identikit. For a weekend break, we stayed in this old country house. The bedroom was everything a business hotel is not: small, quirky, and just plumb different. The bedroom was in a converted attic, so parts of the bathroom were so low I had to duck to avoid banging my head. One of the big drawbacks was that on a hot weekend, the absence of air con was a problem. Even with all the windows open at night, the room was stiflingly hot, making it hard to sleep.

On the plus side, the hotel is well-known for its food. We had a drink before dinner at a friendly local pub, then had a fabulous meal which was pricey (about GBP50 each), but very well-prepared and presented. The breakfast was also really good - the best Eggs Benedict I have had since moving from Fiji in 2020. I still miss the Eggs Bennie from Bulaccino at Garden City, but these were very close.

Yes, you should as, due to the excellent quality, the restaurant is very popular with local people and the bookings are on first come first served basis. I don’t believe tables are automatically reserved for residents. You might miss out on a fantastic dining experience!

Good question , it is u likely, as the area is well catered for with great river run offs being in the Broads but it is best to check directly with the hotel. I last stayed there I the height of the winter and there was not a problem.
