A really special place in a home which has been in the owners ship of the same family since the reign of Henry VII! The bedrooms are delightful and beautifully furnished with paintings and antique furniture. The dining room is all oak panelled and the food cooked by the owner with many ingredients from her own very large vegetable and...

A beautiful house set in lovely grounds with delightful staff is a recipe for an enjoyable stay, but this is a little different from the run of the mill country hotel in rural England, this is much more like staying with your favourite well heeled Aunt for a weekend. First the good points: 1. The staff without exception are delightful....

Don't come here if you want a television in the bathroom, or a nespresso machine, or minibar. Stone House is nothing like most "luxury hotels"; staying here is like staying in an extraordinarily comfortable and charming house. The beds are comfortable, the furniture genuinely antique and the welcome friendly. The garden is a wonderful, overflowing mixture of the edible and...

Having read other reviews about Stone House I feel they have been truthfully except a couple. Yes the decor in the rooms is tired and yes there is no shower not even attached to the bath and the single bed was worn out, so it felt. But these niggles have to be ignored when taking the whole Stone House experience...

My wife and I returned to Stone House for a long weekend. Much of the garden is settling down for winter with the roses are almost gone. The ducks on the lake seem more numerous and the heron was still there. Shooting parties gather at the House on Saturday for lunch. The fire was lit in the library during the...

It isn't often that you get the chance to stay in a country house which has belonged to the same family since the 15th Century. Stone House is more like a private home than a hotel but it is well run, the rooms are charming, if a bit eccentric, and the food is delicious.

If you imagine a fine english country house where the owners receive guests in the moderate style of Downton Abbey, which doesn't advertise, treats you like you are a weekend guest in the family home, you are beginning to imagine Stone House. I have not seen anything comparable. Arrive at the front door of a classic Georgian House set in...

This summer I did a bit of a road trip around the south of England. My happiest memories are of the 3 nights I spent at the Stone House. It's an unusual place, slightly tired, but the service is excellent and the family are so nice. The room was more chintzy than I normally would choose, but very comfortable (as...

A beautiful country house which for centuries has been in the possession of the Dunn family. A perfect location to experience the centuries of old English traditions. Superb rooms , beautiful garden, but especially the cooking of Mrs. Dunn are unforgettable. A perfect place to explorer the south of England.

It was love at first sight when approaching this splendid building on a sunny October afternoon for our one night stay to join great friends for dinner. Driving through the quiet countryside reminds one of how wonderful England is, then to stay with such charming hosts compounds this. It seems that you are staying with rather grand relatives, surrounded by...

“In Autumn the 'Pink 4 poster' is warmer than the 'Green 4 poster'as it has south facing windows. Both amazing, large and very comfortable. Similarly the 'Suite' and 'Canopied' rooms have more sun as they are on the south facing side of the house. All rooms have tea & coffee making with home made biscuits. No rooms have door locks!”
