I rarely bother to do these, which shows how much I loved Upper Tregudda at Green Door Cottages, Port Gaverne. We went with a big family with heaps of children... - Spacious, airy, gorgeously decorated property. Extensive CHILD SAFE balcony! - Loads of bedrooms and bathrooms. Very comfortable! - 5 min walk down to the beach, sheltered bay so excellent for little ones. - SUP and kayaks to rent on beach, plus coasteering tours so lots of entertainment for bigger ones. Loads of caves, coves, ledges to jump off, can paddle / swim round to Port Isaac.... - 10 minute walk over to charming Port Isaac - ice creams, pasties, quaint little shops, harbourside, spread of restaurants and pubs (Golden Lion was a great meal out). - Fish cellars = great value fresh fish and seafood from the daily catch. - BBQd on balcony at Upper Tregudda, BBQ provided, sea food feast as above! - Well set up for family returning from beach, property easy to keep clean. - Outrageous sunsets looking out to sea, perfect for a sundowner on the balcony. - Also great potential for coastal footpath walks in all directions. Can walk through garden, across road and right out to end of headland in 10 mins, kids were up early so went to watch the sunrise! Will definitely come again, thanks Green Door Cottages!

We stayed in Rose Cottage at Easter with our 2 children and small dog. The cottage was perfect for us and we thought reasonably priced for a week in April school holidays. Parking is at a premium in Port Isaac so to have a dedicated space outside the cottage was great - our car was huge too so we were glad to be able to park it OK. The kitchen isn't the most up to date, nor was the table and and chairs, but we could see that the soft furnishings were new or had been cleaned which really spruced up the cottage and it was spotlessly clean. The only thing that needed an update was the TV - it was pretty old and therefore were were stuck with terrestrial TV. Yes, you don't go on holiday to watch TV, but when you have young children, you are a bit housebound in the evenings after dinner. The rooms are good sizes with everything you need and the icing on the cake for us was a dedicated garden which was pleasant to sit out in and great for not having to worry about letting the dog out. We had 1 problem with the lock on the door while we were there and the owners came out straight away. Location is fantastic and despite coming to Port Isaac for years, it was one of the best family holidays we have had - we loved it so much, we booked again for Easter this year. Looking forward to our visit!

Thanks for the lovely review- and great to hear you’ll be returning next year. We take your point about the TV. We are in the process of upgrading to smart TV’s throughout and rest assured that Rose will have a new one by your next visit!

Fabulous location, less than 100 metres from Port Gaverne harbour and waters edge. With a great pub/hotel outside the door. Port Gaverne Hotel. Our group was adults, all of which run holiday properties, but were very dissappointed with the standard of this rental. The shower was barely a trickle, which after a long days walking was hard to live with. The heating did not come un in the downstairs bedrooms, due to the thermostat being upstairs where the open fire was. And whilst this was a self catering cottage, where was no welcome pack , or bathroom accessories, even no salt and pepper! One bin liner and one diswasher tablet. Unfortunately this meant half of our group moved out before new years eve. And we left a day earlier of departure. A real shame as it could be great place to stay if all the above worked.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and so glad to hear that you enjoyed our spectacular location! We were very disappointed to read your comments and surprised (and a little puzzled) as to why you didn't contact us at any point during your holiday. At least one of us is in Port Gaverne on most days, particularly during busy holiday periods, and a quick call or text is all that was required to enable us to fix the issues and replenish the missing items - all of which we routinely provide. What a shame! Had you got in touch, your friends need not have left early and you could have enjoyed your New Year's celebrations together.

We have been staying at Green Door Cottages for the last 13 years, often multiple times a year. We won't stay anywhere else! Due to our frequency of visits, we have stayed in most of the cottages/apartments but the one we've stayed in the last couple of years is Marigold. Layout - It's an upside down cottage (which was a god send in the heatwave we had in July as as the bedrooms were nice and cool) with the main front door coming in at the upper level and doors to the garden are off the bedroom. There are a few steps up from the road to get into the cottage. There is one bathroom and 2 bedrooms on the lower level. The rooms are a great size, especially the twin room which is huge and both have good wardrobe space and plenty of hangers. The landing area (is that what you call it in an upside down house?!!) is so big that it makes a perfect space to store your cases/kids toys/hang towels/washing up without being in the way. The living room is a good size but very cosy with very comfy sofas and a wood burner (wood provided). The kitchen is off the living room (open plan) which is nice to be able to cook while still being with others who are in the living room. The kitchen is very well equipped with decent pots and pans and knives (I end up taking mine to other places I stay but don't need to here!). There are all sorts of glasses depending on your tipple and mugs and plastic plates/cups etc for kids or picnics. Washing machine and dishwasher is great too. Cleanliness - The cottage is spotlessly clean! I am SO fussy about cleanliness and despite the cottage being dog friendly as well as very old with various features, making it harder to clean, it was pristine! My husband is highly allergic to animals and this is the only 'dog friendly' place he will stay as it's cleaned so well. I am also really fussy about bedding/mattresses, especially when it comes to stripping the beds in places, but the mattresses, duvets and pillows are in immaculate condition. Outside area - the main draw is you are virtually on Port Gaverne beach! You come out the door and walk about 20 steps and you're at the beach. It is beautiful! As well as the beach, Marigold has direct access into the beautiful communal garden. It's so peaceful and tranquil, with nice rattan table/chairs and parasol provided outside each cottage. It never seems to have more than one or two other people in it, if that, due to other cottages having private garden/balconies so it can feel like your own private garden. There is a gate at each end with a latch too high for children to reach so you can relax and let your children play knowing they can't escape and they have a sandpit in the middle of the garden which the young children love. If you sit with the gate open, looking out, you can even get a glimpse of the sea! There is a pub on the doorstep and a 'posh' cafe, both with sea views. The pub is traditional with the most beautiful flowers outside in the summer months and so cosy and warm in the colder months. You can sit in their garden or, my husbands favourite spot, out the front on the road looking at the sea and watching the world go by! The pub and cafe serves food, which is delicious but in recent years has gone rather up market so definitely not typical pub and cafe food! But there are plenty of other cafes/pubs/tea rooms up the hill in Port Isaac to enjoy as well. Parking - the parking space is tight and may take a few attempts but we manage to get our huge truck in and out so standard cars will be fine. The space is round the corner and unfortunately you can't park right outside. We unload /load outside the front door in the side road as there is a little lay-by right outside the front door so you can pull up tight without blocking the road (it's not bust anyway) **TIP** reverse down the road to get to Marigold because there is nowhere to turn at the end and it's much longer to reverse all the way back than it is to just reverse to Marigold in the first place! Location - it really is the most beautiful location with a little buzz of life from the visitors and locals, but so peaceful and relaxing compared to the hustle of tourism up the hill in Port Isaac. You get the best of both worlds being able to walk to PI but come back to the tranquility of Port Gaverne. The beach is stony/bit of sand depending on the tide and is nice and small so never attracts crowds in peak season. The water is unbelievably clear, as clear and beautiful as water in the Greek Islands. Bloody freezing though!! You can hire paddle boards/kayaks/go rock jumping etc or you can just paddle and explore the caves or go for a spectacular cliff top walk and sit on one of the benches and take in the surroundings. There is an information folder in the cottage which literally tells you anything and everything you can do/places to go/where to eat etc for miles around, not just the immediate area. Other than PG beach, our favourite beaches are Harlyn Bay and Trevone, which are about 30 mins drive (but we still only stay at Green Door!!). Our favourite restaurant is The Old School hotel and for seafood, The Mote (its small inside so always need to book). There is an amazing little pizza restaurant at the top of the hill called the Angry Anchovy who also do takeaway too. And for a superb breakfast /lunch/coffee cake, Lazy Days cafe without a doubt! People - the people who own/work for Green Door are absolutely lovely and nothing is too much trouble. Pip, the owner, always comes to say hello and makes you feel extremely welcome, the house keeping team are so friendly and fun and do an amazing job (especially in recent times) and Mick the caretaker lives on site and is always around and nothing is too much trouble if you need anything. Depending on who we come down to the Cornwall with, depends on which cottage we stay in but when we just need two bedrooms, Marigold is my favourite of them. Despite having fallen in love with Green Door years ago and could be accused of being biased, between my husband and I, we are extremely fussy about where we holiday and this is the only place we have come back to again and again and now with our 7 year old who had his first holiday here when he was 6 weeks old! Can't wait to spend our first Christmas at Green Door this year.

We booked this cottage as stated dog friendly. As it is an upside down house, to get to the garden you have to take the dogs downstairs through the bedroom, on a very light carpet. Number 1 rule is dogs not allowed in bedroom. The garden is communal so you cannot let the dogs run free, as another rule is don't let dogs into other areas. So though you can take your dogs, it's not a great cottage for them as doesn't meet the dog's needs. It says parking, but until you have booked you don't know it's around the corner in quite a tight spot. You can take your luggage by car to the cottage, but it's in a narrow road with no turning, so although in a nice location, the description is a little off, if the truth told we would not have booked this cottage. The downstairs is quite cold and damp as though there is heating it doesn't really warm the downstairs up. Bath towels provided, bath sheets would be better. Not much room in the bedroom to get by the chest of drawers and the bed frame, be prepared to bump your legs on one or the other if you sleep on the left of the bed. Would not stay in the cottage again, and Forever Cornwall need to be more factual on the description and the rules before you book. As would not book with them again as too economical with the truth and obviously the needs of dogs not factored in.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review - all comments are appreciated and help us to make improvements where necessary. We were sorry to hear your concerns and with this in mind, we will revisit property descriptions on Forever Cornwall's website (our booking agent), to ensure that they are entirely accurate as this is something that we, and Forever Cornwall, take seriously and we would never intentionally mislead potential guests. Whilst we are very happy to welcome well behaved dogs, it is also very important that we are mindful of guests who don't have, or are allergic to, dogs. And I'm sure you would agree that it would unacceptable to allow dogs to run free either inside on the furniture or beds, or outside, in an area where non- dog owners are relaxing or young children are playing. Because of our wonderful location, just a stone's throw from the beach (which allows dogs year round) and literally on the Cornish Coastal Path, our guests generally use the front door for access to the beach and coast path, rather than the bedrooms downstairs, which have access to the communal courtyard garden. We feel that our proximity to the beautiful Cornish beaches and coastal walks, caters perfectly for the needs of dogs! We were also sorry to hear that you had heating issues during your stay - we encourage guests to contact us immediately with any problems. There is generally someone on site to help and with a quick explanation, we could have solved this as the heating is easily controlled by guests in the property.

Having spent a marvellous week with all the family, we have already booked for next year. We have stayed at the property for many years and have no wish to stay anywhere else. The refurbishments are superb, the properties excellently equipped and and the views spectacular as always. As parking at Port Gaverne is notoriously difficult, the parking area at the property is much appreciated.

The cottage is in an amazing place right by the pub and beach and easy walking distance from port Issac. The cottage is large and has a well equipped kitchen and all the cupboards were clean. However on the downside: A very musty smell all through the cottage which never went even when all the windows were left open. The windows were extremely dirty. The paintwork was dusty. The settees, cushions, curtains, blinds and rug were faded and old The carpets all need a good clean The paint on the walls has patches where is has been touched up and the paint is a different colour. Whilst the kitchen and bathroom were clean I find it hard to believe that the rest of the cottage had been deep cleaned due to COVID. We booked the cottage last year before the price hikes and still paid just under £2000 for two weeks. I was expecting a higher standard than I received for that amount of money.

Thank you for taking the time to review Marigold and we're very sorry that you weren't totally happy. It is important to us that our guests enjoy their holiday. We apologise about the patched paintwork. This was a genuine mistake made during the extremely busy period leading up to reopening in April. We must, however, contest some of your other comments, which are factually incorrect. 1. Both sofa's have literally just been newly reupholstered, prior to reopening and most of the other furnishings were upgraded 2 years ago. 2. The carpets, sofas & mattresses in all properties were professionally deep cleaned in April, as they are every year and all properties are thoroughly deep cleaned on a regular basis. 3. We must stress that our cleaners take their cleaning duties, and particularly the Covid cleaning protocols, very seriously and government guidelines for cleaning holiday properties are stringently adhered to.

With its fabulous location right by the beach in beautiful Port Gaverne, Thrift cottage is a little gem. Spotlessly clean and well equipped, we couldn't fault it. The private shared garden was lovely to sit in and enjoy a glass of wine or a cuppa. We made use of the activities at Cornish Rock Tors next door including sea kayaking and swimming which were great fun and brilliant value. The best thing though is its location. So close but yet so far from the hustle and bustle of crowded Port Issac.

Fabulous stay in Venus once again. Wonderfully well equipped kitchen and spacious upstairs living area with a spectacular view of Port Gaverne bay from which to enjoy the stunning tidal ebb and flow of the sea. The sea-view balcony is a great place to relax with a drink, meal or book, and ideal for watching the sun sink towards the sea. The downstairs rooms in the cottage accommodated our family well; the bathroom has both a bath and a shower and there is direct access from the main bedroom to the secluded private garden. Other Green Door cottages can be booked for our extended family members (Rashleigh, Jasmine and Rose also have Friday changeover) so that many of us can holiday together yet stay socially distanced in our own cottages. Port Gaverne is a lovely hamlet with so much to offer and easy access to the wider North Cornish coastline. We will definitely return next year!

The balcony on a sunny day makes this holiday, views stunning, gets sun bulk of the day. BEWARE However without the weather you don’t want to stay in the VENUS holiday let! It is an upside down house with a hideous amount of damp downstairs, the smell hits you as soon as you open the door. The carpets are v warn and threadbare in places, we weren’t sure if they had fleas (signs of bites on ankles & itchy feet). You need to keep all windows/doors open to relieve the smell was constant but then you risk a RAT yep RAT entering the house as they have a route between pub and river that passes the bedrooms. Owner Is aware of damp issue (blaming cupboard under the stairs) but it’s in all wardrobes and makes clothes smell (hence 3 air vents to ea wardrobe to try relieve smell), owner did get suffering rat removed. Owner did sort Out a cheese grater when requested & upstairs really does have everything you need for a super wk away. At night there is the noise of pub visitors sat outside just the other side of the bedroom wall, made worse because windows needed to be open to relieve those damp smells.
