We had a wonderful 4 day break at Cosworth House. The house itself is beautiful and in a lovely location with views of the Camel Estuary, parking on site was such a huge bonus in busy, thriving Padstow. Our room was luxurious with an uber comfy bed with luxury bedding. The bathroom was huge, again luxurious fixtures and fittings, beautiful clawed foot bath, powerful separate shower cubicle with loads of hot water and superb water pressure. Luxury bath/shower/shampoo products and huge, soft, fluffy towels and robes.

Breakfast is a short under 5 minute stroll from the house at Rick Steins St Petroc, the food was faultless and the staff friendly and went above and beyond.

I can’t find any fault and can’t wait to come back.

This is the fourth time we’ve stayed at Coswarth House and it continues to be an excellent, luxury base for exploring this part of Cornwall. Mark is a great host and having now stayed in each of the rooms they’re all as beautifully furnished as one another and provide a very restful break however long we stay. Thank you so much for making us feel welcome, a true home from home!

Me and my wife stayed at Coswarth house early October this year, Mark was an amazing host! He guided us in as parking isn’t the most obvious which was great. We were greeted in the car park and showed to our beautifully decorated room which looked out on to the garden and to top it off a bottle of fizz which was delicious!

Mark gave us all the information we needed regarding taxis and restaurants in the area and explained about breakfast which is actually at the Rick Stein restaurant just a short walk away. Breakfast choice was great fruit, pastries, porridge, full English and it tasted amazing.

The bed was ridiculously comfy with high quality cotton sheets and more pillows than you can shake a stick at, honestly the best sleep I’d had in a long time!

The bathroom was absolutely gorgeous, the soap and shampoos supplied are also great and a lovely touch, very classy.

Mark was on hand when ever we needed him for anything we required. We had a lovely chat before we left for our journey home, Mark I a very interesting and genuine guy, it was great to hear about his background and cars he’s had (I’m a bit of a car nut haha).

We would highly recommend staying here at Coswarth House and hope to stay again sometime soon!

Hope the sink is still ok Mark apologies for the delay in review I’ve been ridiculously busy with work, I’m sure you’ll understand.

Thank you for the amazing stay!

Ryan and Annie

Hello Ryan & Annie. Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a wonderful review. The sink is still perfect! I also really appreciated you sorting that for me...not many guests would do that while on their holidays. You are welcome back whenever you like...just text or email me. In the meantime, good luck with everything and keep enjoying that car!

When a B&B is charging £289.00 per night, one’s expectations are pretty high. (this being far far more than we have ever paid for overnight accommodation). I cannot dispute other reviewers saying how charming a host Mark is, but the room, although trendily decorated is average, despite the pure white carpet which certainly added a touch of luxury, although making us fearful of walking upon it. The bedside lights were difficult to switch on and off and didn’t give sufficient light to read by. There were no tissues when we arrived – Mark said due to Covid. (though the 3 other establishments we stayed in during our West Country trip did manage tissues) Upon request Mark provided me with a half used box of tissues. Thank goodness the Covid restrictions did not apply to the loo paper!

For this price I would have expected some glam toiletries, a bowl of fruit, or maybe some fiz. Due again to covid our beds could not be made up for our second night nor towels replaced (and they were wonderfully fluffy). I would have expected a slight reduction in view of this.

Breakfast is taken at Rick Stein’s café – just down the road and quite delicious. The parking is snug, to say the least and the access, through the garden has no railings and is slippery when wet. Combined with Steep stairs leading to our room I would suggest only the very fit (and well heeled) stay here. The following evening on our way back to London we stayed at a pub near Stourhead, also with 3 rooms. We got biscuits and coffee tea and water, plus little bottles of conditioner and shampoo and sweets! Also tissues and a TV that functioned perfectly – Marks’s TV shut down on us when we tried to change channels, but since it had never happened before perhaps it was something we pressed when we shouldn’t.

Padstow is obviously cashing in on the fact that we cannot venture far from our shores this year. But I do think that the price for this very pleasant Bedroom and large, bathroom are excessive -even in these times. Sorry Mark

Not really much to answer here but I will provide a balanced response recognising that the customer perception is really all that counts. All our guests are offered fizz on arrival but these guests refused a welcome drink when asked. The room is beautifully decorated and one of the finest in Padstow borne out by numerous independent reviews. It has Liberty cushions, Farrow & Ball wall paper, Brinton’s beige carpet, an antique chandelier, luxurious Egyptian cotton bed linen & towels as well as beautiful hand blended toiletries from St. Kitt’s Herbery. The bathroom is nothing short of majestic and houses a centrally located claw foot bath, walk in shower, antique seating and beautiful mirrors. On arrival the guests are informed that all they need to do is text or call and they can have unlimited replenishments of tea, coffee, milk, towels, toiletries etc. The guests asked for more milk and tissues and help with the TV after they had unplugged the aerial. I received a call to say that the TV was no longer working! The TV is a state of the art 4K Samsung 42 inch internet enabled TV...it does, however, still require an aerial and no other guest has ever had a problem with the terrestrial channels. The tissues that we provided had been left in isolation for over a year so the fact the box had been unopened was irrelevant. It is true that during the pandemic, on government advice, we removed all surplus items such as our leather clad tissue boxes, magazines and coffee-table books. It was a little disconcerting to find a pile of used tissues left under the bed after the guests had departed - this is a bit inconsiderate in the middle of a Covid outbreak and it meant that we had to disinfect the carpet under the bed to a higher level than just by using our usual anti-bac spray. The carpet is one of Brinton's finest (and is beige not white) and we expect guests to remove their shoes on entry...why wouldn't we? Surely they would do this in their own home. Any guest unwilling to do this are not welcome in our property. In any event, they did not remove their shoes as there was dog excrement walked all up the stairs which had to be vacuumed out and disinfected prior to the arrival of the incoming guests. It would have been nice to have been informed about the mess prior to their departure. The lamps to which they refer are antique bases and have been wired in accordance with modern standards. The lighting is designed to give a romantic boutique ambiance. The room was booked by a third party and we informed them that it was not suitable for elderly people...which it is not. The stairs are very steep (and have a rail that can be easily clasped) and are clearly not suitable but the agent did not seem to think it was an issue at the time of booking. I would suggest that the elderly and infirm avoid the Brunyee room. Parking in Padstow is at a premium – any parking is a bonus. Our parking for 3 cars is very tight...and we explain this to all guests who receive a text in advance of their arrival offering them assistance with parking. There is also limited on-street parking should guests feel the spaces are too tight. However, we have had 2 Teslas and a T6 VW van parked side by side with no issues. It just requires guests to be able to use their mirrors and locate 'Reverse' which is a common feature on most modern cars. Due to their age and frailty, I advised the guests to use the side gate when re-entering the property as this has a handrail to enable the infirm to safely enter the property. Padstow is not cashing in...it has become one of the most desirable places in which to holiday and this is reflected in the prices of not only hotels but also houses. These guests got the room at a slightly reduced rate as it is generally £299-315 at this time of year. These guests are obviously not used to paying premium prices for premium accommodation in a premium location. We benchmark our prices with other similar properties in Padstow and aim to be at the median level. The guests stated that they had a very nice stay in a pub with sweets in a jar and biscuits in the room. That is not in line with our style or target market. We leave the 'cheap and cheerful' approach to others. We are a magnificent Georgian property that costs a great deal to maintain and this ongoing maintenance is reflected in our pricing. The prices include the cost of the top of the range bed-linen, the furnishings and the other items that make Coswarth such a luxurious place to stay. I think the guests were seeking something from a bygone age and would have preferred a more traditional B&B. They are obviously out of touch with modern decor and 21st century pricing…particularly in upscale areas such as Padstow. It is obvious that the level of sophistication and sheer luxury of Coswarth House was lost on these guests. We really only cater for the sophisticated traveller. I think this review will be very useful to future travellers and I would like to thank the guests for enabling me to clarify the type of guest that we hope to accommodate here at Coswarth House. I would also urge all guests looking for a 'traditional B&B' to look elsewhere. We also state this on our website.

Our visit to Padstow was purely to eat at Paul Ainsworths No. 6 (re-arranged from lockdown weekend), but our stay turned out to be so much more than a restaurant visit. We stayed in the Veranda room and our whole stay was absolutely spot on. Mark was a fabulous, friendly host with attention to detail paramount. The room was spotless and the welcome bottle of fizz a lovely touch. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom beautifully fitted out. It was great to be able to park on site and the garden was a great place to sit and have a drink whilst viewing the estuary across to Rock.
Breakfast is at Rick Steins Cafe and that was thoroughly enjoyed every morning. Delicious choices, superb tea and coffee and the best smoothie I've ever had. All a sort walk away down into the town. You are far enough away to be clear of any noise but close enough to walk in to the various restaurants and bars in Padstow within 5 minutes.
This is a gem of a place to stay and thoroughly recommended. See you again Mark!

It was honestly perfect! We spent 6 nights at the cottage at Coswarth House and we couldn't have asked for a better stay, location or host. Every single detail was finished to an exceptional standard. It's a stones throw away from Padstow harbour and has incredible views from the cottage. Mark was so welcoming and was always on hand to answer any questions or offer recommendations - it was a pleasure to meet you and stay in your beautiful cottage, thank you so much for an incredible stay!

I have absolutely no idea how any of the below guests could find fault and give Coswarth House anything other then 5*.

Well what can I say other than perfect!! Mark is an outstanding host who goes out of his way to ensure anything you need is achieved. We were rather needy for the first few days as my husband is quite disabled, however Mark acquired everything we asked for and more. The perfect boutique accommodation which was very classy. You could see a lot of cost, effort and thought had gone into the soft furnishings. The location of Coswarth House could not be better placed to not only have a spectacular view of the estuary but also relatively easy walk into the centre of Padstow. I have used the word relatively only because my husband is disabled if you are not disabled I would just say an easy short hill. The breakfast at St Petroc’s Bistro was outstanding I feel so lucky that Coswarth House B&B came with this. I have to say we felt it was slightly more than just a B&B and can understand why they use the words B&B hotel.

We would highly recommend staying here and if we ever visit the beautiful Padstow again we will be checking in nowhere else but Coswarth House.

We stayed here for 2 nights in September to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We had such a lovely time. The location is perfect being just a few minutes stroll to the harbour and all of padstow’s great spots. The room was beautiful and felt very luxurious. REAL coffee and fresh milk, it’s the little things that make a difference! Mark was a brilliant host, from before we arrived right through to the end of our stay he was communicative, approachable and really did make the difference. Nothing was too much trouble. Thanks Mark! We will certainly be back again. Jess and Dudley Waldron.

We had an amazing time staying at Coswarth House! The boutique room was really beautiful and spotless and the bed was super comfy. We had everything we needed for the perfect stay. The shower was really powerful with lovely luxury products and I enjoyed the deep claw foot bath looking out over the sea.

What a fabulous find. We had such a lovely time in the Veranda Room. The decor is gorgeous, the location is perfect as 2 minutes walk from the centre of Padstow. Mark, the owner was so accommodating as we only booked 3 days prior to arrival and due to COVID the hotel had not yet opened this summer but he came back to us within minutes allowing us to have the room. We will definitely be back and highly recommend.
