Visited with friends on a Monday lunchtime. We were located outside but under cover which was just as well sionce it was cold and persistently raining... There are heaters blasting away pretty silently and rugs were provided at all seats so no real shivering issue.

There's a very long drive from the entrance to the car park so pack a snack.

Interestingly (for some perhaps) the car park offers several electric chargeing points, whether they are for flagging diners or their cars I'm uncertain.

Upon entering the impressive pile of a country mansion we were made very welcome. The waiting staff were all dressed similarly and were very polite and friendly with what I am sure were genuine smiles. Despite the location the service and restaurant itself gave the impression of being unpretentious in what are pretentious surroundings which was great.

I was impressed with the washroom 'facilities' which were all in the same location but designated as 'Sows' and 'Boars' lest there be any confusion. As khazis go, I have to say that these were most impressive as was the louder than soft piped music, presumably that helped cover any potential embarrassments....

As regards the food, we went for the 25 mile menu. Amongst the four of us we opted for three Fillet of Hake and one beef Featherblade.

Along with various accompaniments everything was excellent and we all agreed that the choices we'd made were spot-on.

With a couple of choclate puddings (one with extra cream) and a tart, a most enjoyable meal was complete.

One minor irritation however was the standard inclusion of a 12.5% service charge. We will always pay a tip direct to the serving staff if, in our opinion, deserved and do not need prompting in this regard. Of course, whilst it does say 'discretionary' it's a momentum thing where the owners rely on the embarrassment factor of the diner. We had no problem with any embarrassment and asked for the discretionary service charge to be removed which they did. We then paid a cash tip. Only a very minor irritation and ot something that will influence a further visit I'm sure.

After the meal, the rain had stopped for a moment and so we took a turn around the extensive kitchen garden - excellent.

Would strongly recommend a visit particularly for a special occasion.

This is an excellent country house hotel with glorious views, facilities and grounds. We enjoyed the modern and relaxed ambience during 2 nights in a “Comfy” where we had a choice of a 2nd floor mansion location but chose a ground floor stable courtyard room. This was furnished in a quirky antique style with a fantastic 6’ bed. The lighting was too dim for reading in bed and there were other minor issues, such as a broken radiator control, congested parking and the steep steps from the house to the room.
We were quite impressed with overall Covid-19 protections, with all staff wearing masks and distancing observed, although we noticed that the dining tables were not wiped down between guest changes. We did not like the hotel’s objective of guests making menu choices from online phone menues and it was not at all clear that paper versions could be obtained. In fact the breakfast Reno’s well explained (e.g no mention of cereals being available). The food quality at both dinner and breakfast was excellent, but then the price requires that it should be. Overall, we felt that the value for money was good, although drinks were inevitably expensive. The service was definitely 5* from all the staff we encountered with a special mention for Chris for his arrival welcome and waiter Bobby for his charm and helpfulness. The Pig blows away the formality of hospitality (e.g staff in jeans and trainers)!
Despite our few issues , to which we would add a grumpy note over the 4pm check-in, we fully recommend.

We arrived at the Pig at Combe without any issues as this time we had sorted out the optimal sat nav route; this was our second stay at this Pig and our fifth visit to various Pig locations.
We were warmly greeted by Faye who assisted us to get to our room which was #22 overlooking the courtyard. The room was excellent with a freestanding bath, a monsoon shower, a very large room space with a comfortable and large bed.
We were able to take advantage of lunch and had the pollock, plaice, a garden salad, thrice fried chips with an excellent Muscadet with a dessert of the chocolate mousse with cherry sorbet topping and the rhubarb with custard ice-cream desserts.
Our party of 6 arrived for a family dinner which was a taste experience, we had various starters the most popular being the scallops, which were perfect, the mussels were great and the tasty salmon.
The special was brill fish which again was beautifully cooked; the other mains were steak, pollock, venison and plaice. The accompanying Muscadet and Gamay wines were an excellent choice and complimented the mains and starters. The desserts were the chocolate mousse, cheese board, treacle tart and rhubard & custard ice cream.
The Pig was very busy for the evening service but the staff coped very well ensuring that the food arrived on time for everyone and there was a minimal wait especially considering the restaurant was full.
The morning breakfast service was completely full but we were served swiftly after a short wait and the pig out breakfast set us all up for the day!
As always the Pig delivers excellent customer service, food, drink and a superb atmosphere; this is our second family visit to the Pig at Combe and we have always been impressed.

Booked for a celebration lunch. We arrived, but no seats available in bar for drinks, taken into restaurant and given a la carte menu. We waited and waited, but no offer of drinks! We then asked for the set lunch menu - both menus should be given at the same time!
Good points, our waiter who was spanish was very good, helpful, chatty and organised.
Not so good points - husband was on a very rickety chair. The wine we chose was £35 a bottle, but on set lunch menu, same wine was £39!
Food was average, fish was excellent and rump steak cooked to perfection and greens were good. The thrice cooked chips were dry and unappetising.
Mint tea was made with bags! Surely you can provide fresh mint!
Based on this experience, not sure we will return.

We found the location to be quiet and secluded with nice recommended 3.75 or 6 mile walks. The food was really excellent and locally sourced - it was the highlight of our stay. The gardens were interesting and it was great to see the work they put into growing their own produce. The room was comfortable and well appointed but look out for rooms where there is another room above, as it can be very noisy. The staff was helpful, polite and engaging. All in all, we had a lovely stay but felt the rooms aspect was quite expensive: £900 for two nights including food and drinks (for the most basic but one room) is a lot.

Wow.

How has this place not got full marks?! It is INCREDIBLE!!!!

The people are sooooo friendly, and you can instantly feel the difference in ambience from a ‘silver service’ hotel. You’re greeted on first name terms and treated respectfully but as though you’re part of the hotels family. They remember every detail about you (my husband had mentioned on booking that I was allergic to tomatoes and every time I ordered food the server knew in advance and offered to check. In fact the chef made me a different sauce for one meal), nothing is too much trouble.

The Potting Shed is a wonderful experience. As a treat I had a 1hr bespoke massage with Gill, who has been with The Pig for years (and Combe Manor before that) and she enthused about what a wonderful place the hotel is and how well treated the staff are. You can tell.

The rooms are incredible with a careful curation of objet all in keeping with the hotel’s distinct style - meaning there’s always plenty to keep you amused and interested.

And now the food.... simply divine. Fresh, flavourful, beautifully presented.

I just wish we could do this all the time.... but boy is it a welcome treat.

The staff are welcoming, professional but relaxed and from the minute you arrive you feel welcomed and valued. The decor is quirky and makes the whole stay feel like an experience. We stayed in one of the stable rooms and it was cosy but had all the amenities you would need and some you don't always get like cocktails, sweets, biscuits and other treats available in the fridge and small larder. Obviously these are an additional cost but was a nice touch. The bathroom with the beautiful freestanding bath was lovely and the bed was extremely comfortable. We enjoyed a delicious meal in the restaurant with a good wine recommended by the knowledgeable sommelier. The staff showed their excellent training and teamwork on our last morning when there was a small fire in the cellar and the hotel had to be evacuated. They kept all the guests informed, supplied blankets, hot drinks and food whilst we waited outside for the all clear and were calm throughout the whole event. The only very minor negative comments I would make are the cold breakfast buffet, whilst fresh and varied is a little overpriced at £13.50 per head and we were not aware the Folly would be booked for a private party until we went there for a drink in the evening. It would have been helpful to have included that information in the email that was sent a few days before we arrived or had a sign on reception to advise guests. Very much looking forward to returning in the future.

A great hotel in a beautiful location. We arrived to a lovely welcome from the staff who were all great throughout our stay. Our room in the stable block was very spacious and comfortable with a free standing bath in the bedroom and separate monsoon shower. The bar area and lounges with roaring fires were great to relax in with a huge selection of drinks . The guilty gardener cocktail is highly recommended . At breakfast we were spoilt for choice and the food at dinner was delicious. What made our stay special and made the Pig stand out from similar hotels was the staff especially on reception who called us by our names throughout . The hotel is in lovely grounds with great views and the beaches at Lyme Regis and Sidmouth only a short drive away where we enjoyed lovely walks on the beach .

This was our second visit. The first was somewhat disappointing . On the first occasion we were actually served our main course on the table even though we had ordered starters and it took three attempts to get the bill correct.

But we were keen to try again. On our first visit we checked whether they had any gluten free beers as we wanted to return with a celiac. We were told there were three different ones on offer . So, we came back and of course the ambiance is amazing.

We went off the set menu as it was a special occasion and we had family visiting from Australia one of whom was gluten intolerant . We were told there no gluten free beers available!

No piggy bits either even though they are part of the set menu This seems strange as you obviously pay more if you choose a la carte.
The starters were delicious and the service attentive and excellent.

But the Gurnard was really overcooked and totally tasteless. Of course we should have quietly called the waiter and sent it back... but you don’t when you are out for a special luncheon. So, we left totally in love with the ambience, the setting etc but totally underwhelmed by the food, cost and lack of dietary needs . Sad really!

It was a wonderful break! I couldn’t recommend this hotel more for relaxing one night escape from the routine. My husband and I had a lovely time and it exceeded all our expectations.
The staff were brilliant, they were all very helpful and worked really hard to make the guests feel welcome in these challenging times where eye contact is so important when wearing a mask.
We booked a cozy room, so I knew it would be the smallest, and I was pleasantly surprised. It was furnished beautifully, it had everything we needed, the bathroom (particularly the shower) was amazing and the bed was large and comfortable. The mini bar was well stocked for post 10pm drinks and the coffee machine was top notch. didn’t want anything else from the room.
Breakfast was managed really well, despite the changes from a buffet to table service. There was so much room for spreading out.
The food, wine (lovely bottle of French white from Bergerac) and infused vodkas were delicious
Thank you for a really enjoyable stay.

If you going at the end of July the Sidmouth Regatta and Airshow will be on. Other than that Lyme Regis is t too far to drive or taxi and has some lovely micro breweries you can check out and great places to eat! Check out The Lyme Bay for great food/drink at lunch/dinner and Swim for a breakfast or coffee overlooking the beach and the Lyme Regis Brewery. Hope you have a fab trip!
