Hi there, I feel your comments are slightly harsh coming 7 months after your stay as there is very little I can do about this now. My apologies for the issues which occurred regarding your stay with us, we hope for all guests to have a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Our policy which is clearly stated on booking.com is that you have free cancellation 2 weeks or more in advance of your booking. We take one nights stay as a deposit 14 days before arrival to guarantee your booking. This is as we will find it very difficult to re let this room we have reserved for you in such short notice. I think you will find this quite the norm in hotels all over the UK. Abroad you will most likely pay the full amount at the time of the booking which is totally non refundable. The issue of being over charged was of course a mistake on our end which I can only apologise for, however I am sure you will have been asked to provide us with bank statement evidence of the charges which once we can verify there has been a mistake be fully refunded. Refunds can take 3-5 working days to process whereas payments are more immediate this will likely have been a factor in the delay of your refund. Regarding your meal, you were given complimentary bread and aperitif in which you have attached pictures of. I'm not sure I understand your complaint were you charged for an extra starter or you were charged for a starter? if its the latter of course you will be charged for your starter and it definitely was on the menu. If in error we put an extra starter on your bill you could have quite easily upon checking your bill informed us of the mistake and it be rectified or at least nearer the time rather than 7 months on. Dear Guest, I am sorry you were not happy with your most recent experiences, we hope for all guests to have a relaxing and enjoyable stay. We are very sorry we could not accommodate you or our other customers who had booked Christmas day lunch with us however we were left in a tricky spot with our chefs leaving us in November, despite trying we were unable to find a replacement. This left us with no choice but to cancel. We then gave everyone as much notice as possible that we would be closed for Christmas. The owners were very upset with the forced closure and letting people down as this is the first time in 11 years the hotel has been closed. As our hotel is a 17th century building we do not have central heating it is electric these are usually switched on before guests arrival but they do heat up very quickly anyway. Our duvets are TOG 10.5 which middle ground between the TOG 4.5 summer and TOG 13.5 winter duvet, we also have extra blankets in all rooms if guests feel they require them. We have a whole new team now who are dedicated to making the Mariners hotel an amazing place to stay. Since re-opening our restaurant we have had nothing but first class compliments to the chef, and our new housekeeping team have worked tirelessly on deep-cleaning all areas of the hotel. I'm disappointed you didn't bring any of these issues to our attention during your stay, this way they could have been rectified and ensured you had an enjoyable stay. Regards Leo (general manager)

Hotel is on the outskirts of the town (10 minutes walk downhill).The staff were friendly, helpful and wecoming. The room was very clean and well presented. The food in the restaurant was exceptional. I would highly recommend this hotel.
