My partner and I are planning our wedding for June 2017, and we decided to ‘try before we buy' the local to hotels in and around Saffron Walden. We needed somewhere that was good value for money, without compromising on quality. We thought that following a one-night stay, that it was worth a review on here. The hotel is right...

My wife and I have now eaten lunch at this town centre hotel on four occasions over the last few months. Each time we have been greatly impressed by a) the helpfulness of all the staff b) their efficiency c) the considerable variety of choice on the prix fixe menu d) how much that menu alters each time we attend...

Tired rooms, helpful staff, restaurant / bar food excellent very limited parking, OK for one or two days only. Value for money no but inline with similar accommodation in area, spoilt by US and Asian hotel facilities and cost.

Not the greatest place I've ever stayed in.Certainly not the worst.Miniscule availability for car parking.Rooms in desperate need of sprucing up.Staff very friendly though and it's right in the middle of town.Breakfast was ok.No frills but served a purpose.

Stayed with a friend in a standard twin room. The room was tired and in need of refurbishment, but very clean and staff were helpful. The car park has only 3 spaces, so to say it has free car parking is a bit misleading!

A nice place to spend a night. Comfortable room, good food and very friendly and helpful staff. Yes, there wasn't much parking space as some have commented, but I got in there no trouble. I would certainly recommend this place.

Stayed here for one night whilst attending a function. Very central to the town, Evening meal was very acceptable as catering for 60plus. Breakfast was usual Full English with several other options, Only down side is the parking only room for four cars, I believe other public parking within walking distance

There is a live jazz group here once a month so went to see this and decided to eat first. I understand there is a new chef and the food was great. Between six of us, we had the steak and ale pie, sea bass and lamb shank, all of which were excellent. The sea bass was beautifully cooked, the...

We called into The Saffron for lunch and were pleased to find that it was not so busy as other bars and restaurants in Saffron Walden that we could not get into. The place is quite nicely laid out and has the feeling more of a hotel bar than a normal bar which we were quite happy with. The staff...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Saffron Walden takes the second parts of its name from the threatening fortification of Walden Castle, erected by the Normans after the Conquest, and the first from the rare and precious saffron crocus, for which the town became famous, used in medicine, cooking and as the source of a rich yellow dye. The hotel has 16 en-suite bedrooms (all 100% non smoking) which all have tea/coffee and ironing facilities. The hotel also has a paneled Restaurant and Lounge/Bar area.
