Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed in Drake Lodge on this site and found the lodge really good value for money. It was clean, everything matched (no bits of crockery or cutlery to make up numbers) and the whole place was decorated with care, right down to the lovely duck (drake) ornaments dotted around the place. Complementary tea, coffee, chocolate, milk and washing up liquid was an additional welcome touch, which added to the overall experience. It sported a Smart TV and there was plenty of room for us (my husband and I) and our lovely labrador, who settled immediately. It's sited on a small plot at the end of the site and is fully fenced and is equipped with a patio table and chairs, so if, like us, you are fortunate to get good weather, the door can be left open for your dog to wander in and out at leisure (or just lie on the small patio area and soak up the sun). The previous review has mentioned the view and the positioning of the lodge as not being very scenic but, if like us, you want the peace and quiet and just want to sit outside and enjoy the sun without being disturbed, it's perfect. The site is situated down a rather steep hill, so getting up is a bit of a climb, but again, we are in our late 60s and managed it ok, with a little stop half way up to sit on the bench and take in the view. Remember the beauty of Staithes is that it is a small fishing harbour and so once you go up the hill you turn left and go down another hill to the harbour .... and repeat coming back. You can use your car and park at the top, but there is a charge of around £4.00 for around 3 hours. Cars are not allowed into Staithes itself unless you are a resident. There is a Co-op nearby (around 10/15 mins walk) just turn right at the top of the hill, left at the end and it is further up on the left. Dog walks are again up the hill, cross over the road and go up into the cul-de-sac next to the Church (first turning). At the end of the cul-de-sac are lots of dog walks that take you around Staithes, and dogs can go off lead which is a real bonus. We were only there for a few days so did not get to explore all the walks .... but there's always next time! Summing up, Staithes is a lovely place with a small amount of pubs, ice cream shops and a dog friendly beach that is well worth a visit and I would certainly recommend Drake Lodge as a place to stay if you want comfort, peace and quiet and even though the site is a little 'tired' it adds to its charm. We'll certainly be returning!

Nice clean lodge but no outlook except rear of the lodge opposite. Photos of this lodge have been carefully taken for marketing. Building next to lodge on right over fence is tatty and unpleasant to be next to, needs external renovation work. At entrance to site is a shabby uninhabited building also in need of external renovation. No obvious Reception signs, no obvious water safety advice and aids by the beck. Internally the lodge is smart, clean and nicely furnished.

Fabulous place and amazing little lodge. Almost don't want to tell too many people but the friendly owners deserve a great review. Great village and also surrounding area and fab walks, pubs, region. Easy walk along the beck to the village and also access to the Cleveland way. Totally cosy lodge, clean and amazing wood log burner. Our little baby loved snoozing by the log burner. Lovely and clean and don't be put off by the hill. Not that bad and you can also drive up and leave a car in the car park at the top if you like. Will defo be back. Thanks for having us x x

We strayed for 4 nights in Deer lodge. The cottage was very clean , and the owner Kim had left us a basket with tea/coffee/ biscuits/milk/jam. Also a bottle of wine which was very nice. We loved the fire which was very easy to get going, and heated the radiators in the cottage as well as the hot water. The bed was very comfortable, the shower was also great very powerful, couldn’t fault the cottage everything was perfect. Ask Kim for more logs for the fire which she left in the log store she was very helpful. Staithes was a very nice village, we ate twice in the Cod & Lobster & both meals were excellent. You are only 11 miles away from Whitby & 8 miles away from saltburn which was ours and dogs favourite place great dog beach & free parking on top road. We are happy to recommend the Deer Lodge.

We have just returned from a weeks stay in Drake Lodge. The lodge was immaculate and very cosy with everything you need. It's tucked away so lovely and peaceful. Kim was very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed walking into Staithes to eat and the Cod and Lobster was excellent. We will definitely be back next year.

We stayed in Drake Lodge on Staithes chalet and caravan park, park is not full of modern caravans but full of character with hidden gems round every corner. Lodge was modern and very comfortable and had everything required for a great stay. Kim is a great host and quickly sorted minor issue we had. Staithes is lovely village and walk along cliff top to Runswick Bay was amazing. Would definitely recommend

Well what can I say. What a wonderful little break. We stayed in Woodland Lodge, and simply cannot fault it. The lodge was warm, immaculate and tastefully furnished. The complimentary basket was a lovely touch, the shower was amazing and the site was quiet. We thoroughly enjoyed Staithes. A ten minute walk took you through the gorgeous village and down to the colourful, picturesque harbour. We will definitely be booking again. Xxx

My husband and I have just returned from a short break staying in Drake Cottage. The cottage is at the end of the site and really quiet although the site itself is in a quiet location. It's a lovely modern cottage with everything you could need. The large bed is comfortable. The shower cubicle is large. There's a nice little patio out front with chairs and a table. The owners are obviously having to make a lot of changes at the moment because of Covid-19 but are dong their best. Kim is welcoming and helpful. The hill into the village is quite steep but we soon got used to it . I hope we will stay there again in future.

Stayed in Pheasant Lodge for a 4 night break 6-10th July 2020. We had a really great time, the lodge was very clean, well equipped and extremely comfortable. The enclosed patio area at the back was a real sun trap and great if you have your dog with you as we did. The area is so beautiful with loads of amazing beaches to explore. Fab food, great walks, peace and quiet, lovely owners.... Perfect!
