Hubby and I are just home from a 2 night stay at Newburgh House. We arrived and were met by Andy, who was welcoming and attentive. We were soon tucking into an afternoon tea overlooking the garden. We stayed in the ‘Charlotte’ room, very spacious with a view overlooking the road and open countryside. No problems with the road as we did not hear any traffic. The room was well appointed with a tv, hair dryer, kettle, tea, coffee and home-made delicious shortbread. The special little touches like magazines, fresh milk flask and the shortbread make all the difference. The en-suite bathroom was very spacious with a bath/shower, toilet and sink. The bed was comfortable and we had a great nights sleep. The lounge area was lovely, big roaring fire with a book and video library for residents to use. Breakfast menu offered a good range of cooked food and there was homemade fresh fruit salad available. Andy and Ryan are doing a fantastic job. Their local knowledge and recommendations were great. We would thoroughly recommend Newburgh House and Andy and Ryan as hosts.

This is a well-run guest house. It's owners obviously take a pride in customer service. Some thoughtful 'extra' touches along with lovely premises and a warm, clean and spacious room make this a place to revisit.
Breakfast offer good in range and quality, though portions a bit meagre.
We didn't need it but there's a large comfortable guest lounge with open fire.
The location just outside the village of Coxwold is great for walks and historic sites. The pub in the village serves meals and is a 10 minute walk.
All in all, a very pleading weekend!

Just had a lovely two day stay at Newburgh House B&B. We had a groupon voucher which was very good value and included an afternoon tea and full English breakfasts. The house is full of character and beautifully decorated. The hosts Andy and Ryan were so friendly and welcoming. The afternoon tea was all homemade and delicious as was the excellent breakfasts. We found the room very comfortable and slept very well there is also a very large charming lounge. The covid precautions in place were well thought out and we felt very safe. We would definitely stay there again.

We were 'nice' about this as we were leaving but get real boys, this was nothing like on your photographs. Four tiny triangles of tasteless cheese spread and cucumber sandwiches, plain scones with Rodda's clotted cream and blackcurrant jam to top - blackcurrant! What?
Quiche too sloppy. Fudge cake sickly, dollop of butter cream on top of the lemon sponge buns topped with a dried out piece of lemon. Coffee weak and insipid.
A clean white table cloth would have made the spread look somewhat better.
!!! No, this really isn't good enough !!!
My partner and I have had some lovely afternoon tea and we have a book full of amazing places to visit and enjoy the like.
We had an overnight stay in Helmsley at the Feversham Arms. Visits to various locations on Thursday and Friday. This was to cap off our visit to the Wolds. Well it was a let down!
Then we struggled home through busy Friday afternoon traffic.
Oh Dear! Oh Dear! Oh Dear!

Marc & Iris, We're so sorry that you didn't enjoy your afternoon tea with us, but we would much rather that you had been honest with us at the time rather than being 'nice' about it as you were leaving. That way we would have had the opportunity to rectify things there and then. Sandwiches, jam, cakes and coffee can easily be changed so as to ensure that your experience here at Newburgh House was as good as everybody else's seem to be, judging by their reviews. Unfortunately we cannot do anything about the Friday afternoon traffic.

Please note I have not stayed in this location its merely the poor customer service and false advertising I experienced which has led to this review and me cancelling my reservation.

I booked this hotel through Expedia to attend an event down in Ampleforth in July. Using the reserve now pay on arrival. I then over the next few days had several attempts to take the full amount from my account. I attempted to call the property and messaged them through Expedia's contact the hotel option. I could not get through and had no response. Finally this morning another attempt was made to take the money. I went through Expedia customer services who then contacted the hotel. The hotel noted that they wanted the money and if I did not pay before the end of the month they would cancel my booking. I cancelled the reservation then as this is not a hotel I wish to give my money to especially when they advertised a pay on arrival option but had no intention of fulfilling that.

I leave this review so that the hotel can either work on this feedback and use the option they are advertising as 'pay on arrival' or remove this from their Expedia so it is reservations only rather than taking money from customers when they are not ready for this. For me there is false advertising on here and I wont be using this hotel in the future as a result.

Hi Stephen, We're sorry to hear that you decided not to stay with us here at Newburgh House and felt the need to write a TripAdvisor review without even visiting our Bed & Breakfast. We are also a little confused as to how you can score us 3 out of 5 for cleanliness having not even seen the property. With regards to your issue with payment, you are correct that Expedia offers a 'reserve now, pay at property option'. This is something that Expedia has put in place without our knowledge, however your confirmation email which you recieved from us immediately upon booking does state TWICE that payment will be taken by us at the time of booking or at the earliest convenience. This is in line with our booking and payment policy which has been in place for a number of years now without any issues from other guests. If you had read the confirmation email properly and still didn't want to make payment for your room at that time then maybe it would've been prudent to cancel your booking at that point. With regards to trying to get in touch with us we do have an answerphone facility for guests trying to call although we recieved no message from you, otherwise we would've returned your call. When we heard from Expedia we explained our bookings and payments policy and informed them that had we not recieved payment by the end of the month then we would've contacted them for further guidance or contacted yourself for an alternative means of payment. The best way to avoid this type of confusion (and to help small independent businesses) would always be to book directly with the accommodation that you wish to stay at. This avoids the 'middleman' who exists only to draw finances away from the independent business. Kind regards

Spent 3 days last week on a '3 nights for the price of 2' offer at Newburgh House B&B with my husband. It was our second visit and was just as relaxing as the first. The hosts Andy and Ryan are very friendly and welcoming and made us feel at home. The breakfasts are lovely with plenty of choice and we had an evening meal there this time which was tasty and very good value. My husband particularly enjoyed the cottage pie and I absolutely loved the lemon posset. There was home baked brownie bites or shortcake on our replenished tea making tray everyday which is a lovely touch. Our room was large and comfortable and the whole house is full of character. The experience was enhanced by the hosts pet dogs and cats who are as friendly as their owners. We definitely recommend Newburg House and I'm sure we will be making a third visit.

A lovely bed and breakfast in a beautiful rural location but also not far places to visit. It's a little dated but this adds to the charm. We had a large room and bathroom, lots of space, with views over the pretty garden, the chicken run, and the fields out the front. It was very clean, with the tea tray refreshed every morning and fresh milk and brownie bites provided. The bed is the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in, when away. A very helpful host and breakfast was delicious especially the fresh eggs! The only thing I'm not keen on is having to choose the night before, as I never know what I want then. But I can see why it's done. Overall a lovely 2 nights stay and would definitely stay again.

From arrival to departure we received a first class service from Andy and Ryan.

Perfectionists in everything from the cleanliness of the bedrooms, the service, warm and friendly atmosphere and food is second to none.

We will be returning again and plan to bring others with us!

The location is perfect, not too far from York and surrounding villages and a great countryside feel escape.

The service was incredible and you are made to feel very special throughout your stay and this was echoed to every visitor who stayed.

We spoke to other visitors who felt the same way. The food portions are generous and incredible value for money.

This was our first visit, but it won’t be our last!
Thank you both so much!

My family and I had the most amazing and relaxing stay at Newburgh House. Andy and Ryan were nothing but friendly and helpful, even recommending a local establishment to have our evening meal in. Our room was spacious and elegant, and the little finishing touches were beautiful. Our breakfast was exceptional which included the service with the tranquil views of the garden. I loved the teapot which our tea was served in and the homemade bread for our toast was delicious.
My family and I will definitely be returning and I have already recommended this wonderful northern haven to my relatives and friends!

I agree - although the stairs are wide and a fairly low pitch. I have stayed at a number of Wolsey lodges over the last 20 years and this was the worst.
