No major flags just for the money this place was a real letdown. Minimal service or interaction from staff, no wifi or phone signal, pub shut very early and earlier than advertised, no extra effort or signs of attention to detail anywhere, basic poor quality hotel tea/coffee sachets and mini UHT cartons and very cheap mini shower gel tubes, poor shower pressure, room freezing cold when we arrived, breakfast was below average, sausage I had to leave as it was rock hard throughout as though perhaps reheated in a microwave. My wife and I stayed in a few places across a week travelling Northumberland, this was the most expensive and by far the worst stop. Personally, I wouldn't recommend spending your money here.

Our group of eight were wandering around Alnmouth early on a Sunday afternoon looking for a snack lunch and a drink. Finding other pubs either closed or serving drinks only we ended up here, and were pleasantly surprised by the helpful attitude we found. The bar area tables were all full, but we were invited to sit in the dining room where we enjoyed snacks from the main menu and a couple of drinks. There were main meals on the menu which we might have chosen had we not already booked meals at the hotel we were staying at several miles away. The sanwiches and tempura prawns with dip were top quality and delicious. Drinks were reasonably priced. Staff were helpful, friendly and efficient.

Couple o' swift ones, after a longish walk & a cold swim, before going to the fish restaurant opposite. We were staying in Alnmouth Shoreside huts, on the hill behind the golf course, so appreciated the usb phone charger on the bar. We had a cloudy cider & a hoppy pale ale. Both excellent.

Four of us called in for a meal as first choice the Hope & Anchor was closed. We got a warm welcome and sat in the”restaurant” which used to be the pool room. Drinks were ok if a little overpriced and 3 of us chose the pie and 4th had a burger. The pies were all a massive let down and were just a poor standard pie served with oven chips and peas, for the price I expected a lot more. The burger wasn’t bad but nothing out of the ordinary. £80+for the food & 1 1/2 rounds of drinks wasn’t good value. Wouldn’t recommend for food but ok for drinks.

Very disappointed that during our stay early Feb 20203 the kitchen was closed.
Unsure about the title of "deluxe" double rooms?? No quite the "deluxe" we had anticipated. The room was clean, but very tired, really needs new bedroom carpet and bathroom flooring. Room was freezing when we arrived, but did warm up after a few hours.
Bedding and towels were spotless.
Bathroom also spotlessly clean.
No instructions in room on how to use TV, or how to use any other facilities, plus no fire evacuation /alarm instructions, which I thought was compulsory.
Pub was packed on Friday / Saturday and very friendly and helpful staff.
I think the whole place just needs some TLC, outside needs a clean and tidy, new fresh hanging baskets to replace the dead ones.
I would stay here agin.

So disappointed with our meal after reading good reviews on trip advisor. The staff were very warm and welcoming and all was well until the meal arrived. A bland pork loin that was served with bland cabbage and bland potatoes with a very watery sauce. 2 dry fillets of sea bass plonked on top of a bowl of what appeared to be something like birds eye steamed rice garnished with a wedge of lemon! As for pudding the Eton mess cheesecake devoid of meringue and looked like it had come out of a box from Iceland (possibly an insult to Iceland). Very inappropriately priced for the quality of meal and felt completely ripped off.

My husband & I had supper here at the weekend. We ordered the Cheeseburger with all the trimmings and Pork Loin with 'fresh vegetables'. The cheeseburger was dry and overcooked and the 'melting cheese' looked like a burnt crisp. The chips were undercooked and the side salad consisted of lettuce, lots of red onion with one cherry tomato. The Pork Loin was bland and lacked any depth of flavour. The vegetables were overcooked and tasteless.

My family and I ate at The Sun Inn on Wednesday 6th July. We arrived at 7pm and ordered food, 3 starters, 2 main courses, a sandwich and a kids meal. After 2 hours of waiting and several other people coming in after us, eating and leaving, we were approached by the chef to ask if our starters were to be brought out with the main courses!! When we said no, she then said she would go and START making them!! We waited another 30 minutes for only two of the starters and the kids meal to be brought out. They had forgotten about my partners. My daughter and I had finished our starters before my partner's was brought to him! We then had to wait ANOTHER 30 minutes for our main meals to arrive. By this point, none of us wanted to eat, as it was so late. The main meals were tasteless and of very poor quality and definitely not worth the wait. At this point, we had had enough and asked for the bill which came to £85!!! No discount was offered although we had complained. My partner said he was not prepared to pay the price for what we had received and the ridiculous amount of time we waited for the food to arrive!! We asked to speak to the manager but there wasn't one present!!
The fact that it is under new management and I would assume that the manager/boss would want to keep customers happy, we watched him arrive and walk around the place noting how busy and under pressure his (only) 2 members of staff (1 bar member and 1 chef) he then proceeded to walk out and leave them to get on with it!! Not exactly helpful!! They are obviously very under staffed and I felt so unbelievably sorry for the chef and bar member as all they could do was apologise but there was nothing they could do to change the circumstances. The boss was obviously not concerned, he really should be!!

Been going to Alnmouth for years and Sun Inn was our favorite pub for ale and food. We booked three evening meals in advance from 15th August.
On arrival we were told the ownership had changed in May. We soon discovered this place has gone down hill fast.
As we walked to the pub we noticed that all the restaurants were full. We arrived at 7pm and there was only one customer.Absolutely no atmosphere. I understand why now.
The food was awful. My wife ordered chicken tikka which turned out to be a base vegetable curry with some chicken in it, definitely not chicken tikka, I ordered hunters chicken and what I got was a over cooked chicken breast with barbecue sauce poured over the top. We complained to the lady bar staff and she did refund the cost.
If the new owners do not up their game and provide a better quality of food it will struggle to survive.
We did not return to eat again and will not return in future.

the sun inn was an expensive experience. The chef was very welcoming but his food wasn’t the best . the starter was small I ordered garlic mushrooms we had 2 mushrooms and for the scallops there was 3 . The mains came and instantly I could tell the meat wasn’t cooked . 3 family members ordered burgers and the mince looked like it had just come out of the packet . 2 family members had hunters chicken the chicken was still clucking and was pink all the way through . This restaurant has a lack of staff as there was 2 bar tenders and 1 chef . I believe this was due too lack of staff as they were friendly and helpful. Wouldn’t really recommend. 2 stars for friendliness not food!!
