Reviewed yesterday NEW

We had stayed at Shieldaig Lodge many times under 2 sets of previous owners/managers, but had had a break of 9 or 10 years. The Lodge had needed taking in hand and bringing up to date, difficult to do without spoiling the character of the Lodge. The new owners have pretty well succeeded. It was lovely to be back and... The lodge has been beautifully restored with great attention to detail. Our room was spacious, very comfortable and very nicely furnished, with views over the lough. The food was average - nothing special. The manager was very welcoming, but the place lacked the standards of an owner managed small hotel. The staff we encountered varied from inexperienced to seriously lacking... More

We booked a three night midweek stay at the Shieldaig Lodge on the recommendation of a friend who has been there earlier in the year. It did not disappoint. The drive by Loch Maree en route to the hotel is stunning, as is the setting of the Lodge, on the waterfront. We were greeted on arrival by Charmaine and Mearns,... More

This hotel is in a nicely restored heritage building. When we arrived - and throughout our stay - there didn't appear to be anyone in a position of authority, e.g. no onsite management. Our room was on the top (second, I believe) floor with sloping ceilings. There is no lift. The bathroom was tiny but well appointed and functional. The... More

Decided to have a spur of the moment overnight trip to this wonderful part of Scotland. Booked this hotel and I was glad I did. Superb setting and an excellent whisky / gin bar helped complement the exceedingly good dinner. The room was comfortable, if a little small. The bathroom was a cupboard, with virtually no room. That aside I... More

Great location on the Loch and for driving amazing coastal routes in the west Highlands. Good service and food, excellent room and facilities. The area is brilliant with lots of little coastal towns to explore.

Shieldaig Lodge has many virtues, not least its beautiful location and the comfortable and clean room in which we stayed. However we discovered that one young lady appeared to be doing virtually everything: reception, serving breakfast, behind the bar and checking out. Consequently she appeared rushed and her customer service skills were stretched. On arrival we had to ask another... More

My husband and I stayed here for one night. Its very nicely decorated and clean. We stayed in a sea view room which was worth the few extra pounds if you love nothing more than sitting with a coffee/wine in hand taking in the spectacular view! The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. We had dinner in the restaurant... More

My husband and I stayed here for one night during our North Coast 500 trip, and I'd dare say that it was possibly the best hotel experience I've ever had. From the warm welcome we received from the staff upon our arrival, the characterful building with quirky common rooms filled with trinkets and curiosities from times gone by, to the... More

The Shieldaig Lodge is excellent, full stop. But if your benchmark is a Travelodge staffed by Barbi dolls, don't stay here. It is an essentially unaltered Victorian hunting lodge dedicated to field sports. There are no TVs (hurrah) and only one telephone; most of the rooms haven't been redecorated since the late King passed away; there is no choice at... More
