We were warmly welcomed in this lovely old inn. The service was excellent as was the food and wines. They served a very good affogato, espresso coffee over vanilla ice cream, as a finale ! We all had a thoroughly enjoyable meal and we will be back.

We took the opportunity of a free four days between the Christmas and the New Year festivities to stay in Sussex, partly so that my husband could walk a section of the South Downs Way, and partly so that we could revisit the Mary Rose exhibition in Portsmouth - having first seen the ship in 1983. Chichester is very nearby,...

There's a pleasant, unpretentious ambience about the pub/dining room. Food was good in parts with generous portions but the tastiest moments were all fishy including smoked salmon, mackerel and roasted hake. The steak and kidney special dish was ordinary and the dessert of Earl Grey sponge and raspberry had evidently come too recently out of the freezer. The wine list...

We rang for a table at short notice after having been let down elsewhere and they happily obliged by accommodating 5 adults and a baby. It was a good choice as the service was very friendly and the food enjoyable. The Burger was very popular as was the fish and chips. The sweets were very tasty too.Nice cosy ambiance as well with...

We booked a family meal for a large party of 17 and we were very disappointed. The roast beef was particularly disappointing, very tough and in some cases inedible. When we pointed this out to the manager he wasn't sure how to deal with it? Instead of offering a replacement meal he took the plate back and then returned with...

So to mark a major event I returned to the Royal Oak. My first visit was excellent and I hoped that after 6 years standards hadn't slipped. Pleased to say that they have maintained the previous high level and if possible the food was even better. So have decided to return in another 6 years. All the staff are courteous...

We stopped by at the Royal Oak for dinner after goodwood ladies day. I chose the seafood platter which was generous and delicious loved it. It's reasonably priced an we were glad to be seated without a booking considering it was very busy. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We went for Sunday lunch today (4 adults and 2 children) and it was superb! We took some Spanish friends who were visiting us for the weekend as they had asked to go to a typical English pub and they were very impressed with what they saw. It was very busy when we arrived (we had booked in advance) but...

We stayed in this hotel for three nights to visit Chichester. It is very conveniently located not far from the main road north of Chichester and not far from Goodwood. A lot of the local attractions are within easy reach - into Chichester or the South Downs. east Lavant is nevertheless a quiet and charming village. There are good walks...

We had booked a cottage for a 3 night stay. Upon arriving in our accommodation, (Blackberry) we could notice a strong smell of damp in the downstairs living room. Given that two of our party suffer from asthma, we tried our best to acclimatise to the smell, but were worried about our chests. I popped over to the pub and...
