Travellers' Choice
The Cross Keys provides a warm and friendly welcome to its guests and excellent service from attentive, friendly staff. The hotel is an ideal centre for business or pleasure situated in a peaceful corner of Scotland, yet still within easy reach of Edinburgh and Newcastle. The hotel is in the heart of Kelso’s picturesque French-styled cobbled square. The present hotel was built in 1769, but in other forms, a Cross Keys Hotel has occupied the site since the earliest days of Scottish Coaching Inns. Today, the hotel provides a comfortable and convenient base to explore all that Kelso and the Scottish Borders has to offer. So, whether it's a relaxing break or an action-packed holiday that you are looking for, the Cross Keys can be enjoyed by all.

Yes it is as challenging as you fear it could be. I have not eaten there, my bravery vanished on arrival. The next decent meal can be had in Melrose. I had a superior room, and can confirm the superiority refers to its price only. However, the staff is very friendly.

Thank you for your review, and your kind words for our staff. From your other reviews, we can see that three stars is a very favourable score for you- so do appreciate this kindness. It is a shame you didn't dine with us, as our restaurant is one of our best assets. Hopefully on your next visit you will dine in-house to experience it for yourself.

I won a Facebook competition for a night away at the Cross Keys Hotel, including breakfast and £20 towards dinner in the restaurant. We were welcomed to a spacious junior suite with a four poster bed and a large TV. We had dinner on the Saturday night in the Saddlers restaurant and it was BEAUTIFUL. The food was delicious. Due to Covid we couldn't sit and enjoy the bar for the night but with wine for the room was good enough for us. Thank you so much for the prize we really enjoyed our night away during these strange times - we would definitely return!

Stayed for just one night on the 3rd November 2020 but could easily have stayed longer Staff are all so welcoming and optimistic. From the moment we arrived to the minute we left, it was smiles all round and nothing was too much trouble, even though they were all under the stress of C-19. All the best from a pair of happy punters! See you again soon

Looking forward to meeting up with a friend for coffee yesterday but was very disappointed with our morning coffee. Only 2 types of scones available, plain or cheese. Ok, I was happy enough to go for plain and my friend cheese. If only they had been baked enough. Mine was heavy and doughy. My friend's cheese scone did not contain cheese but just had a sprinkling on top. It was also very heavy. Very, very disappointing

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are sorry to hear that you found your visit disappointing. While we do tend to offer two types of scone a day, the flavours change daily to ensure a good weekly selection, and we often ask our locals for feedback on which flavours they would be interested in. We do hope it doesn't put you off returning.

My wife and I stayed overnight at the Cross Keys recently. We dined in and enjoyed a meal in Saddler's restaurant. The quality of the meals was first class; we enjoyed delicious, freshly cooked local produce of the highest standard. The service we received was extremely friendly, efficient and professional. What is also worth stating, in these very difficult, almost surreal times, is that it was very re-assuring to witness such a totally focused approach in regard to stringent hygiene and current enhanced health and safety regulations. Well done to the entire team at the Cross Keys.
