Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nicole and Johnathan are wonderful, friendly and professional hosts. We loved our stay at Brewery House - the room was perfect; bed was massive and very comfortable; breakfast options were great and very nicely cooked (esp. the poached eggs!) and the items of pottery were brilliant too. Would love to stay again 😍

We thought our two nights were nice and we seemed to have pleasant chats with Nicole and Jonathan. But I received the attached email from Jonathan after departure which ruined it. In our experience, bills for 'extras' are usually presented to guests on departure to settle. At no point did they ask/remind us verbally or by bill/note under the door. We hung back to say goodbye and again, (despite the fact we now know they were SILENTLY seething) no reminder when it should have been obvious that we were oblivious. Yes, we had asked about their confusing online fee structure re electric charging. The website said £15 with a drop-down for 1, 2…etc with no further details so we wondered is it £15 for our whole stay (which is acceptable) or £15 per day (which is overpriced) or is it £15 every time you plug in (which is outrageous). So, we asked. How does an innocent request for clarification determine you are a 'flight risk' or give them right to a ‘feeling' about settling the bill?! I would have been far more upset by this had I not witnessed Jonathan openly lose his temper over another poor guest innocently dropping the latch on the front door when we arrived. It makes me feel marginally better that we are not the only guests treated to the unpleasant side of Brewery House B&B. What an angry man. I was appalled by their email. Why not bother to nicely remind us even once whilst we were there – but then send a horrible email? They knew we were in the area and could very easily have PLEASANTLY phoned/emailed to ask us to pop back or settle via card. Not a problem. We stayed at Barholm Accommodation on our final night. They didn’t want any payment for electric vehicle charging. But we told them about our experience at Brewery House and gave them the £10 (for the circa £6 we allegedly ‘stole’ from Brewery House). They put it aside for their charity shop, which makes me happy. Definitely better places to stay in the area – my friends who live locally recommend The Crown Hotel, Conifer Lodges and Barholm.

Response from Nicole Jolly-Vanderheyden, Owner at Brewery House Bed & Breakfast
Responded 28 Oct 2021
Yes everything you say here ☝️ is 100% Zero class liers. If I had my car plugged in to a car charger at a another property for 36 hours I would not forget to pay. Totally dishonest people.

Nicole is an excellent, welcoming host. The breakfast (perfect eggs benedict) was excellent and the room comfortable, with all facilities and fresh milk available. An easy-going, friendly atmosphere, in the usual Belgian manner.

Stayed for a couple of nights, room was spacious, immaculately clean, breakfast was hot, filling and seen you through to dinner. Nicole is an excellent host and is on hand to deal with any questions you have. It's a small b&b but with very high spec. Will definitely visit here again.

We stayed last night in 2 rooms visiting my Nana’s extended family. Both rooms were immaculately clean, spacious, with lovely decor. The entire B&B has been decorated to an incredibly high standard. Excellent central location and wonderful service. Not only would we highly recommend this place, but we would return in a heartbeat if we’re luckily enough to return to Newton Stewart. Breakfast was delicious- lots of choice and exceptionally cooked. Props to the chef! Thank you so much Nicole for all your hard work. My Nana couldn’t stop telling her family about her lovely stay. Wishing you all the luck and success for the future. Until we meet again… Jordan, Stephen, and Nana Margaret x

An excellent B&B which many could learn from. Great welcome from Nicole to this beautifully converted brewery in the lovely Newton Stewart. We stayed in the Superior King Suite. Highest level of comfort, plenty of room with comfortable chairs. Lovely en suite. Fresh milk, specific to each room, provided in a small fridge in the hall, made such a difference. View over the River Cree was stunning. Breakfast is pre-ordered which I prefer. Proper porridge thank you. Lovely cooked breakfast but plenty of other choices. Nicole was interesting and interested about this lovely part of Scotland. The best of stays. In these strange times we also felt very safe. Well done. We hope to return before too long.

Wonderful hosts and a brilliant place to stay if walking the Southern Upland Way. Our hosts were so kind and picked us up after the stage to Brenganen and brought us back to a really lovely B&B. The room was great, the beds very comfortable and the decor was amazing with lots of original artwork. What sets this place apart though are the owners who could not be more helpful and really knew what weary walkers needed; for example as we walked in they had already reserved a table at a local restaurant for us just in case we needed a meal - which we did. To cap it all there was a fantastic breakfast and a lovely send off - highly recommended
