Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We loved our stay at the Douglas House in Castle Douglas. The room was beautiful and spotlessly clean, and Kate the owner was very friendly and made an effort to make us feel welcome. She went out her way to give us tips on things to do and where to go. Breakfast was so nice and varied, and yes Kate (I still have rubber scrambled eggs) and not your perfect ones hahaha. The room was lovely and had everything you'd need, even supplying oat milk and caramel wafers if you needed them, and a very good WiFi connection . Kate also allowed us to bring food into her establishment as long as you ate it in the dining room. We couldn't fault this bed and breakfast and we will be back. Thank you Kate for a wonderful stay. Good luck for the future and hope to see you next year, all the best love Mandy and Mike x

Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Douglas House B&B. Can’t find a single fault. The accommodation, breakfast and, most especially, owner Kate were all fantastic. Please don’t hesitate to consider Douglas House if you’re planning to spend some time in Castle Douglas.

On a motorbike tour of the area, I enjoyed two very comfortable nights at this wonderful B&B. Kate, the host, is very welcoming and helpful and she makes one of the best breakfasts I've ever had in a B&B. All ingredients are locally sourced - the salmon, haddock, haggis, sausage, eggs etc. I had a single room that was perfect. It was spotlessly clean. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

After a warm greeting from the helpful and thoughtful owner, the ensuite room was lovely. Comfy chair, kettle, tea and not just any coffee but Taylor’s as well as Nescafé, along with sachets of milk and oat milk. A sweetener dispenser for those of us trying to cut down on sugar. I appreciated the small details, the local Scottish soaps and Andrex! The bed was really comfortable and after a good sleep a fabulous breakfast with great choice of cereals and cooked food, done very well. What’s not to like? The owner seems to be giving at least what she would expect if she were the guest. To me, a great stay that exceeded expectations and they were good.

We arrived last one gloomy afternoon in late April, but the welcome was warm. The room offered a comfortable bed, good shower and a peaceful night. Breakfast, the next morning, was excellent. Castle Douglas is indeed a food town and Douglas House is centrally placed. Conveniently placed for visiting the gardens at Threave

A very welcoming stay at Douglas House. A wonderful find close to 5 of the 7 Stanes mountain bike centres - I had a great experience from phoning to book through to staying. Really good to have bikes accommodated as well as us. A warm (not overly hot) very clean room with huge ensuite and a lovely locally sourced breakfast. Good suggestions on where to eat out locally. Thanks.

A beautiful B/B in the small town of Castle Douglas. The room was immaculate, comfortable and a wonderful night sleep in the very comfy bed. Breakfast was large and very very tasty. Its close to the main street with all the cafes, pubs and shops and very easy to get out and about in the beautiful countryside. Highly recommended and ill definatly be back.

A very comfortable venue with a lovely welcome. Clean, well decorated and comfortable. And a great breakfast. Highly recommend. Also a great location to access to explore the rest of the town and surrounding area. Great selection of restaurants near by.

Stayed eight nights. Was in a wee single room; was offered a bigger one as soon as the other guests left, but the wee one suited me fine - nice bathroom, good heating, comfy bed. Lovely breakfast at a time amenable to the guests. Easy access; friendly and helpful owner. (There's a laundry place around the corner that I didn't need, but some might.)
