Even though the accommodation was as shown on the photos what you can not see is the level of refurbishment needed in the apartment. The rugs are well worn and even dirty and should have been thrown out a while ago. We thought as we were staying at the end of the season this would be the case however on... More

Just got back from a week's stay in the Carlingwalk Suite. It was clean, comfortable and well equipped. The owners were extremely helpful answering all our queries before we arrived. We had a lovely view across the fields and enjoyed doing the Threave Estate walk. There was plenty of information about local places of interest, and the area was lovely... More

After taking recommendations from The Top 100 Self Catering in Scotland and the two previous trip advisor reviews, we decided to book this property over the festive break! On arrival it was immediatley obvious that it did not meet the description. We arrived as requested after 4pm to a very dark access , apparently failed bulb , the property felt... More

I grew up in a local village in Galloway over thirty years ago, brought my children back to show them around and for a family holiday before they get to be jaded teenagers ! we stayed at The Old Exchange, which, although perhaps slightly small for four of us was more about us bringing too much fishing gear and general... This was our second visit to The Old Exchange and we had again booked one of the slightly smaller upstairs studios. However, on arrival we found a note offering us the choice of taking the larger Rockcliffe Studio downstairs, as it was vacant and, unusually, cooler - as the area was enjoying 25c + temperatures. The welcome pack was greatly... More

We stayed in the Threave Studio upstairs , small but ideal for two people , well equipped clean, good views and quiet . Despite it being close to the main road it feels secluded. Welcome pack generous . Only small gripe shower could be better. Loved the area around it, walks on the doorstep ,lots of interesting small villages to... More

Our favourite B & B in Castle Douglas was fully booked so they recommended this Self Catering accommodation in Castle Douglas as an alternative. I wouldn't normally go for self-catering but we had three nights on our way back from Ireland and had a truly wonderful time, only needing to prepare breakfast as we ate out in the evening. The... I travelled with my teenage daughter, and two elderly female relatives who would have had difficulty with lots of stairs so this ground floor flat was ideal as there were only 3 or 4 steps up into the main accommodation. The flat was quietly situated and surrounded by fields (although, as said in other reviews, it is just off a... More

We had the Carlingwark Suite and so were amply provided for with wardrobes and drawers! Lavish welcoming pack of rolls and fruit. A well-equipped kitchen and excellent living room accommodation. Single beds were very comfortable. We did not use the laundry room but it was excellent, fully equipped with no extra charge! Ground floor flat and so occasional noise from... More

I am a very fussy customer but I can honestly say I would recommend this place to anyone. The owner Charlie was absolutely lovely, the unit was just as the photos on the web. Situated just off the main road (but hardly any noise disturbance) so giving great access to all of the Galloway coast & the Galloway forest. This... More
