Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Wow! This is exactly what you hope for when you book a lochside cabin. The quality of finish was exceptional with attention to detail shown everywhere. The Egyptian cotton bedding was beautiful as was the super king size bed. They even supplied binoculars so that we could watch wildlife on the loch. The Nespresso machine was a lovely addition. Can't recommend highly enough. Thank you Alan and the team.

We had a one-night stay over in Ullapool due to the Stornoway - Ullapool ferry's late scheduled arrival. At the last minute, we booked a small, en-suite twin room with breakfast included. We arrived about 7 o'clock in the evening and we were greeted at reception by Alan, who is the owner. What a lovely bloke! As we were checking in Alan asked if we would like a dram of whisky or sherry whilst he went through the process, and offered us some shortbread too. Free whisky? For me, that is like asking if bears defecate in the woods! Alan could not have been more helpful, amiable and humourous about the room we had chosen. We got to the room and it was bloody immaculate! (It was on the small side, and we were made well aware of this when booking, and also checking in, but the space was really efficiently used. I've designed many buildings in my profession, and was suitably impressed with the en-suite - expertly compact!) The hotel has modern decor internally and is impressively clean. The exterior is of its time, architecturally speaking, which is the early 1970's but don't let that mislead you at all as to the presentation of the interior, which is wonderfully done. The beds were comfortable, the shower was hot, and the towels were fluffy! What more do you need? What stood out for me was the photographs on the corridor walls. These were exceptional and were good to see as they were local landscape shots and certainly gave the interior areas a more upmarket 'arty' feel. It surprises me why more hotels in areas such as this, with a natural splendour on their doorstep, don't use that to their advantage by hanging good landscape photographs as is done here. I'm unable to comment on the breakfast as we didn't partake of it. We had a 10-hour drive ahead of us, and the previous evening had enjoyed a rather large and filling curry from the local Indian - any more food and we would have exploded!! We departed quite early in order to make good progress on the journey home and left our room keys at reception. Would we stay here again? Absolutely yes! The place is spotlessly clean and comfortable, and Alan's natural wit, charm and general bonhomie make for a relaxed and enjoyable stay.

Stayed for one night on an NC500 tour. A beautiful hotel. The room and bathroom were well decorated, clean and cosy. A warm welcome - whiskey and shortbread a lovely touch. The breakfast was beautiful and the staff really lovely. The hotel’s location overlooking Loch Broom was superb. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

We read how nice this place and how friendly the staff were. We experienced the opposite. We had to go to front desk for a couple of things missing from our room - toilet paper and issue with plug ins. The guy came out almost aggressive, angry that i ‘rang the bell twice’. He immediately asked what I had done to make the plug in not work. He was defensive and accusatory. It was weird. Anyway - in addition to the lack of hospitality - the room was tiny and the carpet old and dirty. Would NOT recommend

Response from Alan MacLaurin, Owner at Harbour House
Responded 17 Oct 2023
I am sorry your experience was not as you read. What you read were reviews from guests that behave like guests! You used 2 toilet rolls in an afternoon and then said there was not enough supplied! You rang the bell 3 times in a row like there was some kind of panic. Yes, I was annoyed as ringing once is enough as I am sure anyone reading this will know from when people ring their door bell! You were quite rightly accused of plugging in some dodgy sleep equipment that fused the plug sockets in the whole building. The carpet is only two years old and not dirty.

Okay the 'small' doubles are small especially the bathroom but the Harbour House is truly fabulous. The welcome is warm and friendly, the location is superb and the rooms are clean and comfortable. Evening meals are not provided but there is a lovely large dining room. The breakfast is excellent, plenty of choice and high quality with Importantly free range eggs. We will return.

Lovely place, 5 min walk from village. Great customer service, lovely breakfast, and great lounge overlooking harbour where you can take food, drink your own drinks or generally chill. Doesn’t have a bar or do evening meals, but very informed recommendations for eating and drinking in Ullapool. Just a great place to stay.

Very comfortable, clean B&B, a short walk outside Ullapool. Warm welcome with a wee dram of whisky. Firm comfortable single beds (we booked a deluxe twin harbour view), with a huge walk-in shower and modern bathroom. Plenty of parking, and great views of the loch and ferry boats. Binoculars in the room was a nice touch. Good breakfast with friendly and efficient servers, with continental and cooked options. Perfect for a few days to explore the area, or as a stopover perhaps on the way to the Islands.
