Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had a 2 night stay at Horgabost. Had paid in advance and been told no CDP or EHU so knew what we needed to know in advance [There are CDP at Berneray ferry port if coming from the south and Tarbert if coming from the north].
As we had paid [£20 per night for motorhome] and been informed of our pitch number in advance we just turned up and pitched up .
Yes, the loos and showers are in shipping containers.... we also knew that so not a problem. We also knew the showers were payable and made sure we had £ coins for them.
The owners were helpful and the showers and toilets were cleaned regularly despite people not washing off the sand as requested. The facilities were also used by people visiting the beach and not staying so understand why there was a charge to use.
Basically, you are paying for the location and the views as well as parking on a campsite.
We enjoyed our time at Horgabost and would definitely stay again.

For tents you can camp anywhere on the hills right above the beach which gives you a fantastic view, can be a bit of a walk to the toilet facilities which unfortunately weren’t that great, but for the price (£15/night for 3) you can’t really complain, although we skipped using the shower there due to that. Only 2 toilet stalls (2 closed off due to covid) for the whole campsite which was rather little, but only ever had to queue for them in the morning when everyone wakes up at the same time. But location and view was fantastic, get out of the tent, 20 steps down the hill and you are on a nice stretch of beach. We even saw a little seal head out in the sea one evening!

Had a couple of nights in my tent while cycling the Hebrides. Easy to book in (phone call and a follow up text message with a link to payment portal). I don't need flash kitchen units and fancy showers or toilets on a campsite, so the basic standard at Horgabost doesn't bother me at all. For £10 a night I consider the setting well worth the cost. Beautiful location and definitely worth staying at again. Campsite set away from the road so not too noisy, although it is a popular venue so can be very noisy sometimes with other users or people on the beach.

Positives....stunning beachside location
Negatives...everything else

The island is littered with outstanding beaches and this field is adjacent to one of them. The pitches are fairly level and have a decent amount of space between them. Toilet and showers are housed in 3 rusty shipping containers and to be fair are kept clean. Prepare to share your shower changing space with others and prepare to pay a quid for each drizzle of hot water you require.

Drinking water supply doubles up as washing sand off your feet point, nowhere to chuck your wee if you have a portable loo.

New shower block apparently planned soon, if you do decide to visit I'd recommend you wait till its complete.

Don't waste your time with this campsite. Much better around.

The 'facilities' are an old rusty shipping container that looks like it was dumped there in the 80s and just left. 2 showers for about 150 tents/ campervans. Never seen a single person tend or clean them either - an unmanned site which I found weird with such large numbers.

Genuinely is a just a field that you pay money to camp in. You'd be much better and cheaper wild camping and the facilities are more or less the same 😅

We booked a campervan for the night (£21) - but got there to see signs on the toilets saying campervans should use their own facilities 😅. So not sure why we paid £21 to park in a field effectively? Still find it weird that there is no waste disposal or fresh water either for vans?

Genuinely just save your money and camp in a field or on the beach with public toilets somewhere (as long as you tidy up after yourself or course!)

Only good thing - the beach

We stayed for 3 nights in our camper in August. The beach and location is the only thing keeping this place going. We decided to eat local and use the van that we were told was open from 11am ntil 2pm then re-opens from 4 pmuntil 8pm, so we thought great we will just use this instead of cooking as we were on holiday, sadly the owners decided to change the times every day and didn't even open on the Wednesday night. They did put up in chalk closed Wednesday but as we where out exploring we didn't see this until it was too late and we had to drive back to the local shop which is about 25 minutes away. This was really bad as the owner Richard I believe should have told us this instead of telling us he was open at these set times everyday but instead they make up there own times. The next day it was open and we went down at around 6.40 and they had decided to shut at 7pm so I kindly asked can we order and the owner Richard replied we are just closing ? It was 6.40 ?. The facilities are beyond a joke absolutely disgusting my partner wouldn't even use the showers and he is not fussy 🤣 £20 a night and have to put £1 for a shower and one of the showers doesn't accept coins. I mean we aren't asking for anything fancy we usually wild camp but a little cleanliness and updating. Like I said the only reason this place is still open is due to the stunning location, such a shame as this site could be beautiful with just a little updating and some actual care put into the site, feels like it has just been left to be run down and gives me the impression the owners just don't care.

Disappointing wish we would of just wild camped but we wanted to give to local businesses and unfortunately it didn't work out, I know it has been hard on everyone in the past year but this place e has been run down for alot longer than that, a friend from Stornoway actually recommended this site and she was shocked about the van situation and how run down it was.

Such a shame.

We were grateful to book a pitch and were content that we got a bad one near the entrance given we booked late. However, at least half the other motorhome pitches were empty all night so I question why we got one of the worst spots. The facilities are not ideal, and clearly used by beach visitors for free as well as those paying £20 a night. At the wash up, we observed no social distancing and only us wearing a mask whilst squeezing in with folks hanging out in there charging their phones. The bins were also overflowing the whole time we were there. Sorry, it is a lovely location but needs some TLC and fairness.

We are used to really basic facilities but expect them to at least be clean and in working order. Only one of two showers worked in both male and female toilets, which are in small rusty shipping containers. Hot water worked in only one of four sinks for hand washing. Basic cleaning was not done but the cleaning schedule was ticked to say it had been. You need a £1 coin to use the shower. We chose to drive and use the facilities at the ferry port instead as they were at least clean! Not sure what we were paying £20 a night for, its outrageous. We would have been better off wild camping somewhere with a nicer view (than our pitch at least). So disappointing in such a beautiful place to visit. Don’t book here unless you have a self contained van or until they actually do some maintenance on their current facilities.

Location is fantastic but utterly ruined by the campsite facilities and quality. The facilities are in a run down and rusted shipping container. There idea of “cleaning” is a man coming in twice a day to mop the floors - I’m no clean freak but it is the dirtiest facilities I’ve ever seen. You pay to pitch on an uneven and hilly field and they have the cheek to charge you £1 for a shower which you will probably come out dirtier by using. What’s more annoying, is there is a field right on the beach for wild campers - better views and they stay for free when you pay! Not enough hot water to clean dishes, and no chemical waste disposal place on their site - you must drive to another location to empty. They have plans up for new facilities but no work has been started on this and going by the comments on the reviews they have been saying for a long time they are coming and still no progress.

Well this is my final night here solo with my two cockers and I will be sad to go and leave this unspoilt campsite with stunning views on a clear day.

The toilets and showers are in metal containers , yes rusty “on the outside” but that generally happens with bad weather!!!!.... But always kept clean. If you come in from the main gate and pitched there you would probably have about a 5 minute walk at most and enjoyable on a sunny day but if not I’m sure you’ll have your waterproofs that all us campers have for the great outdoors and those walks we love so much !

All staff/owners are so helpful and nothing is a bother for them. There is a great van that does hot bacon , burger , steak and onion sandwiches, cheesy chips , scampi , haddock , soup etc and open at lunch and evening for a few hours.

Fabulous location to see the stunning Outer Hebrides and its beaches.

Beaches I’d definitely recommend visiting; Seilebost, Luskentyre, Bosta , Uig , Valtos

Happy holidaying and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have and the wonderful people I’ve met on my adventure .... heaven on earth

All pictures are Horgabost beach ... enjoy
