Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you want any sleep, this is not the place for you. Remember when booking it is a pub and there is continuous noise from the bar area until at least 1.30am Friday and Saturday. Breakfast was delicious but disorganised...one member of staff trying to do everything ...staff were really nice. Its a case of you get what you pay for...we would not return

We stayed at the Red Lion in Cardigan for one night in July 2022. After shocking the punters in the bar wearing a motorcycle jacket and COVID mask, we were delighted to find ourselves in a large refurbished bedroom and bathroom. Very comfortable. I was worried about noise from the bar but we had a quiet night. We did have a misunderstanding about breakfast so we were unable to eat at the Red Lion. Please be sure you verify breakfast when you check in. Otherwise you will enjoy your lovely room and the chef was delightful.

This is a cosy little pub, the rooms are clean, comfy beds, tea coffee, great shower, lovely staff, breakfast was excellent, parking is tight the car park was full so I got permission from a local who owns the land by the pub to park there.
It is a proper local so expect the lads to be having a drink. Check the location before visiting as it’s tricky to find.

If you like a noisy pub with people swearing outside the window until the early hours, this is the place for you.
We booked interconnecting rooms, only to arrive and find the connecting room occupied
The pub won’t offer a refund ,so have been substantially overcharged.
No food available in evenings

I arrived ond was greeted with a young woman sho stated that my 75 pounds z night did not qualify me for a Breakfast. It then went fram bad to worse. I went to bed at 11:30 after which I heard half of west Wales screaming and shouting for another couple of hours. When the door shut it shook the room. When I briefly went out to get something to eat I came back and had this female following up the stairs to quiz me who I was and that I should have booked a spot. I tried to explain to her that I had booked a night here. She just gave some attitude and walked off. I have to say the attitude was awful, staying the night here is like staying a prison cell for the night but at least you dont get charged 75 pounds for doing so. Total rip off with no Brealfast included. No wonder people go abroad.

They have obviously spent money on a refurb upstairs, but a shame that some minor details weren’t followed through.

The bed was comfy, but none of the bed linen matched (not a huge issue, just strange), which gave the impression of a slap dash changeover. There wasn’t a mattress protector or undersheet, just a bedsheet, and the pattern of the mattress could even be seen through the sheet.

The bathroom was nice, and had a good shower, but the toilet definitely hadn’t been cleaned since the last occupants, neither had the hoover been wizzed round.

I asked when breakfast was served, and was asked when I’d like it. I asked for it at 7:30am but was told it would be closer to 8am, which was fine. However when I went downstairs just after 8, I was told it would be at least another 15 minutes before a cooked breakfast would be served. As I was in the area to work I had to leave or I would have been late, and grabbed a bite somewhere on the way. I could have been offered toast and coffee or something instead of a cooked breakfast, but this wasn’t offered. Another person staying there also left with no breakfast at the same time as I did.

All in all, it was a great location, but for me this was the only positive thing about my stay. Many reviews on the place are positive ones, but I’m afraid my experience was anything but… maybe it was just a bit of a blip…

I stayed at the red lion while away on business. The staff couldn’t have been better, rooms were lovely and the craic in the bar was great. We stayed in the bar all night watching the football and didn’t want to leave.

I stayed with my husband and from the moment we arrived until we left the staff was warm and welcoming. Clare was amazing and went out of her way to meet my dietary needs for breakfast. The rooms were cosy, very clean and just perfect. Although we stayed above a pub (room 3)there was very little noise and we slept soundly. Word of warning don't be put off by the outside as a lot of effort has gone in to making the inside lovely. The locals were also incredibly friendly. Well done as we would definitely stay again.

Stayed for two nights. The rooms were modern and spacious with excellent en-suite facilities. Tea and coffee facilities with a selection of biscuits. Very comfortable bed.
The breakfast was really tasty and prepared to perfection by our hostess Claire. In fact she merits special mention for her focus on customer satisfaction. She couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly. We are not big drinkers and didn’t use the bar downstairs but it appears a very friendly and sociable place. We were initially met by the barman who was more than accommodating as were any other staff we met so Claire seems to have built a good team around her.
Ten minutes into our departing journey I realised I lost my hat between the hotel and the bus stop. I called and Claire checked the room but could not find it. She later checked outside by the bus station and asked in the local cafe if it was handed in. She then telephoned about an hour later but it was gone. But her attention in the matter put her in a special category of above and beyond the call of duty.
I highly recommend the Red Lion and will look forward to visiting in the future.
