I appreciate that this hotel is going through renovations, but it categorically doesn’t warrant £130 a night. My daughter had booked this for me for a birthday get away and we both were left deeply disappointed.
There was a wardrobe with a questionable gap that I couldn’t walk straight through right by the fire exit, which wasn’t secured back and rocked when it was opened (major health and safety hazard). The shower head was held up by tape. No shower gel in the dispenser. Toilet seat was broken. The “bedside” table, draws broken. One towel per person. Parts of the decor and skirting missing. No hair dryer in the room and when we went to reception to ask for one it hadn’t been PAT tested since 2020. Bed with no headboard so you had to lean against dado rail is you wanted to sit up. The photos speak for themselves.
Breakfast, one of the staff were lovely, and the dining room was done up well, however on three different occasions I mentioned that I was dairy intolerant (upon booking, the guest registration and at check in) so when I asked for soy milk for my coffee to be told “we’ve ran out and haven’t got any” I was deeply disappointed. We also booked for breakfast at 08:30 (as had everyone else by the looks of it) and we were waiting 30 minutes for it. When it was brought out, again despite ordering the night before for vegetarian, two meat options were brought across was placed in front of me.
Upon checkout, a resolution was come to, however we were asked why didn’t we make them aware at the time of the issues. Twice on separate occasions we went down to reception with it being empty and used the reception phone (of the “unlikely event no one was there”) with no response. The third time when we finally got someone to answer and we asked for the hair dryer and more towels, the poor lady seemed to busy serving the restaurant/bar by herself to discuss the issues with.
We wished we could have checked out sooner but having already spent two hours getting here and no availability elsewhere we couldn’t, and couldn’t wait to leave the next day. I’d rather walk into a shabby reception and have the wow factor from the rooms, not the other way round. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone.

We stayed here for one night on our anniversary. On arrival we were told that booking.com had double booked our room and there were no other double sea view rooms available. Disappointed, we had to opt for a double at the back of the hotel with a not very nice view. However in the time it took us to make and drink a cup of tea they came and said they'd jiggled the bookings around and had found us a sea view room. I think they could see how disappointed we were and fair play they soon sorted it. The sea view was amazing, the room was warm, spacious and well equipped, the decor was fresh but a bit dated in style. There was a bar and eating area which we didn't use so I can't comment on. Dog friendly which is handy and the lady we dealt with on reception was very nice and friendly. We'd definitely stay here again but next time we'll book direct not with booking.com

We only stayed the one night as we travelled for a funeral. We got there for 9pm and the lady on the desk was lovely. We enquired what time the food was on till as on the website it stated it had a restaurant., only to be told they only did food Thursday through to Sunday so we knew we couldn’t have a breakfast either. We were given a key to room 2 and straight away on entering the room was freezing and the radiator was stone cold yet down stairs was all warm. After finding somewhere to get food we settled in for the night. The moment we sat on the bed we knew we were in for a sleepless night and we was not wrong. You could feel every spring in the mattress. It was a double bed but it had a single bed headboard so the pillows kept going down the back. On checking out in the morning I mentioned the awful nights sleep and was told oh yes we are in the process of changing the mattresses and headboards for this reason. Well if you know the beds are bad don’t put people in the room til they are done as people rely on a good nights sleep when they are facing a long day the next day. No offer of a refund or partial refund. So my advice is if they give you the key to room 2 check the mattress before accepting the room.

Dreadful place. Dull peeling paint in both bedroom and bathroom, stained bedding, next to empty soap/shower gel dispensers, no remote for the tv, no locks on the windows. Hot water took 8 minutes to arrive in the shower pipe over the bath. Came back to the bar after a meal out, had what we thought was a G&T. Couldn’t taste the gin, slightly carbonated water instead of tonic, absolute joke, well it would be if it were funny! Will NOT stay here again. God knows what breakfast will be like 😮

Rapidly went downhill Arrived at the hotel at 12 pm.. Was met by the receptionist who was polite and cheerful. She opened the bar, and we all had a lovely drink while admiring the beautiful sea view. The bar area had recently been refurbished in diesel blue with gold accents. The furnishings were modern and very comfortable. When 2pm came round we were given keys to our room.. This is where I began to question the £140.00 a night tariff. As you will see from the pictures, our room was reminiscent of 1970's Blackpool B&B.. Peeling paint on the furniture old mattresses and peach superfresco walls. No headboards, thin curtains, and an ensuite that had windows above that are guaranteed to wake up other occupants should you need to use the bathroom in the night. With a toiled that barely flushed. I was willing to overlook all of this because I could see the improvements were being made. The next day, I was rudely awoken by a dog constantly barking that had been left in the room.. That is not the hotel's fault, but my goodness, it was loud. Now for breakfast.. I can't eat anything with flour in it. Which rules out hash brown and bread. Unfortunately, beans, I don't like and the same for mushrooms. I asked for two bacon sausage and egg on the preorder form.. I was told I could only have one of each.. Please see the miserable offerings. I know if I'd have had the cheap fillers, it may have been enough. But I can honestly say I have never encountered this before. For the price of an extra slice of bacon, they have alienated a customer and a return visit. There is a sign on the door saying bar open till 1am it closes at 10.30pm. But ending on a high note. The staff were fantastic, particularly Missy. No, sorry, I could not recommend Sandbanks to a friend.

My friend had booked this hotel through booking.com, a twin room with sea views at £130 for 1 night. It's high season, but even so this isn't cheap so I'd expected somewhere comfortable, welcoming and attractive. Unfortunately, these expectations weren't lived up to. The hotel is shabby both outside and in. The staff do their best, but they were continually dealing with complaints and problems from guests, broken shower doors, poor water flow etc. Our room had a nice view, and the bed linen was clean, I'll give it that. However it needed redecorating, had damp patches on the walls. The kettle cord was quite short so had to be plugged in on the floor. There weren't many plugs anyway. No bedside tables, no bedside lamps, and very cheap, rickety furniture. The TV worked OK, with a variety of freetv + access to streaming services, which helped. Breakfast was OK, except the pre-ordering system failed to provide what we ordered, however rather than return our breakfasts (one without eggs and the other without sausages) we preferred to eat what they had brought us and leave. If you are thinking of staying here, my advice would be - find somewhere else, it's unlikely it will be worse value for money than here.

The hotel is tired and in need of modernisation, with its appearance not helped by the mismatched furniture and 1980s bathroom.
Sea view from the big bay window was beautiful, although the glass was covered with kids greasy handprints. Other than that it was relatively clean.
There was entertainment in the hotel bar if you go in for that sort of thing, the volume being such that you’ll hear it regardless. Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush was a bold choice for karaoke.
I didn’t feel it was worth £130 room only, but appreciate the need to make hay while the sun shines in order to fund investment to hopefully refurbish the rooms.

Absolutely horrendous hotel! Checked in and after 10 minutes of being in the room started the most awful sound it was so loud could feel the bed and floor shaking. Called reception who came to investigate, then called my Mobile 5 minutes later saying the manager had turned the radiators off as the awfully loud noise was the radiator bubbling?. Asked for sea view this was confirmed yet our room overlooked the back car park and was pretty grim. Come to shower my children in the evening to find there was absolutely no hot water from the shower at all. Having to wash sand off on freezing cold water is an absolute joke. I'm not a snob and after a long busy day we just wanted to sleep. Only for myself and 2 children to be rudely woken up by other guests sounding like a herd of elephants and having a party in the rooms next door. This went on for 2 hours before I contacted reception and asked them to knock and ask them to keep the noise down. This didn't work and noise continued for another hour. I have stayed in many hotels and this is by far the worst. Staff lack interest and not helpful in the slightest. At £95 a night for no hot water and no sleep! Would never ever stay here again even if the room was free.

We stayed for one night this month and could have happily stayed longer. The new owners are aware of the need to refurbish and we have to say their beginnings on the bar and dining room on the ground floor is excellent. They have a lot to do and we believe that is recognised and reflected in the price. We were warmly greeted upon arrival and our sea view room lived up to its promise. Yes, the room was tired, but it was clean. Spotless bedding and towels. Every member of staff with whom we interacted was polite, courteous and friendly. Only slight wrinkle was having to pre-order the breakfast the night before. The choice was limited. But that said the breakfast was splendid. We both thoroughly enjoyed our Full Welsh Breakfasts along with piping hot tea and splendid coffee. Plenty of juice and toast was available and was constantly being refreshed. The service at breakfast was excellent despite it being very busy and we compliment the chef on a piping hot meal that not only set us up for our journey but surpassed the quality of many more expensive City Break Hotels. Would we stay again ....... YES we would.

I have just returned from a 2 night weekend stay at The Sandbanks with my family to celebrate my nieces 16th birthday. We arrived on Saturday to be welcomed by reception staff who were very pleasant and helpful. 2 of the 7 rooms booked were not ready due to a staff member getting hurt whilst cleaning. We totally understood and were happy to wait. Rooms were spacious and clean. Yes there is room for improvement as the hotel is undergoing refurbishment but this did not affect our stay. Staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and even opened up the restaurant area to us on Sunday evening so that we could celebrate my nieces birthday in private. This was so kind of them. Breakfast was lovely with vegetarian option. Evening meal that was prepared for us was delicious. Chef took care of everything. Would definitely visit again with my family. Thank you for making our stay so special.
